Why was pre 5th gen western gaming so shitty?
>Americans had mediocre artists, game designers and programmers
>Europeans had good artists and programmers but crappy game designers
Nips were absolutely destroying the competency, but then 5th gen came out and all the good stuf was like 50/50, what happened?
>>3844380
Hot opinion, Kiddo
>>3844390
>snes
Also name literally anything else.
Americans still have mediocre artists, just go take a look at western female characters and tacticool armors.
They just add a bunch of texture maps and tacky effects and call it a day.
Okay fellas, I could use a spot of help. Currently playing pic related for the first time.
I've read some comments in the past that levelling up some characters in certain ways can make them completely useless, and some of the stats in the game straight up don't work.
I have Duran in lead with Angela and Charlie as party members. Is there anything I should beware of before I get into this game properly?
What stats should I avoid with each given character?
pls respond
>>3843002
>I have Duran in lead with Angela and Charlie as party members. Is there anything I should beware of before I get into this game properly?
Yeah. You went 3 for 3 on picking the wrong characters. Congrats on making a party of betas.
>>3843039
doesn't that just mean my second playthrough will be all the better since I'll be using the others
are there any non english speakers here like me?
when i was young me and my friends could read a game title.actully,no one did.even the game sellers.they always came up with names in our native language based on the game.which they translate to something bizzare if you translate them back to english.
even know if you ask an adult non gamer person if they ever played mario on nes they say they never was.but if you ask about "mushroom eater man"they tell youall about it.
so is this thing happened only in my country?or not?
here's a list of games i could remember
>mario=mushroom eater man
>streets of rage= rebellion in the city
>super star soccer delux=narrator's football!
>sonic 2=foxy sonic
>tecmo cup=captain tsubasa!
>primal rage=animalistic mortal kombat!
>shadow dancer=doggy shinobi!!!
>flicky=chicken!!
>>3835945
Those really aren't that bizarre but it is interesting that your language has a word for mushroom eater.
>amputee shotgun gangbang boy 2
>>3835945
Russian here. Don't recall any names like that. There were short/diminutive names for some games, like "Finalka" for Final Fantasy or "Castla" for Castlevania. The only new names I remember were the fucked up "official" Dendy titles.
But while we're at it, I have a huge pet peeve with our genre monickers. Or more like, with people who ALWAYS use diminutive forms for them. Like, you know, "fighties", "racies", "shooties" and so on. For fuck's sake.
Oh, and one more thing, many people obviously mispronounce English words and names, like "Soob-Zehro" and so on. But my worst nightmare was one dude calling Akuma "Akeema". It still sounds like nails on chalkboard to me. I still can't get over it 10 years later.
Could we get a flash cart thread going? I've never owned one before, but a few years ago I used a friend's on his GBA. I never asked much about it, but I assumed that you could store the games onto the flash cart, and play them naively through your GBA. Well, I recently found my SNES, and thought I'd get a couple of games for it. After seeing how much AAA SNES games went for, I thought about going the flash cart route - but they are a hell of a lot more expensive on the SNES rather than the GBA. I'm not sure why, but the cheapest I could find was around $50. Is that normal or am I being bamboozled?
$50 is about as cheap as you can get even a half-decent SNES flash cart for SD2SNES unironically sells for $120 as do the NES and N64 flash carts, approximately.
As for why GB and DS flash carts are very cheap compared to other flash carts I couldn't really tell you for sure but probably because they're simpler with less physical room for special chips and they were produced in greater quantities since they were available while the consoles were still "current"
>>3833648
What cheap GB flash carts have you seen? I have only seen the official one for 80-90.
>>3833648
GBA carts have always been cheap for some reason. There's a guy in Germany who still sells his own synthesizer carts for GBA for 50 euro's. Thinking about buying one and using it in my EDM rig, I've played around with a friends and it's pretty damn impressive for what it is.
As for the OP, scan craigslist. Wii's can be extremely cheap and can emulate snes, nes, and genesis perfectly without you needing to worry about upscaling to HD. You might be able to find a Wii for the same price as a SNES flashcart, and it can handle up to 6th gen easily. It's also got that cool factor, "hey bro wanna play DKC2 on my hacked wii?"
Letterbombing is literally idiot proof, and you can also use it for GC and Wii games. OG hardware is nice, but emulating this way gives you a slick console feel with waaay more convenience.
Did any JagCD games also lack music?
>>3848061
Dunno, but the Jaguar looks like a toilet in your pic.
>>3848061
I'm sure this isn't exactly right but the Jaguar hardware was apparently really fucking weird, a lot of programmers had to do some bizarre shit to get things to work the way they wanted.
I think a processor used for a lot of shit in the Jaguar was also used for music, instead of having a dedicated music thing? So like you could either have a lot of shit going on in the game OR have music, not both. It was really shitty.
>>3848068
What about this pic; does it still look like a toilet?
Kek yeah, I did it! Yesterday I beat Mega Man 1 legit for the first time. Before I always destroyed the Yellow Devil with the select-glitch but now I powered through the entire game in one go.
Can I be the king of /vr/ now?
Also: Why is Mega Man 1 the best Mega Man game and the best 8-bit platformer ever made?
>>3848036
*stands up and begins applauding*
>Can I be the king of /vr/ now?
You've got a long way to go, kid
It's great, and I like the fact it is the most difficult of the series, but it isn't even the best Megamans let alone best platformer.
Megaman one is shit.
>>3848036
You don't consider the glitch to be legit?! You should play blaster master next then, no pause glitch...I don't even think its possible...uh..your highness..?
Is it just me or does sonic 1 run better than sonic 2? It just feels like the game runs smoother
>>3847734
Sonic is the best game in the sonic classic trilogy.
>>3847734
>>3847746
My nigrels.
>Sonic 2
>Next level is Aquatic Ruins Zone
>Heavy slowdown in certain sections
Is this normal? I don't have a original cartridge and used Picodrive (PSP) and my Mega Everdrive to play.
fun game. is hard
>>3847708
just released on virtual console service https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/neutopia-wii-u
my neighbour had this and I played the hell out of it as a kid but we never made it very far because our passwords didnt work all the time because our printing was so bad

