I'm trying to find a NES game that I played as a kid. It had top view like the picture and I'm almost sure it had some sort of UI at the right side, like a constant display of health and other parameters occupying a lot of space on the screen. It had the typical slime/warriors/dragons mythology, mostly I remember slimes and a lot of green grass...
So if it rings any bells, please post!!
It's called Hydlide!!!!! Sorry, I really did Google for a while but didn't find anything until I tried with slime. Well since I already made the thread, anyone knows if it's any good?

The Famicom port was bad and the American release didn't improve it despite coming out three years later.
Play the X1 version instead.
>>3790857
wow this is like totally an obscure game that hasn't been discussed a billion times!
>Platformer
>Sports
>Fighting
Why are these literally the only genres the Genesis had?
they arent tho
>>3790749
Because they're the best genres of course, anon.
>>3790749
Except it mostly had Action games.
I dont know if this is the right place to ask. I have been looking for a game a played as a kid at my neighbors house on their pc. Maybe 1994-5 ish?
I believe it was a point and click game based in the future and outter space. I mostly remember being in a ship, then hanging out in some bar and walking down alley ways. It was kinda dark.
pic not related.
Beneath A Steel Sky comes to mind, can't remember being on a starship though.
>>3790697
It's beneath a steel sky, some of the space quests (but if it's dark is not going to be one) or maybe Innocent until caught.

The Orion Conspiracy?
I've always been interested in this series. It's a seven-disc RPG for Dreamcast that was only released in Japan. It was released over the course of a year and each disc was it's own chapter.
Was this any good? If it was just average, how did it get 7 discs worth of content? Can anyone who played through it give a summary?
The fuck? Is that Amano's art style?
>>3790705
Sure is.
>>3790710
Is it that game that required you to finish every disc before starting the next one, and order it directly from Sega?
My N64 has a horrible problem where it will randomly reset in the midst of gameplay. Sometimes, it will only last a minute or two before it aggressively resets several times in a row.
I received this particular N64 for Christmas 20 years ago. It was the first game console I ever owned, and I would like to do whatever I can to save it before I consider replacing it with another one.
Can /vr/ help me save it?
I had that problem about a year ago, just unscrew it with a gamebit, and clean the N64 itself by using the credit card method or just use a Q tip with some window cleaner on the cartridge slot. Wait for it to dry before testing it.
>>3790604
Wrap a dollar bill around a credit card and then push that in and out of the cart connector to clean the contacts.
Re-seat the jumper or expansion pak.
If that doesn't help, check the on/off and reset switches for faults.
You can also try changing the power supply.
Is there a website where I could buy retro games that is not eBay? I'm sick of these reselling motherfuckers buying the games before I get a chance to look at them.

>ITT we post /vr/ games that no one else seems to like but we adore ourselves for whatever reason.
Starting with a personal favorite: Circus Charlie.
Simplistic and classic arcade style, was a very early Konami game (1984) in which you perform various circus acts and compete for a high score. It has a very innocent and childlike charm to it and I think I could play it endlessly. I actually experienced this game on a pirate console that had a bunch of famicom games as a kid (this game is Famicom only sadly) so it's kinda crazy I ever even discovered it, but it is noteworthy for certain.
>>3790281
I should have specified better. It's J only as far as the NES goes. There are other versions of the game on C64 and the MSX and an arcade version as well.
>>3790281
I played that on an arcade machine.
Great little game, even though there's one of the minigames I can never complete, not sure which one.
>>3790295
It really is a nice relaxing title. Any time I show it to people, I get some "why the fuck would you ever boot this?" responses though.
Quick, claim your retro husbando before someone else does!

What does /vr/ think of this?
>>3789668
Classic. But I prefer mgs3's version of it!
I haven't played it since I was a kid at a friend's house.
But I still remember a tutorial room filled with water being comfy as fuck.
>>3789668
Amazing.
Just got a Famicom and a Super Famicom that came with their original brick adapters. Is it safe to use these without a stepdown converter? Should I just get a Genesis adapter for both? What do you guys use for you Jap imports?
I use my toploading NES with the Gyromite Famicom adapter and a regular SNES with the region tabs cut out. I don't know anything about the power requirements of the FC or the SFC, so I just use my American models.
You don't need a converter just plug it in your wall and it will work fine.
>>3789665
You do need a stepdown converter if you live in Europe. I have one for my Twin Famicom.
What is the best way of playing this? Should I just go with the Virtual Console version?
emulated through mednafen
Emulate it. Search for the English patched version.
>>3789537
The English patched version isn't the best.
Play the Japanese original.
Shock troopers? Or Shock Troopers 2nd Squad?
I've played a fair amount of the first (I think I might have gotten close to a 1cc a couple years ago, but I can't remember for sure), but have yet to play number 2.
>>3788613
Shock troopers. 2nd game has serious slowdown, uglier graphics, less characters, & that obnoxious noise when killing enemies. It's still good, just not as good as the first game.
2nd Squad is a lot slower and the ugly CGI they used is a downgrade compared to the charming pixel art of the first.
Other than that the system is exactly the same, you're killing off enemies close range for health and ammo powerups.
Also they completely removed the Character Swap/Tag Team mode from 2nd Squad.
I went to a local retro store today and saw pic related for 10 bucks.
DidnĀ“t know it exists until today
Should I buy it?
thoughts on this game, /vr/
yes
no
maybe
>>3788412
>should I buy a gbc game
no.
Big mistake to come back here to ask. It's already gone - bought by someone else.
Is this wiki any good? Do you guys maintain the retro sections at all?
http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki//v/%27s_Recommended_Games_Wiki
>>3786978
For the millionth time, no. No section of the wiki is good.
Back in like 2011 it was fine but then reddit (literally) found it and a bunch of kids just started putting any piece of shit game that they enjoyed on there- what was supposed to be essentials for each console became "any game above 5/10" and thus every console is awash with licensed games that were no more than mediocre.
No, the lists are far too bloated with more than 5 games of the same genre for the same console and there is no way to fix it.
ITT: we personally rank the major consoles from each gen in terms of enjoyment.
