Did anyone else avoid picking the girl characters in video games as a kid? Now I feel like I usually pick them first to make up for all those times I neglected playing as cute girl characters back in the day.
I really don't want to know how much furry porn there is of that character now. But hey, Golden Axe was a great game right guys?
It helps a game to have great presentation so one would pick the female characters.
I only pick girl characters in DOA, but that's because everyone has totally equal chances there with the nonstop countering.
In more technical games I pick whichever character plays the way I want to.
Depends on whether or not there's a gameplay difference. I'll play whatever I enjoy most, but if the characters play identical I like playing as the guys because I play games to escape reality and imagine being something very different for an hour.
When I was an adolescent I usually picked the girl characters to check them out but now I usually go with the Strong/Slow type characters which usually aren't girls - Unless they're identical like in Sega Bass Fishing then I still go for the girl.
I used to. But then I played Samurai Shodown at the arcade with some friends and took too long selecting a character and got lumped with Charlotte.
It was love at first sight. Dat poking stick.
>Not liking cute girls even as a kid
>Not always picking girl when given the chance
>Specially when there is character customization
Sakura. I never played as gurl characters because my 9 year old masculinity was at steak, but Sakura was the SFA3 character that I would wreck people's shit with.
My dad would never pick females and blaze has really cool trows, so I didn't mind.
nowadays my friends still ask me to pick female in multiplayer games so they can see what changes
guess I live in a world of insecure faggots
I never had this problem when I was a kid. When I played SoR2 I always picked Blaze because HOLY SHIT SHE HAS, LIKE, THIS HADOUKEN THING AS HE SPECIAL ATTACK AND KICKS PEOPLE TO THE MOON
I was a simple child.
I think it's pretty natural to shy away from picking girls as a kid unless there's some huge in-game difference.
There was one kid we hung out with though who tried to imply someone who picked girls in fighting games was gay or something, in a really 10-year old spiteful way. He was an asshole.
I don't think you realize where my interests lied when I was a child OP.
The funny part is that I like guys more in real life than I could ever love a woman.
Nope. Thanks to having watched a shit-ton of girly anime in the '80s (Ranma 1/2, Dirty Pair, Urusei Yatsura, Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis), I ALWAYS picked the cute girl characters!
I prefered to pick the 'strong guys' (characters like Zangief and Raiden/Big Bear) when I was a kid actually. I just got interested to pick the girls in my late teens when I got introduced to KOF and went to revisit my childhood with Streets of Rage.
I was a 90s guy but the same logic applies
I really don't like play with girls in vidya because their styles in games usually sucks hard in comparison with guys. The only womyn I actually enjoy playing is Vanessa, from KoF series. I play with Yuri too, but it would be really better if she wasn't a parody character and was a serious kyokugen fighter.
Rumiko Takahashi said herself that it was aimed at preteen girls.
Nope, playing as Princess Toadstool in SMB2 showed just how kickass girl characters can be. And in the SNES Power Rangers game I gave everyone a go. Usually the order I did was Jason for Level 1, Billy for Level 2, Zack for Level 3, Kimberly for Level 5, and Trini for Level 5.
>I still don't pick them. I have no interest in playing as a girl.
This is how I roll. I always pick characters that resemble my real self. That doesn't usually work out though and the immersion is ruined.
>I always pick characters that resemble my real self
What games allow you to play as the basement dwelling neckbeard?
The closest thing I could find.
>character who is said to be among the strongest women on the planet
>in game is actually among the best characters
>has a victory pose that's essentially "I CAN'T BELIEVE I ACTUALLY WON!"
>Tfw I watched a lot of mecha/actions anime in the 90's
>Gravitated towards cool-looking guys because of it
I couldn't take girly anime. I felt ashamed for watching it. Like some invisible person was standing behind me, judging me or some shit. I'd always get really hot and sweaty and then turn it off.
Is something wrong with me?
>He still has a sense of shame
>Being a regular person
Not to sound like those condescending folk at /a/, but what you described sounds a lot like insecurity within yourself. You don't see yourself as a "cool guy", which is why you liked Gundam. The girl anime didn't do anything for you, and your feelings of coolness were gone. It varies case by case.
When I was a kid I'd never pick girls, Rival Schools changed that
>playing as Skate
>mfw jumping on a thug's back and punching the shit out of them
>enjoy staring at attractive female characters
>think theres something "wrong" with me because I have this urge I dont understand
I also thought cooties were actually a disease and women were the result of a man catching it.
I was a stupid child.
I would only pick them to fap, especially Sega and Capcom games.
These days I just don't care anymore, and would rather pick a fun character. But no shit, just a few days ago I booted up Streets of Rage 3 and was playing as Blaze as she is a qt and is fun to play.
I also main Fio in Metal Slug, always.
>Publishers didn't want to release Shantae because the main character was a girl, thus making it a girly game
Same shitty reason why we never had Monster World IV in Mega Drive. At least Sega fixed that mistake years later by releasing it on XBLA/PSN/WiiWare.
>>Publishers didn't want to release Shantae because the main character was a girl,
I don't know how much I believe that honestly
Ranma 1/2 (season 1)

I didn't pick them, because most of the games I played didn't have them. I do pick Blaze in SoR, though.
>That awesome picture.
I feel so damn bad because Kamiomutsu apparently isn't drawing anymore ever.
She was a really insane woman in a bad way but still I'll miss her.
But yeah, nah.
I avoided using some girls like Chun li and generally every girl from fighting games excluding Hotaru Futaba.
In every other game I just chosed what fitted me better
