What is your opinion on bar arcades? Really only kind of bar i like now. awesome old games and it's easy to ignore people.

We have one here in town that I want to hit up. I'm just sad because it looks like they have the World Warrior version of SF2 instead of at least Hyper Fighting.

Any place that has arcade games is fine by me.
>>
>>2938216

Something about having that movie playing bugs the shit out of me
>>
>>2938216
In the works of building one in my basement. Not big on going out and drinking anymore(arcades games involved or not). I like being drunk at home nowadays :^)
>>
I just wish they had console games. Maybe charge by 15 minute increments.
>>
>>2938274
Probably because it's "lol so nerdy and quirky *holds up spork* XD" the movie
>>
I like this idea. But there is nothing like that around me. If there was one down the street however, i would hit it up. The odd occasion when i'm out somewhere at a restaurant or shop and find like a rush or cruis'n' arcade machine, i'll sit down and play for a good 20 min by myself haha.

About 5 years ago now we used to have a comic shop down the street from me...it had everything from trading cards, comics, warhammer, video games and arcade machines. I used to hang out there all the time, smoke weed with the kids and play video games and free games of warhammer and shoot the shit with other 25 year old weirdos about gaming, hobbies etc. ahhh good times. The place closed down though and moved to the other side of the city though which sucks.
>>
>>2938216
arcade games are shallow credit munching garbage and I am glad to see them go
If you're looking to survive then redemption games are the only thing that still manage to make a profit.
>>
There's one near me but I'm not too interested in it. Photos on Yelp seem to indicate they mainly have old games like Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man and whatnot. Those games are cool but I am more interested in games from a few years after that, when like scrolling stages and such were normal.
>>
>>2938631
except its a bar. someone is missing the point.
>>
>>2938641
Why would you play games while drunk anyway? Wouldn't that fuck up your reaction time?
>>
>>2938643
because it's fun? have you seriously never played games drunk?

The pinball tables would be the only reason I'd go.
>>
I haven't been to a bar. It would be something I would like to do with one other person but it would REALLY depend upon the games they have and that all depends upon the owner I think.

I want the 80's games, especially western ones. There is something about the Williams line of games that is great.
>>
>>2938682
Not him, but I never play games drunk besides multiplayer games when I'm drinking with others because then it's a bit more fair. Otherwise I just watch myself run into bullets that would have been easily avoided if I was sober. So watching anime is a lot more fun, because being drunk lets me forget about how stupid it is and just enjoy it.
>>
>>2938779
I watched anime at twice the speed while masturbating to reach the same effect. It's pretty great.
>>
>>2938789
I'm also teaching myself to like gay porn for the incoming fujoshi domination.
>>
>>2938216
The ones with older games are nice. There's one an hour away from me I have gone to that has free play once a month and the Final Fight machine is always open but it's otherwise way too crowded and a few games need joystick repair badly. Wish there were a closer viable alternative.
>>
...The fuck? Neat
>>
There's a Round 1 near where I live and it's not a bad place.
The arcades are pretty good overall and it has other options too - A snack bar, alcohol (for the normies), Karaoke rooms, a bowling alley, and pool tables.
It's a pretty good time.
>>
>>2938789
I kept normal speed, but back when I watched Queen's Blade, my dick was in my hand throughout each episode.
>>
>>2938216
>and it's easy to ignore people.
Why even bother then? just get drunk at home
>>
>>2938862
Wow, I'm about to leave for Round 1 Puente Hills right now. Not much in the way of /vr/, but lots of great import games. Absolutely shits on Dave and Busters.
>>
>>2938274
Same. But those kind of places are usualy crowded with hipster faggots, so its expected.
>>
>>2938216
I'd never go to one. Why not go to a regular arcade?
>>
There are a few around where I live and they are awesome and in my opinion better than regular arcades. They don't have shitty redemption games, they are all quality old school arcade games. One of them has a few newer games like DDR and some lightgun games but also skeeball and airhockey. The best part is they all have pinball. And you can drink there. They are way better than bars to me because they can be really social fun hangout spots where you can meet people over a game of Tetris and Simpsons or just go solo and still have an awesome time just playing some great games.
>>
>>2938989
As a guy who owns a lot of arcade machines it would make me so fucking mad to see some drunk dipshits wrecking my arcade machines.

