Just picked this up on Monday
OP here. Fixed the image

hhaha this game. just no. NO
>>3757874
it reminds me of jaws. game play is ok but so monotonous and goes on and on and on
I'm playing through OoT again and I just beat Water Temple. Went to Kakariko village and triggered the cutscene with Sheik. Now he teaches me the Nocturne of Shadow and tells me to defeat the temple straight away, doesn't mention the well. So I said to myself "I'll go straight in and see how far into the temple I get without Len of Truth before I can't continue AND the game tells me I need to venture outside the temple to get the Lens". Basically I'm playing in the mindset of a complete newbie to the game who goes exactly where they're told, following the railroading.
Now I've gotten way past the compass so far with a bit of trial and error (including getting the hover boots). The game is throwing up clues about "seeking the eye of truth" but in my adopted mindset I'm assuming that, as in a lot of dungeons before, the item I need is in the dungeon itself. Is there a point where the game says "get out of the temple and look around the village, maybe go back time"?
>>3757372
Do you have a source for this image where more exist?
It's pretty awesome.
Also, I've never explored the Shadow Temple without the Eye.
Bottom of the well was the first side thing I did after going forward in time, first time I played.
Knowing Nintendo, they probably did not tell you the Eye is outside of the temple.

Getthe eye

Dere you go dawg.
Seems like bad game design/big oversight on Nintendo's part.
And now I'm wondering how the fuck I (or at least my older brothers cos I tended to watch them play games first and then went through them myself) knew to search the well as a child to find the Lens.
Donkey Kong 64 is one of my favorite childhood games. I love 3d platformers, and I really like collectathons, but I can recognize that it is flawed. Unlike its predecessor, Banjo Kazooie, it required a copious amount of backtracking. This wouldn't be so problematic if it weren't required to backtrack to get every Golden Banana, regular banana, blueprint, and hit every Kong/gun switch. So I've been thinking of a couple of ways to remove the unnecessary and bad amount of backtracking for the sake of collecting simplicity, but without destroying the mechanic of multiple characters and defeating the purpose of it. Tell me what would improve the game enough without taking away from it
>1.Allow Kongs to collect any colored banana, regardless of who it belongs to. The Kong related to the color must still be rescued for his/her banana to spawn. Golden bananas are unaffected by this change
>2.Allow the ability to switch Kongs on the spot, say through pause screen or something, so you don't have to find the tag barrel and keep going back and forth
>3.Levels that do not have Kongs unlocked by the time you are there have little or no items for them in it. This means either adding more levels or altering the content in early/late levels*
*Of course I understand the work this would require, bt we're just discussing for the sake of better game design
If you have any ideas as well don't be afraid to post. How could this game have been designed better?
this game gives me fond memories but is a buggy piece of shit
>>3757148
buggy?
Less mini games. I feel that too many golden bananas are earned from bonus barrels instead of missions you complete within the level itself. If more golden bananas were earned this way, then the levels would feel less empty and more memorable. This would ease the tedious nature that the game suffers from overall.
this is the hipster's metal slug and it'sbetter.
Not all that comparable to Metal Slug. It's a great game though, and unlike Metal Slug it's 60 fps which is a plus
>>3756839
well, why is it the hipsters metal slug?
>>3756839
does this suck
Can we have a thread about the greatest PS fighter of all time?
Sure, did anyone here ever beat Slash mode undefeated in Bushido Blade?
>>3756587
I always took pride in beating the boss suits and try hard friends with Ball and Acguy. It was seriously satisfying to see the underdog suits win.
YOU CAN'T DEFEND!
best animation ive ever seen in a videogame, even by todays standards
>>3755873
What?
The Treasure Master walk cycle is the greatest animation in vidya history.
>>3755873
this should've made to the DN3d
why is this allowed?
>>3755758
Why not? It's cute.
Personally I wish they had gone for the MM8 outfit though.
>>3755758
Delet this

