Here's FF9's Ozma being beaten with just level 1 Freya.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DhRM22NB8w

There must be loads more of videos like these from different retro videogames, right?
18 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Three things to bear in mind about FF9:

1.) Ozma's AI script is almost entirely based on countering your menu cursor's movements.

2.) Several character skills are powered up in ways that are completely unrelated to leveling up. e.g. Quina's Frog Drop can quickly reach max damage by simply having Quina run around swamps and capture frogs.

3.) Enemy HP is restricted to a 16-bit value (i.e. a maximum of 65,535)

So it's not farfetched that a level 1 character can solo any boss in this game. All the player would have to do is train any non-level-specific character skill until it could achieve max damage.

Check Garlandthegreat's youtube channel, he's probably the best (or most autist) FFVII player in the world

In FF9 I found a full proof safe way to kill Grand Dragons up Gizamaluke's grotto at the start of Disc2 when going back to Zidane's party.

Grand Dragons have 3 attacks: a poison attack, a thunder attack, and the regular physical attack. The key is to have all your characters immuned to poison and thunder, which at this stage of the game actually takes a lot, and to have a shit down of phoenix down and always keep someone ready to revive anyone hit by his physical attack.

This game is so incredibly bland and boring. I knew it was going to be a step down from Super Star, but this... What the hell it feels like a Kirby fan game.

Is it considered to be this bad or do you think I'm being overly critical?

Never played the original, but I love PW64.
It's both a relaxing game and a very challenging flight sim. Getting the gold medal in some missions (especially the hanglider) can take a lot of tries, but when you know what to do, it's actually possible, it's a well designed sim/arcade hybrid.
As a kid I just enjoyed flying around, discovering places and goofing around, the missions were too hard for me. As an adult I actually got into the scoring system and the missions, and completed it (or so I think, I believe I still need a gold medal in one of the cannon extras)
>>
I about had anxiety attacks trying to land that damn rocket belt on the moving pads. The final helicopter mission was stressful too. It's a miracle I ever beat that game.
>>
>>3895356
>>it' super-relaxing and won't stress you out like other games

I don't know who told you that and about which game exactly but the SNES version has a steap learning curve. The BGM is pretty good but even that I would hardly call relaxing.

Regardless, it's not hard to finish the first airplane segment once you know the controls and got gud. It's only where you get tol the third or fourth area where things get really challenging.

>>3895365
Seconding this about the N64 version. The visuals seem more outdated to me but it's got a ton of variety and the scoring system is excellent for replay value.

Haven't played the 3DS version yet but would love to as I loved every game before it.

Hey VR. So I have a Sony Trinitron KV-24FS120 with component in and I'm trying to properly connect my computer to it to send native tv resolutions for emulation directly to it. Looking online I've seen multiple methods to create this kind of connection but a lot try to tell you you need old hardware and etc. what seemed the most convenient and cost effective for me which was to a component to scart box; https://www.amazon.com/SPECIALTY-AV-SCART-Component-Converter-Genesis/dp/B004XSSDPO and a cord to and from tv; https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003ZFNZOU/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 from there I have a Syncblaster VGA to SCART cable https://www.keene.co.uk/syncblaster-cable-scart-to-15-pin-vga-3-metre.html . Looking online I should not be having any issues with hardware incompatibility, I have an Nvidia GTX 980 which is the last card in the 900 family which I read online is the last family of Nvidia cards to support custom resolutions with it's drivers and software, and I have used the Control Panel to send 480i and even lower resolutions on my hdtv over hdmi with no problems so I know the computer can output these resolutions.

My computer sees it as "analog tv" but when I try to put it to 480i and 240p that the tv should be able to accept all I receive is a heavily distorted and static picture. Playing around with the different resolutions settings I've only been able to get vaguely different static screens, sometimes I can partly see my desktop although still distorted but I can see that some form of distinguishable picture rarely comes through, all black and white.

I can't find anymore leads online and I feel I've tried setting all the different kinds of resolutions that tv supports and any of the different timing settings I could select from Nvidia's control panel dropdown but don't know what to try maunually. I've tried other programs to make my computer output these resolutions like CRT_Emudriver PowerStrip and Soft 15Khz.

>>
Your sync is too high, use a hacked driver like soft15khz (crt_emudriver won't work on nvidia). Your sync frequency needs to be 15khz for an sd crt.
>>
>>3895257
Is there any known way to other than soft 15khz because it doesn't seem to accept my gpu but I know I've heard of people using this line of gpu for 240p on crt?

I've been playing them in order (but plan on doing vii last because of length.) I'm about 20hrs into IX and I really like it. I think it might even be my favorite in the series, even just this far in.

The story isn't amazing, and it probably isn't even the best DQ at being a DQ game, but it's nailing something I've been wanting for almost a decade now: It's a single player game that REALLY feels like an MMO. Even more specifically, it feels a lot like FFXI, which I really enjoyed back in it's prime.

I mean, look at it? It has repeatable fetch quests, enemies on the map that you can kite and zone, no random encounters, a sprawling network of NPC side quests, a crafting system with map gathered resources, notorious monsters, a world map cut into smaller zones with hubs, skill points separate from job levels, job specific quests, quests with very specific prerequisites; You never run out of things to do, and not in a vast empty world sort of way like III or VI did. it constantly feels like lateral growth instead of purely vertical growth. I'm really sad I missed out on the multiplayer.

What am I really missing out on without wifi besides the multiplayer? A player economy, dlc items, dlc quests... Anything else? And how much can be added back in? I'm less interested in equipment and items and more interested in extra game content. This game is my jam and I'm probably going to replay it.
>>
Thoughts on DQXI?
>>
>>3889008
I have the consoles necessary for both versions. I'm probably gonna get them both since they're so different looking, graphically. Still debating whether to go 2D or 3D on the 3DS version, though, since you can't just keep both on for the full game. That'd be rad, honestly.

There was a pretty large number of multiplats between Genesis and SNES, so I would imagine a Chrono Trigger port wouldn't be difficult at all. Although Square probably had to sign an exclusivity contract with Nintendo in order to have any of their games licensed for the SNES, so it's doubtful they could have ported CT to any other platform at the time.
