Windows comes up in a firewalled pre-boot-security-update mode on first boot, and downloads the security updates it needs before booting the full OS.

It's done this since the infamous XP Service Pack 2.

Just install the latest service pack edition*, and you'll be fine.


* not because you have to for security reasons, but because if you don't you'll just have to download and install it anyway.

thanks for the reply. But does this still apply for a new PC that comes with win 10 pre-installed? Technically that wouldn't be the first boot then. Or does an unpatched windows 10 version always stay in that mode until you have the security updates installed?

You can't solve for two variables with just one equation.

1. 8 is the same as 2^3, so following rules of exponentials 8^x would equal 2^(3x)
2. Rearrange the eqn given in terms of y, i.e y=3x-12
3. Substitute this answer in place of y in the second equation, as everything is now in terms of x the eqn is now solveable. 2^(3x) / 2(3x-12) is the current form.
4. Use the rules of exponentials again, that 2^(a+b) = (2^a)*(2^b)
5. So now it's 2^(3x) / (2^(3x)*2^(-12)) and if you write it out you'll see that the 2^(3x)'s on the top and bottom will cancel
6. This leaves you with 1/(2^(-12)) which of course is identical to 2^12

If it's the latter, just put in a fuckload of CAT6/CAT6e, and at the patch panel join the pin4s and pin5s on all the outlets you want to be able to plug a phone into.

You can plug a phone plug straight into an RJ45 socket, so there's no point in having phone sockets.

If it's the former, hit up eBay, craigslist or gumtree for a preowned Meridian system, and put the server in the rack with your patch panel. Meridian uses RJ45, so again flexibility.
