Butt-kicking for goodness!
squeak!
You are surrounded. Cut off. Dead.
Bring me his ... his ear!
How does this compare to the other SNES FFs? Would you recommend it?
>>3805872
5>6>4. Highly recommended.
>>3805872
cons:
>simple story, sometimes lack of direction on where to go next
>high encounter rate
>somewhat obscure secrets (mostly getting many of the espers)
pros:
>fast paced
>best mechanics of any FF game
>tough but fair
>probably the most fun of the SNES FFs
Miles better than FFIV, and depending on how much do you value story, better than FFVI
i didnt like the job system because the high amount of choice it gave me made me fear that i was fucking up my characters and i couldnt decide which jobs to use and i am kinda paralyzed about playing this game. on top of that, the job system takes away all the uniqueness of the characters. locke being a fast thief and cyan being a juggernaught mofo etc gave the characters a personality which FFV obviously lacks, so it is hard to care that much about the characters or advancing the story. also the story is bland and boring.
help pls i want to enjoy this game
Just replayed NES Contra, but not THAT Contra that jusy poped in your mind, but Contra Force (Or also known as Super Contra 6)
I was always a fan of Contra Force, though deep down i did felt like it doesn't really fit in the series.
Just recently found out, that originally KONAMI planned to release this game under title "ARC HOUND" but last minute slapped a Contra logo on it for US market.
Still, best Contra (Or call it Contra spin off) for me. Even did the video replaying it! (With epic ending)

My Favorite Contra game.

So this thing is $200 and it doesn't even run everything. Why does this board constantly spout "buy a flashcart"?
>>3783971
It runs Earthbound, which can be $200, plus many other games.
>>3783971
There are only a handful of games it won't play, probably less than 20. Of those, the only ones that I can think of as being worth playing are super Mario rpg, star fox, and yoshis island – if they're that important you can go out and buy them.
That said, since the sd2snes uses a programmable fpga, it's possible that sa1 and super fx support could be added in the future.
>>3783982
FPGAs have a pretty limited amount of programmable units. I wouldn't hold your breath that it has the capacity to do what it's currently doing and emulate two more chips with the current hardware.
Is faxanadu considered a bad game?
>>3808523
no, it's widely accepted as one of the best action/rpg's on the NES
>>3808526
This.

Wow. That is a fantastic looking sprite.
The NES really does have some great, and horrible, sprite work.
>speedrunners find a collectible in a game 17 years later in some area literally no one bothered to slam
>it fucks up every 100% speedrun
Discuss.
Has anything else like this ever happened?
>>3807720
Usually when discoveries like this happen after a long period of time, speedrunners just create a new speedrun category.
>>3807720
What are you talking about?
how the fuck do you speedrun dk64
how much of a collector are you?
i know some people like to get all the different versions of the same console, but for me as a poorfag i just get one, and idgaf if my games are CIB or not
>>3806539
I've just amassed a collection by being a collector for a long time. I buy what I like when I get an opportunity to get it cheap. For example I only have one N64 but I have four Saturns.
>>3806539
>different versions of the same console
lol no.
one of each console is enough for me.
In before someone posts a flashcart and saying "my entire collection," all the while thinking they're SO FUCKING CLEVER AND FUNNY by doing it.
Is the hype for this thing finally dead?
I remember when it was THE retro console for Normie's but I think they all moved on to gamecube
I personally like N64 more than PS1. The graphics are not pretty, but the games are top notch thanks to rare.
>>3804660
Probably not, since it's actually a good console, regardless of whether or "normies" like it or not.
However, the PlayStation is still superior.
>>3804660
It died once people realized there are only a handful of games worth playing on it.
What was his arc?
>>3804293
He gave up his friends and life style to pursue his dream of being the Sorceress' Knight
>>3804293
being a slave
He started pissed off and ended pissed off. it's like pottery.
I'm playing Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.
Do I seriously have to make my own map with graph paper and a pencil, or can one get through the game without a map by using a spell or something?
It's just really inconvenient to sit there with a piece of paper and pencil when trying to play a video game.
Good luck
>>3803201
>Do I seriously have to make my own map with graph paper and a pencil
Yes.
All you have to know is the path from the entrance to Murphy's Ghost and the path from the entrance to the elevator.
ITT retro moments in vidya that were harder than they should beI suppose it is my fault because even though I got the owl's message, I didn't know who Pols Voice and Stalfos were, I assumed they were bosses so this puzzle threw me off.Probably my fault since I'm not such a big Zelda fan, but still
This is my go-to.
>>3800538
Don't know why this is always posted. This isn't that hard when you have the right technic.
>>3800294
I got stuck at this part and dropped the game for several years as a kid. Once I finally replayed it and figured out what to do I shit my pants in joy.
Why were licensed games so much better in the past? Pic extremely related
Still love the hell out of this one.
But they weren't.

Good point, well made. Thanks for your contribution.
What is the point to owning any physical retro consoles/ games when you can throw old PC parts together and run Lakka easy as fuck?
You could even buy USB versions of console-specific controllers if you still want the feel of them in your hand.
For me, I'm running Lakka and using wireless Logitech F710 controllers. I have hundreds of games across multiple platforms available without having to move or fuck with wires and AV switches. The only thing I'm missing out on is blowing into cartridges before ramming them into a hole.
It's often said that no emulator is as accurate as the physical device. In my experience, it has to do with a very, very slight lag between a button press and when that press is expressed in-game. Very, very, very slight. It's generally imperceptible excepting only a handful of instances that I've noticed or unless you're really looking for it. One situation that comes immediately to mind where this lag is highly noticeable is the Yoshi races in Mario RPG. I was fan-fucking-tastic at them when I owned a physical console and cartridge but emulation's inability to note button presses with the same immediacy as hardware makes it nigh impossible. Another is Track and Field 2 for NES. With certain parts of the game, I used to affix a plastic ruler to the controller and flick at it. Doing this hits the buttons super quickly and results in the best possible time, faster even than turbo controllers. Emulation, however, can't handle that set up. I've only noticed this issue in a few other games that aren't springing to mind just yet. While emulation inaccuracies (including lag issues) are certainly noticeable if you pay close attention for it, it's not nearly as bad as some people here make it out to be and most games run just fine.
All that said, unless you're a stickler for whatever reason or just have an attachment to owning and playing the physical hardware, emulation should be fine for most of your gaming needs.

tl;dr version
>autism and nostalgia
it's better than emulation.
