What are some games with underwater levels that don't suck ass or are actually... good?

Off the top of my head the only one that comes to mind is Donkey Kong Country.
Possibly Chrono Cross's El Nido Triangle (where you find Starky's ship), but that's only like 2 screens.

I'd be willing to give it a try if I knew how / where to download it. I assume there's no single-player option, and any current servers are probably independently provided. I'm also reading something about graphics enhancements.

Is there perhaps a torrent that contains all up-to-date files in a sane and easy installation package?

So I've been thinking about RE2. What do you actually do in the game and what is the goal of the characters?

See, they first are overwelmed by zombies and then seek shelter in the police station right? But then what do they do? They try to find a way out of the city. Isn't it just kinda bullshit luck that the police station just so happens to lead to the sewer system, that leads to a scrap yard, that just so happens to have an elevator and train system to a lab, which has another train system that leads out of the city? Why would there be rationally ANY path out of the city from the police station? It's just dumb luck.

Secondly, Umbrella factory is the entrance to the labs right? It's not some place hidden in some valley somewhere. It's literally right beside the police station. There's some wrecked cars and shit, but it'd be quicker to just walk there instead of going via police station and then sewers.

Why were the stars looking for a way out of the mansion if in the middle of the monster filled woods.

Are genesis controllers particularly vulnerable to the effects of time? Just bought a genesis and a controller today, and bought another controller from a used game store.

One of them has a B button that's fucked and won't read an input unless you press excessively hard on it. Same story with the other one, except it's the C button. They both look fine cosmetically. Anything to look out for when buying genny controllers out in the wild that would indicate whether they are decent or not? Are there any new 3rd party controllers that are as good as the real deal?

I remember wearing out the B button on my cousins Genesis controller some 20 years ago. They are prone to having problems. Did you open them up and see what they look like inside? A lot of times they can get dirt and small bits of debris that can block buttons.
>>
The way they look just makes them seem so solidly built. I always liked the way Sega designed their hardware. Much more so than anything Nintendo ever came up with. Just being honest here.
>>
The way they're arched makes the B button a little looser than the other two so it gets more dirt in there. Take it apart, take the membranes out, clean them with warm soapy water then let them dry completely (!) and put them back together.

What games change music considering the current game situation?
I can think of music with/without Yoshi in SMW or battle music in Skies of Arcadia this far.

I love that sort of dynamic soundtrack that changes according to what part of the level you are or what you do.

The Goemon games for N64 come to mind, each dungeon has 3 different variations of the themes that change as you advance in the level. The music doesn't get interrupted from track to track, the change happens naturally.

An example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLjATgpc2qA
The second phase of the track happens at 0:52, and the final phase at 1:55
But that's just on this CD version of the track, in the actual game, the 2nd phase won't trigger until you reach a certain part of the dungeon, and so on.

Do I need to lubricate the stick/buttons or do any other maintenance on it?

Someone said in a previous thread:
>you might as well grab a used Mad Catz TE on Amazon and clean it up.

Mine doesn't have any stickers or sharpie on it. What else is there to clean?

Not OP but do Arcade sticks with two joysticks exist? I don't mean a two player stick, but a normal stick that happens to have another joystick for dual-stick shooters like Robotron.

people are foul, i've bought many used sticks off the internet before and had them show up covered in pet hair, human hair, various types of grease and grime etc. but if the person that sold you yours cleaned it up first, great.

you might need to lubricate the stick at some point if you want it to keep it on life support, most people will just buy a new stick for $20. same with buttons, new microswitches only cost about a dollar and you can just replace them inside of the button shells you already have.

Every controller I get I open and clean. A little white lithium grease would not be a bad idea.
I have always wanted to get a dreamcast arcade stick like the one pictured...

The Neo Geo CD had a 1X drive. The CDZ had a 2X drive that cut those load times in half. The real way to play CD games is through a Dreamcast emulator. Physically putting neo geo CD games in a dreamcast & seeing them load almost instantly is a sight to see.

Should have released sanic x-treme, in whatever state it was.

Then, at least it wouldn't have killed the company and they would have had the money to keep experimenting until they got it. Something would have worked eventually.

Yes, the two adventures were decent and a good start, but they needed to keep refining the direction. Being basically bankrupt, there was no way in hell anything of any quality could have ever again come out of the company.

>inb4 generations

It's all right. Everything could have been better. Way better.

I'll admit, I'm a bit hype for it.

The early Saturn demo of Sanic Xtreme looks like shit, but the later PC demo (in the ice level) really grew on me.

Do you believe Panzer Dragoon Saga is overhyped?

Or is ti genuinely great?
23 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Both, like most games that are overhyped. They are good, but not worth thousands of dollars or the insane "one of the best games EVER" praise.
>>
It's a good game, and almost nobody talks about it so it would have to be abysmal to be "over"-hyped. It's expensive and a prestige commodity because it had a low print run, not because people talk it up ad nauseam, but some people can't seem to understand the difference and for some reason believe that the prices of old games are a direct reflection of their quality.
>>
It is an A- or A game that honestly could have been one of the greatest games of all time except it clearly was rushed. Unlike Xenogears (another rushed game), PDS did have its entire skeleton laid out when the crunch came on but it didn't come together quite as tightly as Vagrant Story. PDS's world is canonically so vast though (compared to VS) that it feels extremely empty. It would have been so, so sweet if it had a Fable level of side quests but instead it has just teasingly enough that it might have been better if it had none. Then even more importantly while Vagrant Story short-cut their combat system by just nerfing all the mechanics they seem not to have had time to fully balance in PDS they just kind of guessed on some numbers that makes combat breakable around midgame. That gave me a power boner back in the day but it hurts my desire to replay and on top of that it has game-enhancer detection so I'm additionally discouraged from trying to raise the difficulty.

Still a very very good game with style out the ass and unique mechanics, one that scuttlebutt has the source code being lost so don't expect to ever get a port that isn't just emulation.

I have a real emo story about how I came by my first copy, and a tangentially related one about having two copies at once I could blog about but I'll control myself
