Minimalist Wallpapers!
>What is minimalism?
Minimalism involves taking images and reducing them down to basic colors and removing most features. Most wallpapers will not include shadowing or faces, but this is subjective.
>Guide to Making Your Own
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Vector-Wallpaper-Tutorial-399883993
>Software
Use either Illustrator or Inkscape (both are free if you know what I mean).
>Requesters
1) Do not post images with incredibly intricate designs, vague or conflicting colors, or undefined edges, these make minimalizing very difficult.
2) Be sure to thank the artist!
>Artists
1) Always upload as at least 1080p PNGs, try and post transparents too.
2) Look over other people's works! We need good criticism if we want to improve!
3) Watermarks/signatures are not highly necessary.
Old thread: >>1836058
Requested Cirno last thread, and am re-requesting. An anon started it, but never quite got finished. It has good potential, and I would enjoy seeing the finished product. Pic related is the last transparent he posted.
Here is the updated archive:
https://mega.nz/#!61x21AwJ!7sVpA1SWGHQVLYgbtK0BDx35W4a6khuTl8Xk7miS-Kc
The archive had a huge boost due to repositories of svg's that kind anons have posted! This brings, with contributions from the last thread, to an additional 58 high resolution transparents. The total number in the archive is now 195.
I'd like to remind everyone that to help this archive grow, it is important to post the high resolution transparents of the fulfilled request. This helps prevent future headache in IMT and these threads of anons asking for already posted wallpapers in different resolutions, and serves as an easy repository for anons to study and learn from.
Thank you!
re-requesting >>1854480 if anyone has the time.

This is cute! I like this style.
>>1862266
>>1862267
>>1862268
I beg to differ.
The way the shapes are drawn are very messy and inconsistent. There are too many nodes causing lumps in areas that should be very smooth. The way the shadows and highlights are placed on top of the other shapes creates very blocky and patchy shapes, with tons of color peeking. The lack of detail with the eyes creates a very poor looking face that would either be better suited without them, or with full detailed ones. If you are the original owner of these vectors, I highly suggest you look at the tutorial in the OP and try again using less nodes, and the Shape Builder tool in order to improve.
>>1862292
I think the blocky inconsistent shapes are intentional and part of the "style." It doesn't quite fit into the standard minimalist style, but personally I really enjoy it. It's almost mosaic.
If the anon that made those is still around, or could direct me to more of their works, I'd very much appreciate it.
>>1862293
That's certainly a possibility, but very unlikely. These are common issues with first timers who don't know how to layer shapes properly, or use the pen tool. I highly doubt he did it as a style on purpose.
>>1862296
While you guys talk about all that, I think
Do I like the picture?
>Yes. Save.
>No. Scroll.
>>1862303
Well, no. Neither of us are hating on it or overly praising. One is critiquing some flaws in the work, and the other is trying to defend those flaws as stylistic choices. The nature of these threads is not only to create minimalist works, but to criticize and grow the talents of those who make these. And a healthy debate is part of that.
>>1862309
I'm the guy who posted the vectors and I like the criticism and I'm going to use more tools.
If you guys want some of my edits I'll post a screen shot of the folder.
>>1862359
You definitely don't want to use that many layers. This is the reason for the many color peeking and poor matching areas. Think of an image as being composed of three things: Base Colors, Shadows, and Highlights. Draw the entire object (hair, clothing, skin, etc.) as the base color first. Then, add any shadows in that area on top of the base color, using Smart Guides or the Shape Builder tool to help get it exactly where it should be. If there are any highlights, then add that on top.
If you keep it simple, it will save you headaches in the long run.
>>1862365
Thanks, I never thought 4chan is somewhere I'd ever get constructive criticism.
>>1862368
That's part of what these threads are for. /w/ and smaller boards in general aren't the typical /b/ shitheads that everyone seems to associate 4chan with. Constructive criticism is encouraged, and it will only make these threads get better and better each time.
>>1862359
Can you post the high-res transparents if you have them? I got the nano one, but if you have any more it would be much appreciated for the archive.