any other turbo graph recommendations
So is there a fixed version of Romancing Saga 3's English translation, or do I have to work with what I got?
>>3846949
Very few people are interested in translating this series, so no.
Get ready to have your thread hijacked by autists though. /vr/ has a handful of them persistently shoehorning their "SaGa general" onto the board.
>>3846967
>>Very few people are interested in translating this series, so no.
Well, damn. Gonna put a hamper on things.
>>3846967
For a moment I thought you meant the "Learn Japanese" crowd.
I have acquired a sega mega drive II with CD addon like pic related. Saw it at a second-hand shop for 35 bucks and I had to have it.
What are the must have games for this system and is there a way to piratethese? Also is there a way to get a better signal than the tv antenna out?
Thx.
It can play burned CDs unmodified - look for bin/cue versions. You can get composite or rgb from the A/V port if you buy or make a cable. S-Video can be added with a pretty straight forward solder mod.
>>3846687
Alternative copyright is easy for the system.
>>3846687
>tosec, no-intro, redump
Pick your favorite.
>ecco, sonic cd, lunar, eternal champions, who shot johnny rock, shining force, popful mail, Robo Aleste, vay, Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin , earthworm jim, silpheed
Games listed that were on other systems had a superior SegaCD portignoring load times, ofc.
Im getting my ass handed to me at the hanging gardens
my party is mainly level 21
im not doing POTG becuase im gonna lose myself into it and i dont want that
should i farm 2-3 more levels? halp
bump :(
>>3845852
Don't use too many offensively weak Knights.
Get better at zoning.
Either have a really competent caster or buy lots of healing items.
Fiddle with abilities until you get the optimal ones for your characters.
>>3846848
Thanks for the reply
My characters are now level 25 - 27 and im destroying the place.
I did some POTD but i could not go further from level 3
How do you pronounce this?
Is it Tay-to? Or Ty-ee-to?
Tie-toe
Tie Toe
Twhaye Toeow
importfags, who do you use for proxy bidding?
my old guy got deported. i tried emailing a new place over a week ago with no response, so at the very least i know they're unprofessional and won't be dealing with them.
i tried posting this in /jp/ but the thread got deleted, i'm assuming because i didn't include anything in the OP about sniffing a 2hu, so i hope it's ok here.
>>3845076
When I was doing heavy importing I did it all through individuals on specialty forums. I still get my Famicom stuff that way for the most part, but I've nearly picked up all the carts I want at this point. Loose shit is still pretty reasonable on fleabay from time to time as well.
>>3845076
I use Shopping Mall Japan and like it. Mind you I don't buy many games through it, mostly posters. However, I have always gotten my items in great condition and they have good customer support.
>>3845076
I've been using Japan Auction Agency for 9 years.
Why does he sound like an elephant?

Because you're a bad person deep down and you've earned it.
Because he's an elephant anus demon

This, and the fact that SM uses the same sfx played at different pitches for like 90% of the enemies.
Hey /vr/, I'm looking for some kind of light gun emulation pack.
A MAME set without the fluff would be nice. I used to have most of them, but SSD failure killed my slowly growing collection.
In an ideal world, someone would have built a front-end or some shit with everything up to DEMUL, but I'm probably going to have to do all that myself again, given I play everything on Windows 7 with a secondary VGA monitor. So it's back to forcing programs into fullscreen, hiding cursors, and using macros so that offscreen reload works.
>>3843949
interested in this too
i remember hearing about how those guns that use infrared sensors are too inaccurate to be worth playing, never tried them on pc but i did notice i couldn't play with the cursor turned off when playing time crisis on the ps4 or any of the games on wii,
speaking of the wii, hows it handle og light gun games on mame?
>>3845320
>>i remember hearing about how those guns that use infrared sensors are too inaccurate to be worth playing,
Yeah, they are. It's a shame, because from my time in the arcade, I don't remember having any calibration issues with games like HOTD2 deluxe or VC3, both of which used the same concept as the wiimote, IR LEDs around the screen. But the arcade stuff is set up for a known screen size and resolution, and there's probably some fancy processing going on behind the scenes to determine angles and tilt based on the relative positionings.
Light guns just aren't popular enough for any manufacturer to start making a new gun, the only hope after CRTs are dead is probably going to come from alternate sources like the Vive's tracking stuff. It'd be nice if that stuff took off and companies like Sega and Namco released some bundle packs of old light gun games in VR.
>>3843949
have you looked into using a modded xbox? the gun for that system was really good but i have no idea which light gun games it can emulate well. i only remember playing hotd 2 and 3 off the hdd.
