Ultima or Might&Magic?
Might&Magic although Britannia is probably more fleshed out.
I never got the appeal of Ultima. MM all the way.
M&M only really started to build a world with M&M6 revisiting the world from HoMM2.
Before that you're always thrown into a new setting with relatively little interaction. Most plot is limited to the manuals with no meaningful relation to the events of the game. Even Alamar as a recurring villain remains shallow and vague.
On the other hand Britannia becomes your second home.
What's the GOAT Game Boy Game?
DK 94
Jurassic Park
>>4178130
There are 3. DK94, Links Awakening, and Metal Gear Solid if you count the GBC.
Anyone here backing the Dreamcade kickstarter? It doesn't seem to be doing as good as it should the retarded sigma indie gogo did much more and wasn't as good as this.
Pretty decent specs for $99, can run any emulator up to dreamcast without any problems and can run a good chunk of PS2/Gamecube/Wii games though many games have frame drops from these three consoles. Steam games up to Street Fighter IV can play flawlessly, newer games run like crap but you can always stream them. Hulu/Netflix/normal junk is all there.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1329525418/dreamcade-replay-one-console-to-rule-them-all?token=db604b98
Nothing can run Dreamcast games without any problems. nullDC is good but a lot of games still look kinda fucked up.

OC WALLPAPER DUMP
Is this the worst entry in the franchise? Jesus christ this game is painful to play through and the hospital section is the biggest bore in existence.
Yep, it's the worst game in the series. Also Haunting Ground(though not retro) is better than Clock Tower 3.
the first two games (SNES and PSX) are good, the rest suck
haunting ground is good
>>4177959
Haunting Ground and Hell Night are better Clock Tower games than the actual Clock Tower games
is Hydro Thunder better on ps1 or n64? Trying to decide what to buy it on
No I don't have a dreamcast
Go for the dreamcast version
kek
N64 desu
>>4177845
then get pc version
What ever became of the new Daytona game?
Also Sega Racing games thread. Rally > Daytona > Outrun > the rest
But Outrun isn't a racing game, it's a driving game
Also it's better than Rally and Daytonafite me
tututu tutu tututu tu ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
>>4177668
Outrun > Rally > Daytona > the rest
But honestly what >>4177672 said "Outrun isn't a racing game, it's a driving game" so it shouldn't count.
Just bought an NES in almost perfect condition for $25, came with RCA cables and AC adapter but no games or controllers. Almost no yellowing and only two minor dings on the corners.
How'd I do? What should I buy to play?
>>4177593
>What should I buy to play?
A flashcart.
>>4177593
the NES library hardly needs introducing to most people, play all the marios, zelda 1, contra, ninja gaiden, contra, tetris, kung fu, all the castlvanias especially, and personal favorite palamedes 1+2
>>4177593
>place validate my existence for buying a toy.
lol. I guess you'll need to stick to games that don't require a controller until you get one of those.
JUMP! JUMP!
SLIDE! SLIDE!
>>4177312
Yes, jump. Right off a fucking cliff for reminding me of this atrocity.
Is there a correct term for up-ones?
extra life
It's stupid to call it a 1up in anything other than a Mario game.
>>4177194
This.
It was always life/lives for me and everyone I know.
>>4177194
Several non-Mario games use 1-UP, but I agree that extra life is the second most acceptable.
I'm curious /vr/, how do you guys store your cartridges? Do you stack them in piles or keep them upright in rows?
As a comic collector keeping them in rows is just a habit for me (the whole thing about bending books' spines), does that have any effect on plastic Game Boy cartridges? It seems like a hassle for a collection that isn't very expansive.
on my sd card lol
What I find to be the cheapest and best solution for bigger cartridges is to get those pull-out drawers that people store cassettes and vhs tapes in. For gameboy games, theyre literally so small you can just put them in plastic cases and stash them away in a drawer or something.
I went the autism route. (Pic isn't mine.)
Just make sure to edit your spines. The inconsistent company logos pisses me off, and I had to reprint some because I just printed without thinking.
Why are there so many retro strategy guides that are untranslated? A lot of them contain developer interviews, I wish there was more interest in them
>>4176527
Because it's a lot of work for something that's fairly niche.
If you donate money you can probably get shmuplations to do a commission or something.
http://shmuplations.com/games/
Just another reason to learn Japanese.
Foreign material wasn't valued like today. And some of those works are too niche and/or require a good understanding if the japanese language that weebs obsessed with anime will never have.
What's the point of wasting a perfectly good AGS-101 screen on a GBC?
if it's after market then whatever. if you rip apart an ags-101 to backlight an inferior console youre autistic.
>well i mean you have to mutilate the inside of the case
>and it still won't close again
>and the power switch stops working
>and the screen ends up being the wrong size anyway
>but hey it's backlit so
Just frontlight it.
The whole modding meme is some frankenstein shit.
Favorite retro soundtracks?
Battle Garegga, Namiki perfectly balanced the FM instruments and PCM Samples in that game. Just listen to Underwater Rampart.
Sooo many, but this always held a special place.
>>4176178
Such a nice, comfy song. Shame the game is a masochistic exercise in punishment and self-flagellation. Fuck shmups.
Was there any commercial (or maybe even Homebrew) games on 90's unix workstations? I just love the aesthetic and comfyness of this machines. Did anyone made some games for them? I'm talking not about ports of doom, wolf3d and shit like, but about unique games designed specifically for this platforms and utilizing their power.
>>4175369
Many of the early Unix distros had a /games directory but I think these were games designed to be played at a (text) terminal. They had stuff like: Rouge, Zork, Trek, Hunt the Wumpus, Chess, word games, etc.
SGI workstations were used extensively in the entertainment industry throughout the 90s. Including game development. They were used for rendering, motion capture and maybe general software development.
I seem to recall game source code being discovered on used SGI workstations.
Turok maybe? I don't remember exactly.
As a (general) rule workstations are for work, but that work might include producing entertainment. They're not targeted for playing games. That's not to say they haven't been used for games.
Quake was made on an SGI, I believe.
>>4175431
Wasnt it a NeXT?
