>Sega GENESIS
What did they mean by this?
Just another marketing buzzword, like blast processing.
Sega was a shit company with no foresight. There's a reason they failed, and now develop software for Nintendo.
>>4210357
It was the Genesis of a console revolution. Sega paved the way for a lot of ideas.

I always wondered about that game. It looked like a bunch of rabbid asses walking around. Confused the fuck out of me when I saw it. Still haven't played it, not even sure I plan to, but I do get a laugh out of it every time.
Petty things that ruin games for you?
Any RPG with this kind of combat, especially if you can't even see your characters. Completely sucks me out of the entire experience instantly.
>>4208206
Interface irritation is probably the single biggest one. This can range from petty to actually significant depending on how bad it is. But like I won't replay Exile 1, while I will for 2 and 3, because you have to constantly manually look at things instead of just right clicking when adjacent like the later games let you do.
>>4208206
>rpg grind going good, get to fairly high level
>new enemy char has random, unpreventable insta-death capability
>game with modern city setting
>game has generic artstyle
>quick time events
>every few steps character dialogue pops up
What's the best PSX emulator for high resolutions?
>>4207713
>high resolutions
Are you serious? Even if you put filters on that shit, prerendered backgrounds are still going to look like garbage at higher resolutions. Your choice of emulator can't magically improve lossy images.

PCSX-R with Edgbla's gpuBladeSoft plugin

Models usually look pretty good though.
when you use one of these, does it feel like playing the actually legit game or do you know it's a rom and don't give a fuck? when i'm playing on an emulator, i just can't get into the game and just don't give one fuck about it. playing on a real cart just feels more engaging.
I wont help your hipster status. I think that's what you're getting at.
These will destroy your console so theres that.
>>4206356
>do you know it's a rom
do you know its a rom on official hardware? are you retarded?
Most violent, transgressive, or generally disturbing retro games?
Custers Revenge for the Atari 2600
>>4204461
Never forget the 2600 game Beat Em and Eat Em, where you played as naked women walking the streets catching sperm dropping from some dude jacking it on the roof top.
Beast Busters for arcade had some nice exaggerated gore.
Gotta love the pixel detail in gore for old videogames.
There's were also a pair of shoot 'em ups with bizarre gore, I think the name of one was X-Multiply or something like that.
In the other you fly in a dragon.

Why do we call big enemies at the end of level bosses? Who came up with this terminology?
Jap organized crime hierarchy.
If it was codified by Americans, they'd probably be called capos or jefes.

What are some of the earliest examples of open world games?
>>4200076
Would be great if the end game would be to make a chart -- didn't see one in the chart thread
Utlima is a classic example. I wouldn't say it was the absolutely first but it developed a world that was more than just a collection of identical towns and dungeons.

Dang that's true
It's been a while since I've done one of these. Let's hopefully get some rockin' tunes in here.

Are they ever going to include the Corrupt in UT4?
>>4043987
I'm just a cock-craving slut for the Flak Cannon.
The ballistic trajectory, the damage balance between the two fires, the joy of getting up close and frag somebody...
It can be so cheap, but it feels SO good!
>>4044018
The joy of gibbing someone when they are in front of you
Does anyone else have fond memories of this thing? I live in the States where the Master System was apparently not that common, and Sega didn't bother to release very many games in my region. My family nonetheless had a Master System for the longest time. My siblings and I alternated between playing it and our family's NES; or if someone was already playing the NES, we'd just plug the SMS into another TV so we could be playing games at the same time.
TFW You beat Safari Hunt and are treated to this Engrish jem.
We had one when I was young and so did my cousin. No one else that I knew had one. We didn't have many games for it but a few I remember having was double dragon, ghost house, wonder boy, altered beast, ghostbusters, and spy vs. spy. My mom played wonder boy all the time (about 10 years ago my siblings and I got my mom a SMS for mother's day and wonder boy) and it was the only sega we had. I have no idea what happened to it.

It's decent, it would have definitly been better if FM sound was standard
So I got Hexen 2 running with the hammer of thyrion sourceport and I got the cd music ripped into mp3 so it works on windows 7. I am trying to get the proper music going for the expansion portal of praevus but im not sure if I renamed the files right and everything because the instructions were stupid. does anyone have the music set up properly for this already and could be a pal and upload it for me?. I also want to get heretic 2 going with music but that one seems like a total pain in the ass
>>4220901
Go to the options, I remember the game supporting midi for music too so you don't need to bother with the mp3 shit if its not working.
>>4220908
yeah it does have midi too it would be nice to have the cd music but its not really a big deal desu
how do I get into pic related
should I read a riftwar book first
>>4220846
Install and play.
It's a self contained game. You can enjoy everything about it without any prior knowledge.
If you're just interested in playing the games, then you'll be fine without reading anything.
For every "oh yeah, that place" or "oh yeah, that guy" moment you'll have, there's a "wait, that's not right" instance.
The books series is worth getting into though.
The game explains everything you need to know, plenty of text.
