Out of every belt scroller I've played, Shadow over Mystara is the one I've felt has the most complexity without being a long game. Love the combat and how close each character is to their D&D class. I really need to unseal my PS3 copy.

I recently bought an NES and 30 games bundled together for 90 dollars. While I was looking through the games, I decided to check up on the value of some of them through pricecharting. I was surprised to see Donkey Kong has risen in price so much. Any reason why? I would never think to hunt down a copy of DK in a million years on the NES.

My thoughts exactly. Over 30 dollars for Donkey Kong on the NES? Seems extremely silly.

So I'd like to make a home emulation station to hook up to my TV, but I'm trying to pick the right kinda machine.
Intially thought of getting a Raspberry Pi and running Retropie on it, but would that be able to handle a PS1 game like Policenauts?
Would I be better off with a small custom built PC?

Mostly I wanna use it for PC Engine, 8-16 bit stuff, and maybe some Dreamcast stuff.

Dreamcast, realistically, should be on a more powerful platform.
However, RPI3 does up to PS1 near-flawlessly on Recalbox.

In other words, can a DOS machine run any emulators worth bothering with?

What about a Windows 98 and Pentium III build?

What about a Win2K and Athlon single core build?

What about a pre-OSX PPC mac?

What about an OSX era PPC mac?
Discuss what level of emulation quality you can get from different types of 'toaster' PC.
Which consoles, handhelds, 80s PCs, and arcade cabinets can each platform reliably handle?

Nesticle and Stella. There are probably MAME builds too. I played around with the idea of making cheap little arcade cabs out of old laptops but these days I'd probably use Raspberry Pi.

This game definitely has god-tier missions, but fuck, you can't defend the two missions which rehash already existing maps, it sucks too much. It almost ruins the game completely for me, even though it's 2 out of 13 missions. Also Trail of Blood is out of place when compared to the other missions.
>>
>>3780752
I think Thief 1 was better. Also the Splinter Cell series up to Chaos Theory is very clearly inspired by Thief and I would argue they're on par with the first two Thief games.

This guy didn't give me too much trouble but I've been stuck on the final boss with only the handgun, knife and 1 green herb for months.

CV has too many points of no return that will completely fuck you over. Why they messed with the item-boxes I'll never know.
>>
>>3780284
If I recall, Tyrant is on both HP and a timer to prevent an unwinnable situation, knife notwithstanding. I saw something to this effect during a run on Twitch.

But yeah that's a hard fight and CV is the weakest classic RE.

Yo i got this game a little while ago and i really dont understand the display cover function, I moved one of my mercs. Into an area that was green (it was kind of out in the open but I assumed it was ok because it's green) and she got smack by a 12 gauge.
Also whats some similar games to this? I love it. Is xcom similar? I was thinking of trying it based just on that assumption.

>i really dont understand the display cover function
it's basically field of vision of enemies
green/no color - unseen
yellow - unseen if crouched or prone
orange - unseen if prone
red - seen

but note that the cover display shows what is seen only by enemies that you currently see. if you don't see an enemy, you won't see his vision

vanilla JA2 has 360' FOV's iirc, but the 1.13 mod adds tunnel vision so you can actually sneak up behind enemies
>>
>>3780259
x-com is like Jagged Alliance but IMO gives you more room to fuck around since soldiers are expendable as fuck. And once you get used to the base game there are mods which add JA2-tier amounts of weaponry to have fun with. I love x-com.

What was the Jaguar truly capable of?
I'm particularly intrigued by its 3D capabilities.

In theory, could it have produced anything close to the "proper" 5th Generation consoles?
"Skyhammer" looks kind of impressive.

The Atari Jaguar is about as powerful as the Playstation, so it could have done pretty well with 3D games. The problem was is that the console was hell to develop on, so not many games took full potential of the hardware. If it didn't have so many problems regarding game development, its could've been a good competitor the PS1
