Family has a road trip planned before I have to go back to college and I own a 3DS to take with me. Thinking about loading it up with some games from Virtual Console store.
In particular, the Game Boy Final Fantasy games, which I've never ever played.
Which one should I get? Final Fantasy Legend 1 or 2 or 3? Final Fantasy Adventure?
Never played them, so I don't want to go into it blind. Any recommendations?
First off, all four games are actually part of the SaGa series; the series started on the Game Boy but Square rebranded them FF games for the US market in the early 90s.
Of the four, Adventures is the easiest but it's more or less Legend of Zelda/Crystalis type hack and slash and explore RPG whereas the Legend trilogy is more standard RPG.
Of the three Legends games, I'd give II the highest thumbs up due to story. Of the three, the first two games are the best while the third one is the most underwhelming.

Adventure is a Seiken Densetsu/Mana game, you tard.
The 3 Legend games are SaGa games.

My dear friend. I respectfully disagree. I enjoyed Legend 3. The time traveling was well done in my opinion.
Why is this such a shitty TV?
It's staring you right in the face - mono audio.

There's more to being a good person than having a stereo tv.

I'm 32, and I was a SNES kid, so I didn't have much NES or Mega Drive though. I've played the big SNES games, and I'm working on the more other titles now.
>>4171164
Cocoron is great, it's like a Mega Man clone with custom characters.
I also recommend Gunstar Heroes highly, A+ game.
Which is the better N64 Goemon game, /vr/?
>>4171150
They've got completely different gameplay, not really super comparable.
I love Mystical Ninja, but damn that game was already notoriously lo-fi when it released, I can't imagine it holds up well, so I'm going to go with 2.
>>4171150
Goemon 2 is pal only? Fucking damn.
I'm looking to find out what an old game I played a long time ago was called.
It was a DOS, isometric fantasy game but I remember it being really funny and vulgar. All I can remember is that you could kill anything, and I there there was a chicken at the beginning that you could kill.
Picture not the game, but it sorta looked like this.
Fallout 1/2
Ultima VII
Dungeon Keeper?

How many hours does it take to git gud at shoot'em ups, and which ones are the best to practice?
vulgus is a shmup in its purest form. everything afterwards only add fancy effects
It doesn't take more than a few hours week to show improvement if you don't credit feed,
and play which ever ones you enjoy, I started with CAVE's shit but some are more suitable for beginners than others

>I started with CAVE's shit
You poor soul.
It is Autumn of 1994. Sonic & Knuckles has just been released to critical acclaim, and it seems like the only way for SEGA to go is up. (you) have been put in charge of bringing the Sonic franchise to the next generation.
How do you proceed?
>it's another "what if" Sega thread

Good post, really made me think.
Make Tails a girl.
Is Phantasy Star a "classic"?
I don't know
>>4170176
Accurate.
Theoretically, in an alternate universe, assuming Sega could actually get their shit together and wasn't incredibly autistic, do you think it would be physically possible for them to re-enter the hardware business and actually turn a profit? Imagine:
>base price of $300
>attractive and streamlined, but with just enough of a quirky design to look intriguing, black with some colorful accents, no nostalgia fanservice -- entirely new branding
>solid, ergonomic controller with no gimmicks
>console doesn't focus on raw power, but rather ease of programmability
>affords developers a slightly bigger cut of game sale proceeds than the competition, which, combined with being easy to code, incentivizes third party support
>online is free (or extremely cheap), and every user gets a free choice of, say, 5 older Sega titles to enjoy right off the bat, out of a catalog of 100 or so
>a few solid launch titles, with a focus on brand new Sega-developed IPs rather than rehashes of older Sega properties, although one or two classic series as well
Personally, I do not think Sega could actually pull this off, because to this day they cannot even figure out how to make a decent Sonic game. However, if they weren't retarded, the only way I could see this working is if they ditched the nostalgia factor (no "Dreamcast 2" bullshit), and basically re-invented themselves, while still providing the unique experiences they are known for. Could it be done?
At least Dreamcast has best version of GTA 2.

No. Next.
All they need to do is a better switch
I recently found a large selection of classic game consoles from my late grandfather's house. I don't really know much about games pre 90s so I was hoping someone could help me figure out how much this stuff is worth.
Pictures will follow in the next posts, but in general I have:
>Magnavox Odyssey
Original box is gone, but instead it's in a white hard case with a handle.
>Odyssey Shooting Gallery
Just the gun and the box. Not totally sure what else was supposed to come with it
>Commodore Vic-20
Seems to be complete
>Amiga 500
Also seems to be complete, though I don't know what it could be missing
>Commodore monitor
Not totally sure what to list this as but it has "1084" on the front bottom left
>Various cassettes
I surprisingly have no idea what these actually go to but they all seem to be purchased from RadioShack. No cassettes reader to play them on though.
Help would definitely be appreciated. Pictures in next posts.

It is late 1992 and the 3DO is in mid-development stage. You are a software technician working alongside Trip Hawkins. Hawkins is serisouly considering having people other than Panasonic finish up and distribute the 3DO. What will you do to convince him to change his mind on letting people like Goldstar(at least for the Western game market) go ahead and make their versions of the 3DO. Do you try and convince him to stick solely with Panasonic, or just be more selective on who is allowed to manufacture 3DO system models, jump ship, or other?
>>4168801
>implying he would listen
I'd suggest he mail Ken Kutaragi the head of Howard Lincoln as a tribute and humbly request his support either tacit or material.
>>4168843
Well, What makes you so sure of that/
Is Actraiser any good? If I like god sims and monster-em-ups will I like this game?
How about the sequel? I heard it's just action and no sim, but how does it compare to the first game?
>>4168690
Developed by the people did Soul Blazer trilogy, can't be TOO bad
Rolfe and Matei did a show on it a while back
>>4168693
Thanks I'll look it up.
>>4168690
I finished it a few days ago. It's a simplified Populous mixed with a very easy platform game, so nothing spectacular, though I like how the game goes through the things you did to help every region during the ending.
About the sequel, I didn't know there was one, so I can't help you there.
Remember me?

Shill some bucks to get it on VC or emulate it
What are the best versions of Wizardry? Specially the first three ones, in which there seems to be a divide between SFC and PS.
>>4168139
Apple II or nothing since those games are only worth playing if you want to see how the RPG genre developed.
>>4168139
I like to do the PC 88 versions
Basically I'd say whichever is most convenient though. SFC allows for really easy rerolls for bonus stats.

pc-88 version is the way to go desu
