Alright, over the past year or so I've noticed posters repeatedly indicate that they're amicable to the idea of allowing the Gameboy Advance (GBA) and its titles to be discussed on /vr/. The reasons I've seen presented for including it are numerous. To offer a few examples:
>It was the last "2D focused" Nintendo platform and has hardware of comparable strength to numerous 90s home consoles
>It's the last iteration of a handheld family that has its predecessors allowed on here
>It's now roughly a decade and a half old and would definitely qualify as retro in the eyes of many people
>It featured new entries to or ports of many /vr/ relevant franchises that already come up in threads discussing said franchises regularly
>The Dreamcast is allowed to be discussed on /vr/ despite its release date because the release of the 8th generation was decided as a good point to decide to qualify it as retro, and with the advent of the Switch it feels like its time for the GBA to be permitted under similar logic due to three handheld generations having passed since its launch
However, please don't think that I'm endorsing any of the above arguments in particular or offering an exhaustive explanation of them. I'm just mentioning a handful of ones I remember seeing previously to act as a jumping off point for discussion.
And yes, I'm aware that its ultimately up to the mods to make the final call on this - but I figure that having a (hopefully civil) open discussion about it within the community is a good way to start gauge how people feel about it and hopefully spark a decision on the matter.I'm not posting about this on /qa/ specifically because I'd rather keep crossboarders out of the discussion and focus on what /vr/ thinks.
no, fuck off
go complain to hiro and make /vr2k/
Also, to put my cards on the table: Like many I'm nervous that expanding the scope of the board any further with more modern platforms may degrade the quality of the discussion on here by inviting /v/ posters and such across. That said, the GBA is definitely a nifty little platform with a lot of original games to discuss and a lot of relevance to popular franchises/series on here, and I do feel that enough time has passed that discussion of where or not it qualifies as retro is now valid.
>>3878847
I've no interest in bringing any discussion of whether /vr/ should change its' rules anywhere outside of here. It seems dumb as hell to discuss it with outsiders.
No.
With PAC-MAN 2: The new adventures.

Ok? Is this a CRUIS'N thread?
I remember the disaster Cruis'n USA was on the N64. It was one of the big ULTRA 64 titles but the port was just shit.
>>3878783
What was bad about the port?
>>3878783
It was also like the 3rd title released for the N64 outside japan
After reading about The Final Fantasy Legend, I finally got myself a copy. Any pointers or tips for a first timer? Nobody I know IRL seems to have heard or played this game before.
>>3878435
Like all games, your first playthrough should be blind. Just play it and discover the game for yourself. Don't worry about losing, it's not that hard. Save min/maxing for further playthroughs.
Enjoy! It's great.
>>3878435
Fun gaym. If you choose 4 monsters you may have a hard time, I don't think they can carry itema
>>3878448
I hate losing, but I'll keep this in mind. It certainly is different from many RPGs I've played.
Did anybody else ever find and play with this?
It is a little game called "Ken-build". A minor project made by Ken Silverman to demonstrate the Build engine. It can be found on Ken Silverman's webpage. This had a fun little set of maps to play around on, as well as a map builder that's fun to play with if you figure out how to work with it. And for a simple engine demo it's surprisingly fun. My brother and I loved playing with this. Anybody else familiar with it?
>>3878201
Ken Silverman is an autistic mastermind. He was doing some really impressive stuff with voxels for a while. I haven't heard anything about him after that though.
Pretty sure Ken Build is what persuaded 3DRealms to use Build.
>>3878228
He is being awesome once again by trying to stomp Occulus VR, probably working on the renderer of the voxiebox https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5cHbhOWavE

Not sure why this isn't getting coverage though, they also have no idea what to do with this technology http://voxon.co/community/

Dear god. It's a S'Arais post.