Arcade cab's always got used and abused, but you add a bunch of drunk guys and it suddenly gets even worse.
>>
>>2938216
They're basically the exact clientele of the hipster collector douche that ruined the scene, way to support the nazis bro
>>
>>2939005
As someone who doesn't own any arcade machines, I would be pissed too but without these barcades there wouldn't be anywhere I could play them. And between the few in my area, all the drunk dipshit bros only go to one of them, the rest are actually really laid back and don't think too much damage is done to them. There is also the idea that adults, drunk or not, know what they are doing and aren't trying to damage the machine like some shithead teenagers.
>>
>>2939005
Ready for this?

You can pay attention to whats going on at your machines and ban people who are destroying them.

Or pay someone to do that

There's one where I live in the downtown area, but I am 5 years sober and have severe dietary restrictions. So I would feel like an asshole just going there to drink water, order zero food and only play arcade games.
>>
>>2939014
>ruined the scene
You know home video games killed arcades right?

>>2939035
Go! Honestly that is what is cool about them, you're not an asshole because you're still spending money on games. I often drink when I go but have been plenty of times when I'm feeling cheap and just get water. Going to a regular bar and doing that is way more noticeable.
>>
I have one near me. I don't drink and can't eat the food there because my health is fucked so I feel like it would be pretty to just go in there and get water or a coke..
>>
>>2939050
Here in México what destroyed arcades were those shit hacks of king of fighters 2002 and poorly done multigame arcades, then came out the xbox arcades of 5 minutes pper peso, and those fucking gamblin slot machines.
>>
>>2939005
All bars back in the Golden Age of video games had a few arcade cabinets in them. AND you could smoke in them, so many cabinets had ashtrays as well.

>I see you're on my lawn, vacate immediately
>>
>>2939131
Wait, arcades in Mexico lasted long enough for a game in fucking 2002 to kill them off?

That's pretty good, man.

Oh and what's the deal with Mexicans and KoF? They lose their fucking minds over it.

I had Mexican friends in school and they would not play anything else other than KoF.
>>
>>2939005
Your machines will be fine.

And unless you have a biker bar, brawls and crazy shit break out a lot less often than you think.

Also, as previously stated, old bars had arcade machines in them and you can ask people to simmer down or eject them.
>>
>>2938216
This cannot possibly be any kind of bar. Bars are always crammed full of people when they're open.
>>
>>2938862
Same person here.
I just came back from Round 1. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed my time there right now.
I mostly played rail shooters though, but that's my comfort zone.
It's strange seeing so many "normies" there since I would think they'd just be spending time at the bar/karaoke/bowling/pool areas.
So many hot girls, but are accompanied by boyfriends :(
Anyways, I plan on getting good at House of the Dead 4.
>>
>>2939035
Any tips for sobriety?
>>
>>2939035
nobody will give a shit, you're still supporting their business. Tip your waitress or bartender and enjoy some games
>>
Just went to one last night. Grabbed a couple gin and tonics and proceeded to have some heated-ass NFL Blitz with muh bros. Good fun
>>
>>2941089
put down the fucking bottle
>>
>>2941089
dont do it.
>>
>>2941089
I'm a sobriety weekend warrior. Just don't let it take over your life.
>>
>>2941089
Not him but get a hobby that keeps you busy. I find that I want to drink more when bored. Chewing gum helps also.
>>
>>2939551
>It's strange seeing so many "normies" there since I would think they'd just be spending time at the bar/karaoke/bowling/pool areas.

Not to be rude, but you aren't special for liking video games. You people are way out of touch if you think people don't like vidya.

>>2941118

thanks i'll check it out.

re sobriety
my post was edited by a mod(?). I never had a drinking problem, never really drank really because it aggravates my condition.
there's a supplement called NAC that's super cheap and easy on the body that has been shown to significantly reduce cocaine use in rats, and gambling cravings in humans. lots of anecdotal evidence that it helps addiction (which is most likely largely the same across substances.)
I would give that a try along with being overly cautious... remove all alcohol from the house, don't go into bars, don't be with friends that are drinking, etc.
My aunt was an alcoholic for years and is totally fine now, but she had to do that shit for a while to get straight.
>>
>>2939035

Then order food and a softdrink. Not drinking booze is fine, but most of their overhead probably comes from food and drinks.
>>
>>2938369
Isn't Scott Pilgrim a story about some idiot who ends up doing a bunch of unrealistic nonsense for some damaged goods type slut, and he has to beat up all the other guys who fucked her or something?

yeah there's something really freudian and disturbing about that
>>
in canada if you go to a bar and don't drink the patrons will actually get mad at you

it's a funny place, it's basically that alcoholic relative with no job whose kid is really smart, but then that kid just grows up and ends up being the same as their parent

don't go to canada guys it's shit here america is better
>>
>>2941164
I understand that video games are mainstream as fuck, but I highly doubt those people I'm talking about care about video games beyond playing the occasional CoD, Halo, or BF match or playing on the phones.
>>
>>2941638
>live in Canada
>this has never happened ever

As long as you're keeping to yourself no one gives a shit. Sure, if you're in some absolute shithole like Fort McMurray then you have bigger problems then some patrons at a bar getting mad at you.
>>
>>2941646
Exactly, people in Canada will hate you without telling you, then stab you when you go out for a smoke.

