Actually no, that was about as automated as you can get it. For things that need such tight tolerances everything has to be hand tuned to make sure it doesn't have too much (or too little) friction. Carving the bezels could have been done with CNC I'm sure, but I get the feeling that's a trademark thing. There's still a lot of dremel grinding and hand filing / polishing in a modern machine shop. Kinda amazed there wasn't any EDM in that really, that's how we'd get really fine features into mold parts and such.
