Why isn't there an option in Sonic 3 Complete to use the invincibility/minor boss/knuckles themes from Sonic 3 in Angel Island to Launch Base, then use the invincibility/minor boss/knuckles from Sonic & Knuckles in Mushroom Hill onward?

Puyu Puyu Tetris desu. Moving the tetronimos never felt so good.

To keep it retro, I'll just say I really like Tetris for the CD-I. Gameplay is pretty mediocre for a tetris game, but the soundtrack and aesthetics are god-tier.

These threads are dumb. It's just everyone trying to troll each other, but it doesn't work because it's the one and only thread on /vr/ where everyone realizes that's what's going on.

JRPGs aren't really RPGs and aren't worth playing.
American games are largely awful.
European games are the best and have the best art/music.
Home computers are better than consoles.

So what do you think has better sprite animation? I don't particularly think the Metal Slug games are the most amazingly animated sprite based games ever, but I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that is better.

I watched a Let's Play of one of the King's Field games recently... I don't remember which one though. It seemed interesting but clunky. Dude had to be poking walls all the time in case they might be fake, or something? And the combat seemed pretty slow and simplistic.

If there had been no imminent Saturn, this would have been a decent piece of hardware.

But they sold it wrong. It should have been an all-in-one with Sega CD like the Turbo Duo.

Anyway, came a year too late even with the Saturn on the horizon.

Amiga emulation.

Hey /vr/. I'm looking to emulate an Amiga 1.3 workbench on a modern PC. I know it's possible to emulate with the whatever emulator, but my problem is I'd like to make a dedicated Amiga 500 or above out of a spare PC have laying around that I can use to boot pirate floppies with.

Is something like this possible? Essentially make a modern PC use the Amiga 'OS' and boot pirated floppies. I'm not asking for a 100% perfect emulation, and I am happy if it is an emulation as long as I don't have to deal with windows, arcade guis and I can boot software from floppies

I feel like this makes no sense.

Boot from floppies ain't gonna happen, but you could try this:

http://www.icarosdesktop.org/

Closest you will get to an Amiga experience on a PC with integrated 68k emulation.

For real on the floppies? Why is that?
>>

I'm all honesty I just miss having to swap disks. Do you know if it would be possible to set up something like WinUAE to read from a floppy drive for the adf file instead of loading the individual disks in the same time and swapping using the gui? I couldn't find anything.

Today is the 20 year anniversary of Symphony of the Night. Is this the best 2D game of all time? Think of everything it innovated.

>RPG mechanics in a platformer
>co-pioneering the Metroidvania genre
>different endings
>multi-replayability

>and last but not least after you beat the dude controlling Richter and you think the game is over, you have to play through the same entire gigantic castle but UPSIDE DOWN.

zelda 2 did it first

>co-pioneering the Metroidvania genre
no. metroid did it first then castlevania copied it

no. chrono trigger did it better

Game Tifa:

Why has the fanbase totally reversed their personalities? Is it just because Tifa is a titty monster that they assume, falsely, that she must be a slut?

To be fair, Tifa dresses like a prostitute, not saying she is one but ahe is certainly dressed like it.
>>
Its something ive wondered for a long time.

The titties are probably part of it. Also its an anime cliche for a childhood friend character to be a tomboy and for the 'main' love interest to be a pure shy spineless love doll. Look at how much of the fanbase hadnt even played the fucking game and it makes sense they'd get these personalities, shitty cliche anime stereotypes are all those people know.

Fuck square for embracing it. Butchering these characters in advent children and especially kingdom hearts really reinforced those characterizations as well. In that game Cloud is the dark and moody edge lord fanart always made him out to be as well. Kingdom Hearts was actually a pretty big part of FF7's portrayal becoming irreversibly fucked.

I really like the first NES Zelda, but I can't help but think that it's sort of a failure in terms of its design.

You take a game like Super Mario Bros. and it has held up amazingly well in terms of design. Anyone with any skill set can sit down, start up Level 1-1 and learn the basics in five minutes or less, with the implication that they'll improve their skill set over time. It's simple.

I know Zelda is its own thing and a totally different genre, but in replaying it I can't help but think that this ideology of a game where swapping secrets with your friends just guarantees that your game will feel dated not only in terms of visual/audio presentation but in gameplay as well.

There is so much obscure, cryptic stuff in this game that it's a frustration in of itself just to figure out what step one really is. I know that's the point, but all these years later down the road that directionlessness just seems sort of boggling. I know the American manual had a map (albiet a very poor one) and the game isn't that hard to figure out after a lot of tinkering, but the fact that someone can't really get full enjoyment out of the game without looking stuff up or posting on a forum kind of disappoints me.

I'm not ragging on the gameplay or anything like that, I'm having a blast, but the idea of not having these resources and having to load up the same screen every time just to burn individual bushes makes me realize that maybe at its core philosophy, the original NES Zelda (and Zelda II to an extent) is not very fun.

Metroid you can crawl around and figure things out very soon after an upgrade.

LOZ nes is more like you can crawl around for 40 hours before you locate dungeon 1.

Op's right, the primary storyline should be easy to discover and follow but the advantages, good items and other stuff is fine to hide.
They literally hid the storyline like it was a cicada puzzle.
Seasons and ages, for example, are mind blowingly cryptic but never took hours to progress one step because of clues and directions people threw your way. They are the correct balance of "holy shit what the fuck do I do" and "this is easier than learning ABCs with big bird."

Loz nes is literally impossible without a guide. I think Nintendo was just conspiring to sell more Nintendo power subscriptions and holy shit did that game do the trick.
