I just dusted off my old PSP and would like to use it as an emulator again. It was the first console where I played Tales of Phantasia, and that section where the soundtrack actually has lyrics blew me away. Also first time i read that Arche fucks like a tiger. Good times.
So what are the good emulators? Is there any platform that's actually better for emulating in general, since PSP has native PS1 support? Any good games that I might have missed that I would be able to run? (think along the lines of hidden gems like Bahamut Lagoon, I've probably played all the popular games already. I missed a lot of PS1 games though)
Let's just appreciate the PSP, an underwhelming console but a great platform for homebrews!

I remember it running most SNES and GBA games like shit, but native PS1 and good Genesis support was mostly what I used it for.
>>3801165
SNES usually runs great, only some issues with specific games. Unfortunately Kirby Super Star is one of these.
Don't know if it's the same these days
>>3801168
What emulator are you using? I never played a single SNES game I thought was running %100. A few weren't awful, but most were very choppy.
I got my PlayStation the day Columbine happened.
/vr/ anecdotes?
I borrowed this from my import-crazy buddy and I thought it was so ugly and bad I returned it to him the same day.
DirectX was codenamed the "Manhattan Project" because MS thought they could destroy the Japanese dominance of the game industry.

Well, I mean they did, so I guess it was appropriate.
For those of you who actuallybuyphysical retro games, where do you find decent prices for them? Online auctions? Yard sale/Flea market scumming? Do you just stick with flashcarts? Lend a rookie your voices, /vr/.
has anyone broke into a collectors house?
you know.. not to steal anything or anything that but.. wouldn't it be funny?
Buy sell trade group on fb
Ebay and this local gaming store before that but fuck that
>>3800141
I buy off local buy/sell sites (Kijiji because I'm Canadian), I've also created a fake facebook account to join a local game buy and sell group. Usually the prices are fair (slightly under ebay) and when you factor in the cost of shipping, I'm saving money. Occasionally a great deal pops up.
There's a local game store chain also prices certain things to sell (Genesis, GBA) which I like to collect while maintain high prices on stuff that most people are after (SNES and N64).
If you're lucky enough to live in a city, I find that trade shows are a good place to find stuff. You're unlikely to find anything for insanely cheap but you'll find some uncommon games that you're looking for and most sellers are willing to haggle a little bit, especially if you buy a few things.
It's an expensive hobby and you're coming in at a pretty tough time if you're going to try and build a substantial collection but good luck.
Happy Valentine's Day, /vr/. Who's your favorite retro videogame couple?
Probably Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man... Or maybe Alex and Luna. Or Cloudand Tifa

KID MODE
SURF THE WEB
Hello /vr/, as a long time lurker, I have enjoyed countless years of learning about and participating in the retro game community. For my Humanities course, I am currently writing a paper discussing the retro game community as a whole, coupled with several trends seen in it over the past few years. I was wondering if anyone could offer insight of what trends they have seen within the community over the last 5 and 10 years, specifically with the influx of collectors. Additionally, anyone can say what attracted them to the hobby to begin with (nostalgia, general interest, Youtubers, etc.). Thanks!

Fuck off.
>>3798084
Increase in game prices across the board, acceptance of casual gaming crowd, rise of resellers/scalpers, overall it's all gone downhill

1 thing: niggers are taking our games and its making us hard workin' white men angry.

Great website OP!
Here is another great website I recently discovered: http://www.youtube.com/
Did you know you can now watch videos of all your favorite games online in 480p!

The Home of the Underdogs had a lot of great titles. Lots of games I liked, which sadly didn't meet the mainstream success they deserve.
Do you consider the first X-COM as a contender for the best game ever made? I'd say it deserves that honor, it's such an excellent game through and through.
Sure, I've been calling it one of the best games ever made for years now. I consider it as one of the must play PC games together with Deus Ex, System Shock, Thief, and couple of other titles.
THE best? not even close
one of? maybe
top 100? definitely
it's a shame TFTD was kind of a buggy, unfair mess what with fucking LOBSTERMEN
No. The theme is cool and the strategy layer had some interesting stuff going on but the actual battles were fairly mediocre compared to a lot of other, better TRPGs.
and why?
The best waifu, obviously.
Frog is a close second.
I think his song says it all.
Magus.
Used to live in a flying island, has incredible magical powers, can fly, wears a cape, his weapon is a scythe, has an army of weird creatures that worship him like a god and lives in a dope castle.
The only way this could be any better would be to have Ayla, Lucca and Schala as an harem. Honestly, you know i'm right.
why are retro games so fucking expensive.
Especially Mario Bros 3

Supply and demand.
You can play everything for free on an emulator anyway. All you're buying when you buy a retro game is the warm fuzzy feeling of owning a piece of history.
>>3795306
Supply and demand. Where the demand is normies who view retro stuff as a cool status raiser. Taken from experience
[normie 1] "I'll bring the N64!
[normie 2] "WHOAH you have an N64? And it still works??"
[normie 1] "Lol yeah and I have Smash too!!"

There's the system and 6 games(including mario 3) for less than $100.

Less than $20 for just the game.
I don't see what the issue is.

I know you're trying to mock it, but joke's on you, ALL competitive gaming is retarded and cancerous.
I fucking hate how sports games back in the day were like $70 and now they're like $1 now.... I mean what the fuck is up with that?

my thoughts EXACTLY
i play games to decapitate dragons and shoot aliens in the face
throwing a ball around is very achievable in the real world
Who remembers?
Just used it the other day.
I do. Really good shit. The whole trading copied games with friends thing was one of the best parts of the amiga culture.
