TV/Movie themed games. This trope was very common among western platformers, and I can't understand why, as I can't stand it. I mean, I can understand one or two games, but we had plenty
I recall the 3 Gex games, the two Bug!, Garfield Caught in The Act and Conker.
Actually I'm playing Gex 2 almost 20 years after I first played it, and it's awful.
>>3886126
>Actually I'm playing Gex 2 almost 20 years
There's you problem.
These games were pop culture games tailored to cool kids who get to watch R-rated movies with their parents.
Basically using memes fro famous films to get the player to say "lol I know what that's from!"
It was a way to market games by getting players to identify with developers based on movies they'd seen.
Of course time has not been kind. You're an adult now. Those cheap little meme themes don't activate your almonds anymore.
Smash TV.
>>3886215
Yeah, but I'm talking about the gameplay and the fuckin awful camera. Gex 2 just sucks.
>Those cheap little meme themes don't activate your almonds anymore.
Oh,this and a comment I did about 1 month ago gave me ideas. Wait for it.
This password starts you off in Tourian with the Varia Suit, Ice and Wave Beams, five energy tanks, seven missile containers, and 151 missiles. The game time from the password (when entered into a Metroid Password Generator) is approximately 841,268 hours, 56 minutes and ten seconds, or a little over 96 years.
Kek. Not gonna try it, this is either bait or a mod!
>>3886060
It's legit. I used an unmodified NTSC ROM to test the password. I used both NEStopia on my PC and FCEUX-gx on my Wii to test it, and they both worked as advertised.
MOTHERFUKER IT ACTUALLY WORKED
Just got this bad boy for $150. Also recent finds general.
$700 hookers dont sell for $150, pal.
I was dragged out of the store because it was closing, but when I last checked my second hand store they had King's Field (as in the second game, the first one released here) and the second Castlevania on N64
did I make a mistake? I might go back to see if they're still there
>>3885984
I paid $5 for my Snatcher copy. It was at a flea market in the middle of nowhere, ten years ago (worth about $200 at the time).
Let's see your favorites, whether its memorable, funny, poignant, or whatever.
Preferably screen-grabs, gifs/webms, or whatnot, but I won't be too picky.
Starting with one of my favorites! IMMORTAL MURDER MACHINES, MOTHERFUCKERS
When the devs just hate you
Besides the obvious LucasArts ones, what are some good graphic adventures?
>>3885704
The Sierra ones of course. Yeah some are brutal about killing you all the time but they are genius more often than not.

I never see anyone talking about this hidden gem and I am sure it will get ignored once again. AS USUAL.
Yu-no
WELL
done.

Is there any difference between the Playstation and Saturn versions?
>>3885583
Not that I've noted, but I don't have extensive experience with the Saturn version.
So im selling my console doubles, only doubt is which one of my Snes should i keep? the 1st gen or the 1 chip? please can anyone give me the basic gestalt on pros and cons.
1 chip is better in every way.
1 chip for sure.
>>3885274
Makes no difference, unless you are a turbo autist.
Anti-piracy messages thread? This scared the hell out of me as a kid. I didn't even know my dad was buying pirated games.
>>3884745
I wonder what was he thinking when she said that
>>3884745
What crappy pirates, there was a patch for this pretty quickly.

DKC2 has one. I tried the Game Genie code they provided that displays this message, 6D60-4F0F, but it actually crashes SNES9X and I'm too lazy to try it in Higan.
I once made it a personal goal to beat super mario bros as fire mario. It wasn't easy because the damn bloopers got me each time, but I eventually did it. What are some other personal goals that you set for a game for fun or for challenge? It doesn't matter how silly or insane it sounds.
not get seen in the first 3 splinter cell games on hardest diffiliculty
>>3884828
Not get seen in all of high school. I met my goal
Playing through certain games without dying is the only challenge I've given myself.
I made my main party in FF9 Zidane/Freya/Amarant/Quina a long time ago because I thought it would be the game more challenging, and then it turned out to be one hell of a fucking good combination, now I use it every time. If you take the time to get Quina's abilities and catch frogs she becomes pretty much the best character in the game. Gotta love Blue Magic.
Are the any NES controllers, be they official or third party, with both a turbo feature and a d-pad that isn't dogshit like pic related?
Sansui Joycard SSS if you want to go expensive meme route.
I enjoy these Dendy-style controllers myself. They're cheap, and they feel comfortable in the hand with the Famicom-style rounded design. And the round D-pad is way more comfortable than the original in some games. They unfortunately break after a while though.

for famicom yes, bot not for NES
Why are amerifats so obsessed with an inferior version of the Famicom?
>>3884424
Because that is what we had back in the day. None of those Chinese knockoffs for us.
Why are europoors so obsessed with what americans like?
Did Mike get his pallete teeth fixed?
I remember he had a gap like madonna.
Anybody played this? I would be willing to translate it if someone could help accessing the game files.
What translator credentials do you have to show for?
>>3884165
oh shut up

You're better off learning hacking yourself. It's not that hard, if I could learn with no prior programming knowledge, anyone can.
How difficult was it to program a game for the Net Yaroze?
Could an amateur have ordered the system and made any progress without needing to take programming classes?
>>3884003
IRC it supported C so as long as you had it's technical limitations in mind it should've been pretty straightforward.
>>3884003
Impossible. If you're serious about it, here's what you do:
First, get a standard calculus text and dive in. You should also get linear algebra and discrete math books as well; make sure the discrete text is proof based.
Once you're a couple chapters in to your discrete book (you will want to have covered basic proposition and higher order logic, and basic proofs), you may begin learning programming and computer architecture. As a litmus test, if you don't know what this statement is
∀P((0∈P∧∀i(i∈P-->i+1∈P))-->∀n(n∈P))
you aren't ready to take the reins of a computer.
Now, forget what you do know about computer programming:
First, you learn boolean logic operations
then, you learn transistor logic
then, you learn how to build functional units from logic gates
then, you learn CPU design
then, and only then, you learn assembly language
then, after you have mastered assembly language (not dabbled, but mastered it), you learn C
then, after you have mastered C, you may learn the higher-level languages of your choice, but you will always use C and assembly as your primary languages because everything else is unnecessary bloat.
By this time you should be finished with your calculus (up to advanced integration techniques and vector basics), discrete, and linear algebra, and are ready for the next wave of math: abstract algebra, analysis, multivariate and vector calculus, and, after you have progressed a way in those, topology.
Finally, you become familiar with topoi, and study the internal logic of categories
then familiarize yourself with (general) type theory, and its applications to programming. I also recommend studying how to reformulate mathematics in terms of globular categories for use in automatic theorem proving, because there is an inherent programming-like 'feel' to it.

for that post +10 internet points to you sir.
Also OP after you do all that make sure the game is good :o)
All of these consoles were a step above the SNES, Genesis, and Turbo Duo. They could even handle some fully polygonal games.
However, which console was the strongest of the three and how far could these consoles actually be pushed?
I'd say 3DO had a potential. It actually had a good line-up of games, like AD&D and the first Gex for instance. 32X and especially Jaguar are irredeemable garbage that could compete for the the title of the worst console ever.
>>3883696
It had less powerful hardware compared to Jaguar and 32x.
>>3883708
Wow really? Usually I hear people put 3DO above other two but I think it might have been a misconception due to it having much better support and it being easier to squeeze out more power due to CDs having tons more storage space than mid-90s carts.
ITT: games that were exclusively released in Japan (or other non-English-speaking countries) and either have an English patch or don't require one to play
I've seen lots of these threads about RPGs, so let's try focusing on other genres, please.