Who is this fluid druid?
I spent the past hour browsing 62 pages on animecharacterdatabase, reverse image searched everywhere, and nothing would turn up.

imo that character picture in the link should have been the request. It seems like it'd work a lot better, or at least I think so.

Terrible
>>1862730
>>1862817
Alright, you definitely shouldn't have worked on an image like this. This is very messily painted, requiring a lot of improvisation, especially in the hair.
For starters, you CAN NOT be lazy with hair. All hair must have sharp V shape endpoints that flow in certain directions. You have basically none of these shapes, and have removed many of the hair details that fade at the tips. This creates a very poor set of hair, and gives little emotion to the character. You also neglected to add the ears. The second issue with this image is that there is a lot of internal highlighting within the hair that you have to improvise. If you just do the base color of the hair as is, the image losses a lot of detail. You have to look at the original and play with it until you create something that you're comfortable with.
There is of course other issues, such as color peeking around the hands. You also colored the front of the hand a different color than the arm, even though it is all skin coloring. You also didn't color the other hand as the skin color, and instead melded it with the dress. The design in the middle of the dress is completely off-centered, and is not accurate to the original. The black part of the dress should be the same color all around the image. The colors in general need to be adjusted, given it lacks saturation.
Honestly, this image is much too difficult for you to do at this time. Stick to easy anime screenshots, preferably those focusing on the face and hair. Once you do a good 4-5 of those, then you can move on to more complex fanart images.
>>1862717
You're right, it looks fitting. I might aswell go for it:
Requesting this one done in the traditional minimal way, in a transparency.
Thanks in advance.

Stuff like minimalist stuff like this?
>>1863063
Shoot, I'm tired. Stick to making minimalist edits these pics?
>>1862594
I save all the original pics from wallpapers I make, and I name the files as the show they're from. Unfortunately, this is the only wallpaper out of 96 named "unknown."
>>1863078
I see you had found the source after scrolling down, so I guess the original won't help now.
oh well.
>>1862995
>>1863083
You got tons of color peeking. Always put a bright color background to look for errors like that. Use layers to your advantage. Move certain objects under others instead of trying to align them exactly, or else color peeking will be inevitable. The watch should be connected completely, and use the circle tool instead of making the circle by hand. The finger should be behind the sword. You're missing hair past the ribbon. You're also missing the other ribbon to the right. The hair to the left of her face should be above the face and shirt fills. The laces on the feet are incredibly messy. Draw each loop and lace as separate shapes that overlap each other. This way you can smooth out the separate shapes and have them overlap properly.
You should also create the inner shapes of the sword, like on >>1862594, as it will make it look better.
Ok, almost done but, this is near complete product and result of the advice given.

thanks guys, here's v2
>>1863267
>>1863269
You still are using too many nodes and your highlights and shadows do not line up properly with the base color, creating overlapping and color peeking. You need to reduce nodes and read the OP and learn how to use the Shape Builder tool if you wish to ever get the hang of this.
Download the file of this image that I did to help understand how to make nodes and handles: https://mega.nz/#!h9IhxDQD!BS97X7YNmYO1SjzQ24IzxncMUwRny9qouGX6cvLHQgg. Again, really read the OP and figure out the Shape Builder tool.
neat
>>1863274
You fixed many issues, but you still have numerous areas of color peeking. Be more thorough when looking for these errors and again, hide large chunks of shapes under others to avoid this issue entirely. Check out the file here >>1863401 to see what I mean. You have other areas such as the ribbon on the left, the arm on the left, and the sword under her armpit not properly snapped to an object. If you're using Illustrator, use Smart Guides to make it easy to snap to it. Otherwise, zoom in more and make sure the two properly overlap. Like I mentioned before, do the interior sword design shown in the original and in the other vector. The sword is dull without it.
>>1863401
Listen, I'm getting the hang of this, I know this isn't perfect but, I'm improving and they're drafts not final products anyways, I took the advice still. (the tutorial is great but, I have unlearn 10 months or so with no real criticism also, not doing her ahoge out of principle if, it was in it's entirety sure).
>>1863407
OP here, color peeking's a pretty simply issue to fix, just draw borders once by overlapping the first part under the next. The color of the next will overlap the other, making for just one border.
Would this one be possible for someone to do pretty please.
Possibly with a black background?

