You have a consistent colorscheme going on, nice Suzuha pick, but everybody knows that she's far from being the best character.
If you want to strive for minimalism, you could blank out the icons
Disabling blur will sharpen the corners. Getting a transparent border with a perfect shadow like that is nearly impossible due to the way aero blur rounds corners.
you did a great job though, lithium did it well too.
It's incredibly easy with the guide, took me like a day or two.
But if you're messing with transparent or curved borders that will take forever.
Forgot my desktop lol
WIP of my first rice. It's not much, but I'm pretty new to linux so even this much feels like a huge accomplishment.
no face, stylize the eyes and it won't look bad anymore
transparent borders were never cool
different fonts and colours
You should debloat that 4chan css, make it more minimal. Also fix the replies width, and get a Firefox CSS, and your term transparency isn't looking quite well.
Yep, you should also keep in mind that small fonts on lower res doesn't look quite good.
Yeah, she should have a face.
Yeah, they're so 2009.
Those black borders should go to hell.
I'll try that, but I kind of like the blur. It seems like one of the draws of transparent borders.
I'm not really starting from scratch, but maybe I should. Not all of the elements carry over to Windows 8 from the 7 guide (though it seems most of it does).
Basically summer 2013.
>Mono has a white setup
It's still weird
I realize this is kind of a big request but can someone give a complete walkthrough to achieving something like OP has (i.e. a concrete example, not just a general guide)? I have basic linux knowledge and have tried but never managed to get anything proper looking.
just look through the configs for those programs and change stuff until it looks good
you really don't need a guide for linux ricing, it's all plaintext configs that are usually well commented
I really want to find a new foobar rice
Probably should find different fonts for my foobar/browser
OP here. I took something like 6 months to reach where I am right now. Of course, no "proper baby sitting" but I received a lot of help from people, specially in the threads and other common sense trip fags and known ricers (Shiro, Noha, hal).
You won't get something perfect just for reading a guideline, when it comes to actually ricing something you have to go all by yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions you don't seem to get an answer for in the threads or other sources of help (like IRC), but most of the time you'll have to search for documentation on the subject yourself. Nanami is a starting point, it's a source for ricing, not exactly a guide to perfect rice itself, but it's immeasurably helpful.
My desktop consists of the following:
- Blackbox (the bbZero fork, available in the blackbox4windows official forums)
- Cygwin, Unix environment on Windows
- ~50 lines of Moonscript by hal for the now playing widget
Besides general ricing like a custom VS, Firefox CSS and homepage which are not shown in the actual shot.
I can share config files on request, but it's expected that you're actually a little bit familiar with those environments for you to set them up, otherwise I could walk you through if you really want it.
It doesn't really make any difference, anon. Any random post that would just be used to fill in the last 3 posts to reach the bump limit could be posted in this thread, and it was close to the bump limit, anyway.
Waiting for bump limit isn't really mandatory for creating a new thread.
Of course it isn't madatory but it's better
This isn't /vg/ where people compete to create a thread first.
It usually takes hours for the next thread to come in and nobody cares who creates it. Waiting a bit won't hurt you.
I'm not really sure what the conditions are to post in this thread...
so I'll just post mine and hope I don't get bitched at.
I literally have only learned how to rice with rainmeter as I'm new, but I'm going to try more stuff soon.
I'm sure if you're used to enormous amounts of blank space and prefer minimalism, then perhaps.
I don't like having all of my things in one little corner, extremely tiny, and with nothing else but blank space.
for me, i like that everything has a purpose and is easily accessible.
i'm working on a laptop so i really cannot make things smaller because they would simply be unreadable.
for example, the icons up top are no bigger than about 3/4 cm ^2
my programs fit inside like so ...
i am honestly unsure how i can incorporate minimalistic design with such a small screen. i need to be able to actually access things easily.
While it is usual that the same person post his/her desktop in multiple threads, these threads tends to attract certain kind of desktops. It's common to see anime in a /w/ desktop thread since that's what the board is about, but it's not mandatory to post anime desktop here even though some people might brag about it. /wg/ is usually where the newbies are and it's common to see a lot of Linux desktops on /g/.
That might be the case, I've also gotten used to not having everything immediately desktop accessible because I have other means of accessing them, ie. key commands.
Each to their own, though.
I realized that a lot of what was on the sidebar was just taking up space. what's important were the audio controls and my apps.
I think this looks much better now. thanks for your input.
i'm on the lookout for weather apps now
here ya go
I'm a fucking scrub. Can someone straight up explain to me how people do all these insane customizations? I'm running Ubuntu, I'm not sure if it's a Linux thing (the customization) or a Windows thing. Any help would be appreciated.
What is everyone using for a terminal now?