Then the cops will show up and drive you to the edge of town to die in the snow, because that's apparently their only job here.
>>
>>2941661
bullshit, Alaskafag here went to Canada and nobody said shit, maybe they could sense the superior snowman that I was.
>>
>>2941681
Kid obviously is a liar or lives in a shithole.

I've lived in Northern BC for most of my life, people are just fucking nicer then down south. I imagine it's the same if you go to the Yukon and such. Sure, there are some rough guys, but most of them aren't going to actively seek out a guy just casually drinking, they usually end up finding the other rough guys looking for a fight.
>>
>>2941705
I live in Edmonton.

It really is a shithole as far as the people that live there.

5 yrs sober guy here.

First few months were hell. I was physically dependent on alcohol as well as occasionally abusing other drugs and there were lots of withdrawal symptoms and anxiety issues. Moeshit cute girl shows probably saved my life, I would watch entire seasons of crap like a-channel or sketchbook in a night because the fear would get so bad and it would be the only thing to take my mind off of drugs or suicide. I basically just over and over started thinking alcohol = poison, and went out of my way to cut it out of my life.

After the first few months, and making an effort to improve your shitty life, the mental issues start to go away, and you just need to keep up the idea that this stuff is poison and it will destroy you. For myself, I know that even one beer will lead to excuses to have another, and the mind will just automatically start to try repeating all the unconscious behavior one did when they drank. So I never have that one beer, and I never have to make those chains of decisions that leads to drinking. It also gets a lot easier as it turns from forcing habits into just how you live your life.

The one thing that still impresses me is how deep the roots for addiction go. Five years on, I still have dreams about drinking or cravings for alcohol or drugs. I accept them for what they are and just go on with my life. Some people can handle drinking, but I'm not one of those so I don't let it enter my life.
>>
>>2941775
Not him but I want your strength man
>>
>>2941775

I can't have one beer. I have one and then it's 0 to blackout.

....I'm blackout a lot.

On topic. 1-up in Denver was kinda neat for awhile. It's loud and obnoxious now though, and I don't give a shit about hipsters yelling.....

I live in the mountains though, so I only go once or twice a year.
>>
Strangely I find myself often able to smoke or drink as much or as little as I want, but I end up getting anxious and restless about being sober.

However, it's my opinion that I was pretty high strung and neurotic even before substance use, and the usage of them to self-medicate is more of a lifestyle problem than an addiction.

On the other hand it is a fact that the only time I feel happy and alright and enthusiastic about life is right after I do a fat line of cocaine.

BUT

on the other hand, I only started doing coke recently and before that I was just never happy period so

I guess I just wish I had more money to buy more blow. the main two reasons I cut back on drinking are to lose weight and to reduce the damage and tolerance level for cocaine use (apparently alcohol and cocaine activate the same enzyme)
>>
>>2938216
I have one of these near me. Its great

Oh, I visited Denver and found 1up to be a blast. The one in Colfax, the Lodo location is supposedly not as fun.

They were having some kind of "retro" party that I just brazingly snuck into since Coloradoans are too polite to actually stop you.

Good times.
>>
>>2938216
what the FUCK
of course we dont get cool shit like this up in faggot Connecticut
>>
>>2942110
Well on the bright side, your cocaine use has helped you stop drinking and lose weight so keep up the good work.

>>2942149
And yet you still reply a day later. Might as well be a samefag.

>>2942189
There is a place in new haven opening up. It seems to be a small chain of barcades but the other ones look pretty cool.
>>
>>2939209
Because Neo Geos were popular since they were cheaper than CPS and other arcade boards. My cousins and friends who are straight outta mexico love KOF 98 and 2002.
I used to be a big capcom fan but slowingly moving over to SNK but Garou is the best fighter they've made
In Leon back in 2007, I remember there was this big arcade in el centro had a cabient of Marvel super heroes vs Street fighter, anyone know if its still there?
also good arcades in Morelia? might visit family there in the future and really feel like testing my KOF skills.

That's exactly why bars are the best place to play. Most of the other players will be drinking, so you have a much better chance of getting the high score.
