But I like it, it's a challenging dungeon, the only problem is that it should be the last one, Spirit Temple being overall easier is kinda strange (even if the concept itself is neat), Dark Temple is more of a action dungeon than a puzzle one, but still not hard as the Water Temple.

Water temple would be the perfect last dungeon before confronting Ganon.
>>
Having to go into the menu to swap your boots on and off is tedious as fuck. Which is a shame because otherwise it's an awesomely designed dungeon.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

I'm thinking about buying a VGA to BNC adapter for my HANZO VGA box for those DC games that can do 240p or can't use VGA. Will the picture quality be terrible or is there another method for going about this besides buy a SCART Cable for the dreamcast

oldfags of /vr/..

IN the UK we had the Sinclair Spectrum vs Commodore 64, and later we had the Amiga vs Atari ST.

Did you go through the same arguments, or, what was the equivalent in your country?

>we didn't have the nes vs sms, because we all had the sms. But we did have snes vs megadrive

The Spectrum was better for games than the C64. They may not have looked as good, but they ran smoother and faster.
>>
>>3800835
The 64 was King in Australia, I know we had the Amstrad, can't recall ever seeing a speccy in the wild here. It was only through emulation I got to try the spectrum years later.
>>
>>3800870
We did have the Spectrum and ZX80 in Australia, you can find the user magazines online. Same with the SC-3000, which seems to have been more popular in New Zealand.

What are the best RE rip-offs?

Already played RE 1-3, CV, 0, Outbreak 1-2, Dino Crisis 1-2, Onimusha 1, Alone in the Dark 4...

Wanna hear opinions on
- Deep Fear (got the ROM but emulator seems buggy)
- Parasite Eve 2 (looks gorgeous but more RPG than action)
- Nocturne (PC)
- Fear Effect series
any other worthwhile alternatives? And why have no indie devs tried to emulate those games?

I've played PE2 and Fear Effect
the locations in PE2 were dull for the most part, I prefer the first game (that one's even more RPG)
Fear Effect looked fantastic to me when I played it as a kid but it relied on trial and error a lot, don't be surprised if you die a lot

>why have no indie devs tried to emulate those games?
I don't believe there are any free engines for them to use, so they're stuck with 2D or first person games
>>
I liked Martian Gopthic Unification, I even got the Windows working on a 7 machine. The setting is unique and it's got a few interesting ideas, like enemies that never die permanently and controlling 3 characters who can never get too close to each other because of how the "virus" works.

>- Parasite Eve 2 (looks gorgeous but more RPG than action)

Play PE 1 and 2. 1 is more of an rpg style game. PE2 is more of RE with magic. A bit disapointed with the locations but it's a nice RE game.

>- Deep Fear (got the ROM but emulator seems buggy)

Saturn emulation is a mess. Try Mednafen. It's still a work in progress, but it's worked for the games I've tried.

Now for the game: not any good. Only for diehard RE style fans.

>- Fear Effect series

They're sorta bad and a chore to play, but has a lot of chrarm.

I just beat Capcom's Alien vs Predator arcade game.

Ask me anything.

Can someone help me diagnose this problem with my trinitron? I just noticed this while playing gb games on my gamecube. As you can see in the photo the border of the gameboy screen looks perfectly straight. But while playing pokemon if a dialog box comes up the borders get warped and snakey. (See picture inside)

Is the geometry off or something? Ive never really noticed this on any other games. Ive tried looking into service menus but the typical (display)(5)(vol +) remote combo doesnt work.

Guys on Nintendo Age send them out for tombs, then if they aren't high enough they literally open them out of their tombs and send them back for higher grades.

Yes, people actually do that,

Only played 1, 2, 3 (SNES) and 5. Gradius 5 is the only one I didn't find boring. Maybe it's just that it was visually impressive but the asteroid field was quite cool and fighting a giant space prostate was neat.

Only ones hard on the list are arcade versions of Gradius IV and Gradius III, so joke's on you. Gradius IV is still fine by difficulty wise: sure it's difficult, but it's still feels fair, and not artificially difficult like the arcade version of III feels like. Howerer stages of IV aren't very creative. Outside the liquid metal stage, they are more or less rehashes of stages of previous titles. V and Gaiden had shitloads of more original stuff, thus I gave higher rating for them. IV has good boss fights tho. IV surely isn't a bad game, but I just happen to love more I, II, III (snes), Gaiden and V.

Arcade version of Gradius III has lot of shitty stuff like "3d" technical demo stage and the block stage. Don't even get get me started on Shadow Gear boss on this version. I've beaten the game, but I didn't enjoy it. It just wasn't fun. Sure you might enjoy it, and it's fine for me. Actually I'd like to see the rating, you would give to these games.

The opening 14 notes of that ditty are so memorable, yet I don't think they got used again until Twilight Princess.