I've been using urxvt, but it feels a bit dated sometimes.
Hey friends; need help.
Wondering if anyone could tell me why I'm unable to change the background color of the thread boxes in the catalog? I have no problem changing text color or adding borders etc, and I only get this problem when editing the catalog.
Set the bg for .catalog-stats .subject and .comment separately.
Hey, where are you setting this file? Is this a custom made website/hot like file or are you messing with the cuss of this sit? I know code, but I'm not sure how to implement for personal use
Photoshop detected in the Graphics tools.
I have some questions about that:
1) Are you running Photoshop with Wine or is there another way?
2) How is the performance?
3) What version are you using?
My first ubuntu rice! im running the gnome shell any cool music players or themes?
How do you guys place firefox tabs in the same height of the adress bar?
I tried using "Mozilla Labs: Prospector - OneLiner" extension, but it fucks up the back and foward arrow
only small changes made since my last post, but I don't care and sharing is fun
Just a bunch of flat icons I found on the net, some are from the same pack tho, you can try iconfinder if you're looking for them
oh wow these threads are way better than the ones on /g/
I'm not sure what you mean, but I am happy to help
Anyone ever make a version of ahoviewer for Windows? I've been holding out hope for a while now that I wouldn't have to install a meme OS just to use it, but I'm damn tempted.
>tfw you can't use all 3 monitors on Linux because it doesn't have proper USB 3.0 support.
I wish my eyes wouldn't be so sensitive to light so they wouldn't be raped everytime i look at something bright.
I hate looking at other people's phones because of this. And here at some of your desktops.
shit son that script is huge on standard resolutions.
...make a tiny version?
Yea, its unfortunate. But it has to be twice as huge as other similar scripts in order to make each pixel the correct color. Each █, ▄ and ▀ character is actually two pixels one on top of the other, so you can't color one of them in one color and the other another color. In this case each pixel is actually 4 pixels, that is, two characters side by side: ██
I made a bunch of color scripts yesterday though, so see if there are any you like.
Some time ago mods decided that t.b.h, f.a.m, and s.m.h were being used to much and they're not all filtered.
t b h = desu
f a m = senpai
s m h = baka
Who is this guy and why does he always make the new threads?
I've been absent from these threads for the last few months, I assume you must've started coming here when I was gone
This thread seems even more ded than it usually is.
But yeah I'm trying something different.
Images on the right looks great
Tabs not going to the right looks awful to use
If you are going brown use it as a ''mold breaker'' for a lively color, pastel combined with pastel and pastel doesn't look good. I don't know how to explain it.
You wall is awful.
If it's possible you should center the website domain to match the 4chan css.
Thanks for trying something diferent!
More coffee and cream, less caramel.
>Tabs not going to the right looks awful to use
Wat, are you trying to say the tabs aren't stretching across and that's bad?
>pastel combined with pastel and pastel doesn't look good
>You wall is awful.
Highly disagree, but thanks for saying more than just 'it's bad'.
Those colors are nice, I don't want it to be that subtle though, I'm aiming for obvious pastel camel colors.
You going to apply rounded corners to the windows, calendar, and album art?
> I'm aiming for obvious pastel camel colors.
then you need to go lighter
To your question from /wg/, 4chan X is centering them, I highly recommend using it, especially if you want to play with CSS for 4chan.
Nevermind definitely not camel, but I did go lighter and I think I've pretty much found the color I want.
They're opened pinned tabs anon, because I'm currently using them.
>random floating pics bar
That's the window top border.
>They're opened pinned tabs anon, because I'm currently using them.
That makes sense then. Still not my cup of tea though, but again that's just me.
>That's the window top border.
You have no idea how much time i waste trying to figure out what those names correspond to when editing a CSS.
I'm assuming that's a custom Visual Style.
Mind if I ask how do you make those?
I want to make my own VS but I'm not sure where to start, and nanami-tan only has info about a very outdated Visual Style Builder.
>a very outdated Visual Style Builder
Nope that's what you need to use, if you're on 7 there's a pirated official release that will work, but if you're on 8 or 10 you need the beta release which you can get from http://vistastylebuilder.com/forum/index.php?topic=2130.0 once you buy it.
tfw it's been almost a year and I'm still the best rice here
I figured you would've grown out of doing this stuff, watermelon boy
You guys I have run into a problem. I used to rice VERY LITTLE and I forgot how to change system icons. Do I have to have an icon pack file, or can I just have a folder with a bunch of .ico files? Read nanami and that didn't seem to answer my question. I know I had one before where I could just add a folder with a shitload of .ico files in there, but I have no idea how I did it. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW I'm running Winblows 10.
Lmao I just noticed we have the same wallpaper thing. I made a 32 pixel one with inspiration from this image