I love this one. Anyone have anything similar? I rarely see minimalist wallpapers with colors fading in the background and particles around the character, or just general particles.
Can anyone make this image larger? Meaning, more of the background.

>>1865875
I highly consider you read the tutorial in the OP. Nothing about this looks right.
Can some one tell me if this looks good?
>>1865875
What software did you use? Looks like you just filled in on the existing picture, I think I can still see the original edges.
>>1865911
Lines aren't very straight, color gaps and border crossings everywhere and that background color is horrendous. Can you post the original? What are you trying to go for?
>>1865914
First try at doing this thing.
IDK WTF I'm doing.
>>1865917
Okay I think I see what's going on. First off, the quality of the picture is trash, honestly I would use another one. Bad pictures make for vague and confusing lines.
Also you're trying to do the shading in Shiro's hair, which is complicated enough but this pic is horrendous and it's your first time. My advice is to just use the gradient tool on the entirety of her hair instead of trying to replicate individual shades (this may deviate from the original but your job is to make it look good).
It seems you're doing things out of order when it comes to tracing. Illustrator functions off of the most recent shape, where your most recent shape will take layer priority over those made earlier. Thus, when it comes to any section where the borders of colors clash, you only need to draw one border instead of two. This eliminates color gaps and incongruities you'll find in yours. Note my picture, I drew this in an order from bottom to top. Analyze your picture and figure out what to do first.
Lastly, use less nodes and more curves, i.e. use more curves instead of corners, even if the picture looks like it should end in a point. It may have looked fine in the picture but it will look jagged and unnatural in minimalism. Try to curve them out.
Just an opinion, but eyes suck. Don't do them. These up-close face shots never work for minimalist style.
>>1865933
I think I'll just leave this to the experts.
>>1865937
Don't give up so easily. It takes time but once you get it down it's very easy. At least give it a shot, the picture you posted doesn't have that many details.
>>1865933
Yeah I've done a few minimalist walls with Shiro, I agree getting the hair shading to "work" is complicated
Also I'm working on a wallpaper with a freind on deviantart, here's a preview enjoy
As the op stated it is free (if you know what I mean) what is a good site to get them? Is TBP still good I hear it is full of trash. Also Requesting any of Saitama to make this related.

Good job, you're following the lines well, perhaps too well. Although they may look like corners, that doesn't mean you should make it one when you minimalize. Use more nodes to curve it or just avoid it and make it a straight line.
The shading's good, just be careful to where you decide to apply it if you're being selective.

>>1871228
You shouldn't upload to imgur and also you should export at a higher resolution.
>>1871207
I can't blame you much since you did this from a garbage vector (Use IQDB to find the original image for future versions) but here are some things.
Much of the hair lacks curvature at tips. You want hair to be flowing in a certain direction at all times. Bend the curves at the tips to properly achieve that. You also simplified much of the longer hair. Go the extra mile and properly curve the hair so that it looks nicer. This also applies to the fur on the tail. In order to achieve this, start with only the nodes at the tips. Bend the handles so that you can get the curvature of the tips. Do not overextend handles so that it flattens at the tips. Only get them to bend to the tip, and add another node in between, if needed.
Also smooth out many areas of the hair. You can always unite hair, so if doing some in pieces helps, do that. This will help especially when you are adding hair on top of rounded areas. You should also smooth the chin.
You also have some bugs. The hair on the right clips out over the other (possibly a compound path error). You also have splotches at the tips of two pieces of hair on the bottom left and right.
>>1871228
You should redo it in Illustrator this time then. What you created in PS is very lumpy, inconsistent, and has very poor aliasing. Follow the tutorial in the OP, and do it again. It should come out infinitely better if you know what to do.
>>1871316
Uploading to Imgur is fine, so long as you don't upload anything over the 5MB limit. It only converts images to JPG if that occurs. Minimalism images almost never get that high in size, due to their simplicity, even at the very high resolutions. He also can't export higher without a loss in quality, since he did it in PS, making it a raster.
>>1871326
