There are very few male characters and each season is more or less focused on a female character.

The show is not about the female characters wanting his dick, the show is completely based around character development, photography (in the cinematographic sense) and at times teenage subjects.

Not teenage subjects such as "Kyaa senpai doesnt notice me" but subjects such as insecurity, domestic violence or sentimental relationships.

Then besides that it has occasional moments of fanservice and plenty of plays on words.

I actually can't understand how anyone can downplay monogatari as "harem" while posting symphogear when the second is way, way more generic than the first.

there were plenty of episodes that made me both love and hate teh show, this one in particular as well as the one where Dandy casually genocides a whole planet of life, with at lest what was it, 12 separate sentient civilizations on it? All in chase of few space dollars for a beer
it ruins Dandy as a character, since as much of a clown he is, he is generally good hearted

overall the show is a perfect definition of the word mediocrity, an amazing visual treat that falls flat on its face to be anything other than a collection of random comedic short-stories straight of family guy that usually contradict each other, retcon everything all the time, and create an incoherent mess as a whole

From the last generation or so of Western cartoons (which I guess that show would belong to)the creators were often people who had been raised in sort of nerd culture themselves, or got into the field because they were enthusiasts for animation in general, unlike previous generations which had more of a general Commercial Art origin. And so they would throw the occasional joke or reference out there.

It's also more or less a tradition dating back to the old Warner Brothers cartoons where they would occasionally throw out a joke or reference that only an older audience would get, for the sake of the babysitter or parent who got roped into watching the kid watching their cartoons.
