It's not anamorphic. Anamorphic refers to a differing scale between horizontal and vertical. Such as the common DVD resolution 720x480 which, despite being 3:2, is displayed in 4:3 or 16:9.

What hes talking about is the film cameras, and hes right, except for the anamorphic _lens_ thats used to squash a wider picture into 35mm, then it gets corrected as its projected using the reverse anamorphic lens in the cinema.

All of this is entirely pointless in anime movies, as was my original point. Not a single traditional camera is used, they can set any canvas size they like and they chose to target a film audience when home viewers with 16:9 screens are surely the larger market.

I've used editing software before, and the only way i know of to put black bars on everything is to fuck with the aspect ratio whilst not knowing what the fuck you're doing.
Who edited that clip, where did they put it and why the fuck did someone save it, then go further and use it as the source material for a .webm?

Were they the same person?
Did multiple people put it through a fucking over time?
Was it an anon, or did the anon who posted it get it from tumblr or some shit?

If you're that curious, I fullscreen the show on my widescreen monitor. Since it's 4:3, there's already a bunch of black space on the sides. The bevel on my monitor can easily make a black border less obvious.

I didn't notice it on the playback tests of my WebM's because of the video player I guess, though I normally only check syncing and the beginning and ending crop.

I'm not going to go through the effort to remake them now as I don't think the gain is worth the time, though I acknowledge that it's unfortunate.
