I'm not sure where to put this, so I'm asking in /wsr/.
I want to become a Japanese translator. English to Japanese, Japanese to English. I know there are a few dialects to know and things, but, my biggest problem is, I'm completely self taught, so far. I can read Hiragana, working on Katakana, them I'll move onto Kanji. I can hear Japanese kind of well, but sometimes I can't understand some Japanese even though I know the words they speak. Like sometimes some foreigners can't understand southern American vs West Coast American or New York, etc. Accents.
Is there a school I can go to for practice and certification? Is there a way to promote myself specifically for this kind of thing? I plan on doing a few work related homestays to practice my Japanese and become more accustomed. I want to stay at least a year at a time in different parts of Japan to practice accents.
Does anyone recommend something else?

Get your JLPT N1; this is an entry requirement for any kind of translator qualification.

Wasn't even aware of the JLPT test. Thanks for that.

Also you won't be translating English to Japanese, unless you're working as an interpreter. Translating the wrong way is called a "service translation" and is not done outside of fansubbing.
If you're serious about translation, you also need to work on your English. You need to be good enough that you could write a book in whatever field it is you'll be translating. If you're planning on translating for business, you need to be at least as good as their technical writers; if you're planning on translating fiction, you need to be able to write fiction. It's commonly thought that translators don't have to do anything creative because the work is already there; this couldn't be further from the truth. If a work could be mechanically translated from one language to another with no need for intellect or creativity, then Google would already be doing it and every translator would be unemployed.
I put the question on the left, and my response on the right. Please let me know if I made any mistakes - the assignment is to use the preterite/imperfect tense properly and conjugate correctly. I may have used the wrong tense, or conjugated improperly in some responses... This assignment is really tough for a gringo. Please take a careful look if you may, I really need to pass this class!
Muchas gracias!
Will bump with some culture in the meantime.
Please, does anyone speak Spanish?

I'm looking for some inspiration for a story idea I have in mind. So re there any stories out there where a kind or a young adult gets a toy or an item that looks normal at first glance, but then turns out to be magical or special and gives the kid or adult powers or magic which he either uses for good or for things like mischief.

Yeah it's the plot to like 80% of direct to DVD bargain bin movies.
Consider suicide.
>>294092
I know its not that original, I was just curious to see what kind of stories have already been told with this idea.
I watch a lot of movies and I would love to know more about filmmaking, what are some of the best resources (books, educational videos, sites, online communities....) to gradually learn all the jargon and techniques? Maybe even become an amateur director?

what do you mean?
I want to get in Umineko. What's a good starting point?
>>293927
Higurashi->Umineko VNs.
>>293938
Higurashi's anime then the Umineko VNs? Sorry if dumb
>>294106
Preferably both in VN form.
Higurashi anime is decent as its own standalone thing (inb4 >implying), but cuts out major stuff that appear in the VN.
Umineko anime is absolute shit however you look at it.
A few weeks ago my wife found a BLU studio C super camera phone in a parking lot. After quite a few failed attempts to return it, we gave up and it has been sitting in a drawer ever since.
It's a cheap piece of crap, but we figure it can still be used as a dedicated mp3 player/camera.
Is there any way to bypass the factory reset protection without bricking the phone?

Give it back, Tyrone.

What are some good violent manga with plot? I liked Parasyte but in other manga I get bored by nudity and pandering. Example: Battle Royale was annoying because of the monologues. Which manga have violence and strategy but less shock value and long, angry rationalizations?
>>293905
The tokyo ghoul manga is nice. Disregard the anime.
>>293911
I read it but I think I have different preferences. I prefer things that have fewer intense facial expressions and gratuitous pain.
