This place used to be a haven, and besides Doom general and stuff, you would hardly ever see the same thread twice!
I recall /v/ crossposters coming here and people politely telling them "hey, welcome to /vr/. this isn't how things work around here, though. we don't like to blindly insult people, or to insult video games without any through explanation. enjoy your stay!"
Wait, what? Although I don't think there's any examples of this in real life, it actually would make perfect biological sense. Having some sort of welcoming signal to the vagina would encourage sex and reproduction, leading to the proliferation of the gene that contains the data for the aforementioned "lines".
I didn't come from /v/. I was mainly looking at /d/ and /tg/ at the time. /v/ is for people who don't really care about video games much but still want to talk about them. I care about them more than that, so I occasionally come here because I know it'll be relatively safe from the idiot fartings of manchildren.
/v/ only talks about flavor of the month stuff. It was extremely hard to talk about anything older than a few years; even if there were people to willing to discuss, you'd be flooded by people saying "it's shit" because it's old with no proper argument or thoughtful opinion. So yeah, I don't come from /v/.
I loved it here though until a few months ago. Does anyone know what changed? What sparked the flood of new posters unfamiliar with the etiquette we built up?
I can't remember my exact first, but on of earliest was back in 1998 or so, when I was five or so. I got turned the fuck on by the girl from Aladdin, who's picture I saw in a coloring book. I went under my bed and continuously touched my dick to the picture. (I didn't know about masturbating until I was 11 when I saw someone doing it on Cinemax.)
>>2919549 If you want "normal", you have literally the entire rest of the internet to be "normal" in. Just a bunch of "normal" people talking normally about normal games, never ever saying anything that might be considered strange or offensive.
>>2918809 I didn't come from /v/. I went on /v/ once several years ago, didn't understand anything being discussed as I'd never owned any console newer than N64, tried to start a new thread, got no replies, lurked in a few threads, saw no video game discussion beyond calling each other faggots for liking the wrong things and never went back. I came here from /ck/.
>>2918709 I recall when the board first started, I politely but firmly said that Chrono Trigger wasn't all that great. I was asked "why?" and explained myself. Other people politely said 'I see what you mean now, but I still disagree.' and that was the end of it. Then, in another thread, when I also politely said I didn't like CT much, it went to >implying faggot ever got all the endings When I told them that I did, indeed, get all the endings, including parallel versions of the same endings (text changes, nothing major) and recorded them on VHS back in the day, did all the side quests and everything and still don't think it's that great a game, the response was 'oh, okay, then.' Thereafter, when I made the same claims in another thread (mind you, none of these threads were about CT, they just gravitated that way for some reason), the reply was 'why the fuck would you do all that if you don't fucking like it, faggot?!' So if you don't play it enough, you're a faggot. If you play it through and don't like it, you're a faggot. Sounds very much like what I saw on /v/ all those years ago. Still not that bad, though that's not the end of /vr/'s evolution.
Now, unless we're fellating Chrono Trigger deep and long enough for it to dump a hot, creamy load down our throats, we're labeled terrorists who hate /vr/'s Chrono Trigger freedoms or branded heretics who are to be burned at the stake.
>>2919556 /v/ has a good thread every once in a while in a mountain of shit. When it has a good thread, it's worth sticking around for.
Also, /tg/'s been dead to me ever since nazi mod came in and removed a lot of discussion, and when generals/quests/etc started eating up the board. People may have complained it was a lot of warhammer and D&D back then, but the OC /tg/ used to generate was insane, a product of a different time.
>>2918902 Now that you mention it, Ifrit for me at age 10 was one of the earliest signs of me eventually growing up to be a cock guzzling faggot. Though I somehow managed to avoid becoming a furry though.
Cid Highwind was also someone I had more interest in than usual, but they never sexed him up in game.
>>2921575 Some people claim it's about how squishy he is, but I've never had much of a problem with him dying, unless it's when a boss uses a nuke attack of some kind on everyone, in which case it doesn't really matter all that much. But especially in the 3D versions, I just steal Darkness from Odin, give him the Augment, and even without the two best katanas he's still doing more damage than either Kain or Cecil, and Rydia's the only one who beats him out in multitarget damage.