This is unironically my favorite 2D Zelda game.
Why do people hate this one?
Because it's different - there's a whole genre of side scrolling ARPGs though.
I'm a huge hipster, and I tend to like things more when everyone hates them.
Zelda 2 however, I played through it and it was shit.
>>3878029
>Why do people hate this one?
>"Intense action sequences"
Because they can't git gud. I guess most Zelda fans prefer casual block-sliding puzzles presented in an overhead perspective. Because, you know, that formula never gets old no matter how many times Nintendo repeats it.
I'm being offered a gift of one SNES game by a good friend, but I'm finding it hard to choose.
Plok
Shadowrun
Aladdin
What is, in your opinion, the best pick from this lot?If you want, you can also tell me what you think is the worst pick.
I'm being given the game on the condition that I don't sell it so market value isn't of interest to me.
Aladdin.
People will try to tell you the Genesis version is superior.
Do not pay attention to these people.
SHADOWRUN
Shadowrun will give you the most enjoyment. Plok is just a generic platformer known for its music and Aladdin isn't very fun compared to the Genesis version.
We post our favorite games and say something we like about other people's favorites.
I've played a couple Twisted Metal games and they're pretty fun. Lately my favorite game is Megaman Legends 1.
>>3877328
Twisted Metal 2 had the best gameplay and music and i hate that we didnt got a proper sequel with that gameplay. Head on was good but another TM 2 with new cars would had been dope.
Mine would be Growlanser but that was jap only.
>>3877328
Twisted Metal 2 is a great choice. It was so satisfying playing that hearst-driving cunt who throws ghosts at people.

Why didn't this take off like the PlayStation?
It seemed to share many similar traits with the PlayStation
-played audio cds
-fmv
-solid lineup
Sega cd thread I guess too.
>-played audio cds
Anyone who could afford a Sega CD already owned some form of CD player by that point anyway
>-fmv
more like 1/3 of the screen MV
>-solid lineup
No.
>>3877020
Sega was retarded and pushed the horrible FMV games hard over the actual good stuff like Final Fight and Lords of Thunder. The CD is a great addon that has a terrible reputation from bad marketing.
>>3877034
They inherited a lot of FMV games, they didn't make many of them and, at least in my country, didn't push them.
Hello, my name is anonymous and I am a recovering Keiji Inafune fan.
I believed in Inafune. I thought he was the series creator of Mega Man, and all the best games. I thought he was this genius "creator"/director who was on par with Miyamoto. I mean, Mega Man series, the X series? This shit was my childhood.
I have since learned, that he's a credit stealing con-man. A complete fraud who exagerated his role for personal glory.
Fuck you Keiji Inafune.
I understand your pain, OP. It was the same for me with Miyamoto and Star fox zero. Oh how angry and betrayed I felt.
The past will always be there for you, so cheer up.
>>3876923
Growing up I believed in Inafune. I watched the interview with the "creator of mega man" in the Anniversary Collection. I watched the G4TV's Icons special on MegaMan. They only interviewed Inafune, and he explained the history of the series. I believed he was the creator of the series at the time. Looking back, he never actually said that he was the creator who did everything. But of course, he never named anyone else's contributions, so naturally I attributed everything to him. That's how he works. Just lets you fill in the holes in your head.
He knew that image and perception was everything. If you are the face connected to a series, then nothing else mattes. He did interviews not because he "loved the fans" but because that by putting yourself out there, you market and promote yourself. None of the other Mega Man devs did that. They were all anonymous.
>>3876923
Well, the difference there is Miyamoto was a legitimate genius designer who hasn't been able to keep up with innovations in game design since his time. Not many people realize that Ocarina of Time was actually one of the last titles that Miyamoto was heavily involved in every aspect of before he let the new guard of Aonuma and Koizumi take control of Mario and Zelda, so that's how long Miyamoto has been out of the real development trenches.
Inafune by all accounts was never anything special at all. To be fair, we really don't know for sure what he contributed design-wise other than the character designs. But it seems his true impact was more keeping the series alive over the years from a business standpoint.
What makes your comfiest game comfy?

What up /vr/. So I went back to this goodwill and the cute cashier there was right. She said this was brought out minutes ago. I bought it hour 14.99. And a bunch of other cool retro stuff. I haven't onened it yet. But I hope all is there. Ive always wanted one of these.
Just a friendly reminder that this thread is bait.

No shit, Sherlock
>>3876165
No beito desu kind sir. It really did happened. I live in So Cal where the population density is high. And spring cleaning is a normality. Makes it possible for random shit to show up in random donation stores. Not my problem there is no such luck where u live. Just saying tho and just sharing my random finds.
What is your favorite fighting game and why is it samurai shitstorm
Probably by total time played, it's either SFA3 or KoF'98/2000/2002. SFA3 was my first fightan and so I played the hell out of iton GBA. KoF was what made me stay though.
>>3875783
I can enjoy SSV, but IMO it's just a bit overthought. All those evades, modes and stuff, paired with gameplay that can be all pokes the whole match… It's just not my cup of tea. Still a good game, but I prefer the simplicity and fun of SS2. That, or rushdown of KoF.
>>3875783
Probably Marvel vs Capcom. I like them dead simple button mashers
>>3875783
Because this.
