Who else here racing wheel master race? What controllers/seats/games you got?
just got a cheap thrustmaster ferrari red legend, it's surprisingly good to play MAME (Virtua Racing and Super Monaco GP are my favourites), DOS titles like TNFS and emulate the Negcon in epsxe
I've just got a Thrustmaster TMX Pro but after playing around and finding it awkward to use on my crummy setup I decided to order a Wheel Stand Pro Deluxe V2.
Been playing a little Dirt Rally which is heaps of fun. I can't wait for the stand to arrive.
I got a Xbox 360 Force Feedback Wheel. Has anyone patched any of those MAME games to take advantage of the force feedback? I feel some games simulated the road and wheels pushing back against the way you're turning.
I recently saw Total Annihilation on Steam, recommended to me because I've played RTS games in the past. What does /vr/ think of it?
>>4183092
I never beat the SP campaigns from either Arms or Core and it's been a long time since I've played it in multiplayer but it's alright for a RTS from the 90s. I like playing with robots and I thought the storytelling right before you started a mission was immersive enough. Gameplay is kinda like Command & Conquer and Dune 2000 so and AFAIK there shouldn't be (many) compatibility problems so if you're fine with all of those you could pick it up during a sale or something. It's also on GOG by the way.
>>4183092
Played it a bit. Found it kinda boring compared to Starcraft 1 and never got used to the game mechanics.
>>4183182
for old games like this, is it better to go with gog over steam?
Which game was a bigger clusterfuck?
>>4182935
I've only played cd out of the two and yeah it's a mess
>>4182935
I couldn't get through Chaotix as a kid because of how boring it was compared to regular Sonic games.
Chaotix isn't even a finished game.
found this as well as a boxed atari 2600 while cleaning out my dads childhood home, anyone know what the hell it is, cant find any info about it online, im assuming its just a shitty rip off console dick smith made back in the day. should i keep it or throw it away? dosent have a power adapter so i cant actually try it out tho. also im australian i that helps
>Dick Smith
>>4182890
I'd keep it. Never seen one of those before. I also had a good time googling Dick Smith.
why is this the greatest 8/16-bit shmup ever made?
>>4182864
Why? Because an experienced team worked really hard on it.
it's not. people just act like it because of the music and decent graphics
>>4182869
what's better?
If I don't have a CD/DVD burner?
Or are there other ways of running backups?
>>4182531
>willing to spend money on an outdated retro video game console
>not willing to drop $40 for a CD burner so he can play the entire library for free
>>4182587
This
>>4182531
>CD/DVD burner
>Doesn't know about a component that could replace the CD reader completely via microSD slot.
Just try and name one flaw.
>>4182412
>What is Carnival Night Zone
>What is Marble Zone
>What is Sandopolis Act 2
Other than that it was pretty fucking good desu
Why do people jizz their pants over Hydrocity so much though?
>>4182421
It's simple: It's the only good water level in a Sonic game (or at least it's the only one where going underwater is actually fun).
>>4182412
>& knuckles
Need I say more?
I'm looking for good /vr/ tactical RPGs
here's my list so far for ones I have or plan to get:
>Shining Force series
>Fire Emblem series
>FF Tactics series
>Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series
>Phantom Brave
>Arc the Lad series
>X-Com series
>Vandal Hearts series
>Super Robot Wars series
>Gladius
>LotR: The Third Age (GBA)
>Summoner Night
>Dragon Force
>Rifts: Promise of Power
>LotR: Tactics
>Disgaea series
>FFXII: Revenant Wings
>Jagged Alliance series
I know some of these might not be considered /vr/ because they're on things like the PSP and DS, but nothing from here is newer than 10 years ago
any other good tactical rpgs you guys recommend? mostly looking for console ones, but a good one for things I can emulate like DOS would be good too
Valkyria Chronicles series PSP (PSN)
Xenogears PS1 (PSN).
Isn't the Megaman Battle Network series tac-rpg too?