>Not knowing Megaman is really a girl
Why do the majority of people think this is the best sonic?
i'm playing it at the moment for the first time, and i dont understand the praise it gets.
The past/future mechanics dont seem to add much to me, the special UFO stages are ugly and hard to control, and everything else is just standard sonic. Whats even the point of going into the future?
While i'm at it, been playing all the advance games this week, about to play no.3 this evening. I hope its better than no.2, because the bottomless pitfalls prevalent in levels such as sky canyon really pissed me off, as did the boss which has the giant hand which insta kills you, regardless of rings.
Sonic 2 is the best of the series I think,
i'm not going to give up on CD because its still fun to play, but i just dont get why so many people rate it the best.
>>3755740
>majority
You mean /v/ hipsters?
I don't like it either, bud.
>>3755740
It's an ok game, but pales in comparison to the genesis sonic games. I've found the slowdowns on real hardware to be difficult to suffer through.
>Nanomachines son
Source?
>>3755702
I'd say that looks more like a daughter, but it's nanomachines.
What would you say are the top 3 hardest retro games in existence?
Things to keep in mind when making your decision,
>Does it have infinite credits or does game over mean it's back to the start?
>Is it a long or a short game?
>Does it have many random elements?
>>3755652
can't think of anything really... I remember having a hard time playing a late 90s game called Rage of Mages 2, I kept dying so many times on that game that I used to make jokes with my firends about it... fuck. It was sorta of action RPG, not such a complex system but something in between playing, let's say Diablo and Baldur's Gate, with some Warcraft like graphics.
There are too many hard games out there, Battletoads isn't even top 10.
I'd nominate Tower of Druaga for arcades
>>3755652
Probably Nethack. There are harder rougelikes, but not a lot of harder genuinely retro ones.
Post god tier shmups
This was hard as balls but memorable from start to finish and had a 10/10 soundtrack
Thinking about it, R-Type III definitely holds up as my favorite console STG of the 4th gen. Even if it is rather slow at the start, the succeeding stages are a quite the ride even with that overpowered R-90. The bosses are bar none the series has to offer too.
>>3755319
By far my favorite.
>>3755319
>hyper mode
casual as fuck desu
the only good r-types were 1 and 2
Does /vr/ prefer cartridges or discs?
I would've rather consoles kept using carts instead of switching to CDs. Load times were a mistake.
>>3755184
Cartridges. No loading, they last forever, and enhancement chips. The only thing discs had going for them was storage.
>>3755184
I prefer both. Unfortunately developers at the time weren't very creative with how to use them together. I guess it's easy to say in hindsight.
There are a few Saturn games that use a carts to speed up and enhance the game. That works quite well. For the 3 games or whatever that used it. Until your cart slot stops working because it wasn't designed to be used.
The one that really bugs me though is the N64. The flexibility it was designed with is impressive. The only thing more impressive is how it was totally un/misused. The mirrored cart slots approach was simple and functional. Nintendos attempt to use it was a complete failure. The chinks made an awesome device for it but because chinks are thieving cunts and Nintendo are greedy control freaks it was never used for anything except to cut into Nintendo sales.. It had a CD drive, MPEG decoder, up to 32MB of RAM, it's own CPU and a parallel port.
A device like this could have been used to make games 10x larger than ever with broadcast quality FMV cut scenes and CD quality BGM. And god know what else. Don't get me wrong. It was great to be able to play N64 games off CDs in 1996. But what could have been.
>>3755184
Cartridges, no contest.
I'm glad the Switch doesn't use discs.
Laser are shit, discs rot. It's all bullshit.
Can we have a thread for cool custom modifications?
>>3755085
Maybe if someone starts one.
>>3755085
That looks like a NiGHTs version of the fucking Sonichu medallion.
>>3755170
So does CWC like Pikachu like he does Sonic?
Is there any way I can play Rondo of Blood in English? I've been beating on Google for answers, and it keeps giving me shit that doesn't work.
Yes. Play Dracula X.
You'll get more from learning Japanese.
sad moments in vidya games.
I'll start. Aerith's death FF VII
>>3754779
Gremio's death
Robo gets the shit kicked out of him
When you fuck up saving Cid's life in FF6 and then Celes throws herself off a cliff. I was 10 at the time that first happened to me and I cried like a little bitch.
