>>1875272
OP here. I took something like 6 months to reach where I am right now. Of course, no "proper baby sitting" but I received a lot of help from people, specially in the threads and other common sense trip fags and known ricers (Shiro, Noha, hal).
You won't get something perfect just for reading a guideline, when it comes to actually ricing something you have to go all by yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions you don't seem to get an answer for in the threads or other sources of help (like IRC), but most of the time you'll have to search for documentation on the subject yourself. Nanami is a starting point, it's a source for ricing, not exactly a guide to perfect rice itself, but it's immeasurably helpful.
My desktop consists of the following:
- Blackbox (the bbZero fork, available in the blackbox4windows official forums)
- Cygwin, Unix environment on Windows
- ~50 lines of Moonscript by hal for the now playing widget
Besides general ricing like a custom VS, Firefox CSS and homepage which are not shown in the actual shot.
I can share config files on request, but it's expected that you're actually a little bit familiar with those environments for you to set them up, otherwise I could walk you through if you really want it.
>>1875251

>>1875319
It doesn't really make any difference, anon. Any random post that would just be used to fill in the last 3 posts to reach the bump limit could be posted in this thread, and it was close to the bump limit, anyway.
Waiting for bump limit isn't really mandatory for creating a new thread.
>>1875396
Of course it isn't madatory but it's better
This isn't /vg/ where people compete to create a thread first.
It usually takes hours for the next thread to come in and nobody cares who creates it. Waiting a bit won't hurt you.

With such a small screen size, wouldn't you want to have less on the screen? Otherwise it just looks cluttered, imo.
>>1875810
I'm sure if you're used to enormous amounts of blank space and prefer minimalism, then perhaps.
I don't like having all of my things in one little corner, extremely tiny, and with nothing else but blank space.
for me, i like that everything has a purpose and is easily accessible.
i'm working on a laptop so i really cannot make things smaller because they would simply be unreadable.
for example, the icons up top are no bigger than about 3/4 cm ^2
my programs fit inside like so ...
i am honestly unsure how i can incorporate minimalistic design with such a small screen. i need to be able to actually access things easily.
>>1875791
While it is usual that the same person post his/her desktop in multiple threads, these threads tends to attract certain kind of desktops. It's common to see anime in a /w/ desktop thread since that's what the board is about, but it's not mandatory to post anime desktop here even though some people might brag about it. /wg/ is usually where the newbies are and it's common to see a lot of Linux desktops on /g/.

Yea, its unfortunate. But it has to be twice as huge as other similar scripts in order to make each pixel the correct color. Each █, ▄ and ▀ character is actually two pixels one on top of the other, so you can't color one of them in one color and the other another color. In this case each pixel is actually 4 pixels, that is, two characters side by side: ██

Maybe when it first came out you couldn't, but that's changed since then. Go search deviantart for Windows 10 visual styles.

You guys I have run into a problem. I used to rice VERY LITTLE and I forgot how to change system icons. Do I have to have an icon pack file, or can I just have a folder with a bunch of .ico files? Read nanami and that didn't seem to answer my question. I know I had one before where I could just add a folder with a shitload of .ico files in there, but I have no idea how I did it. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW I'm running Winblows 10.

There are stand-alone installers for icons where people can bundle icons into an installer and let 'er rip. Look for iPack.