>>4182451
just ignore it. He seems fucking autistic with his list. He's got like 25 games on that list which says he 'plans to get'. And yet he still needs more.
>>4182459
Shit. How'd I miss that plan part.
>muh spectacles
>artificial scarcity isn't re-
Didn't someone induce a price spike for Rampart on GameBoy? I remember he told the CUPodcast about it.
>but that's just on eBay!
>implying that your average brick and mortar store, craigslist, and forum sellers don't consult eBay sales for pricing. Also Pricecharting.com
>>4182345
Give me one reason why retro stores shouldn't price with eBay?
>>4182350
people actually might buy their inventory thats been sitting on the shelf for 2 years
Any of you play really retro games? I used to play Multi User Dungeons (text based environments).
Post the experiences and MuDs you've had exposure to. I Played Merentha, Legends of Terris and Federation 2 and still do sometimes.
MuDs have been around forever.
>>4182275
I still play MUDs religiously, specifically Armageddon. It's still very active and more interactive than any game with graphics ever will be.
I still play Discworld MUD on occasion. Its fantastic if you like to read Terry Pratchett stuff.
>>4182275
I played dragon realms on all for a couple months back in the day.
Last I checked they were still around.
Barrier to entry is pretty intense. Everyone has a zillion unique items and don't hangout in the low level areas.
People are pretty nice though. A guy stopped me and gave me a nice weapon because I was a new (tried a trial a few years ago)
My old character name and my 'rp' makes me want to drink poison like the bird from that comic.
As the title says, CRPG thread.
Why in the fuck is minsc considered a ranger? Has anyone in the history of BG ever used a god damn bow on him? Also how does his lore even fit him being a ranger.
Can someone explain to someone who's never seriously played a fallout game (aside from dicking around in 3 and new vegas) what's so great about Fo2? I wanted to play it, but couldn't get past the beginning part, the fighting is so fucking clunky, does the fighting stay that clunky? I wish it was more like BG's battle system.
but anyways, whats the appeal? Why is it considered one of the best CRPGs?
Any music /vr/ listen to while playing games? I like to listen to Green Day (Dookie to Nimrod) when I played 1080 Snowboarding. I also like listening to electronic music when I play PS1 games.
I listen to a lot of deep house when I play Phantasy Star Online for hours
>>4181503
>Green Day
>not Offspring
disgusting
GET THE FUCK OUT FAGGOT
GTFO srsly KYS

>>4181503
I listen to the game's music.
What are some /vr/ games that are similar to Pikmin? Games with real-time strategy, group control, puzzles, spelunking, treasure collecting, stuff like that.
I know Gamecube isn't /vr/yetbut this seems like the best place to discuss this
>>4181256
Did someone say real time strategy?play starcraft my friend
I don't think there's anything quite like Pikmin.
RTS games are actually nothing like it. Maybe Worms and Lemmings? But they're still turn-based.
Sim ant?
i'm moving to a new house so i'm digging through my old stuff to check what to take with me and what to throw away. yesterday i've found old desktop pc - it's pentium 3 with win 95 or xp installed on it + crt 14 inch monitor. since i'm e retro dos / console gamer i don't know many win only games.
are there any that would make this old pc worth keeping?
>>4180670
>I'm a redro doss/cahnsole gay-mer xDD
No, now leave and don't come back.
>>4180670
yeah dos games
>>4180683
wow. /v/ cancer is spreading fast.
Anyone have it? Is it worth it? The only complaint I always see is that is harder to take out the cartridge but it seems to work better in general.
>>4180448
Yes, and it's worth it. The grip complaint is overblown I think, because the two I have grip only slightly harder than a top loader.
Most things that fix the cartridge slot make it harder to remove cartridges.
Nearly a decade ago, I completely replaced the pin reader in my NES, and cartridges were much, much tougher to remove. But hey, no more cartridge read errors / blinking light / whatever else.
>>4180448
The grip is tighter but how often do you have to switch games for it to be a problem?
