Do un-revistable areas in RPGs make anyone else here feel nervous? Like, so many times, you'll advance the story in a game and not be able to revisit something the way it was, such as a town becoming permanently inaccessable or an area being destroyed and simply a tiny fraction of what it was.
FFVIII was probably the worst about this when you hit disc 4 and suddenly you couldn't enter anywhere that had actual people in it.
>>3909201
I hated it in FFIX.
They did it to save memory space on the later CDs.
FFIX's fourth disc closes off a few areas via Iifa Tree roots. Otherwise entire cities are still accessible but nearly destroyed. Last time I played it I hung around on Disc 3 for a while instead of on Disc 4.
>>3909206
Really? I never thought of that, but it makes sense. Typically the last disc of the playstation FFs were full of FMVs.
I'm awaiting a Disk System in the mail and thinking of getting a FDSStick. Since the Everdrive N8 turns the sound channels to shit, is the FDSStick my best option for disk system gaming?
In a word, yes. You should still set the floppy drive under your Famicom though since you bought it.
An FDSStick is very much a worthwhile investment considering even if you own the actual disks for the system since over time the data sectors can degrade plus finding working FDS games have become a little costly.

What is the best Raiden?
Raiden II
Raiden DX or Raiden Fighters Jet.
The original is a true classic. Not terribly original by the time it came out, but it just did so many things so well, that it ended up becoming a huge arcade hit (and was one of the most pirated arcade games of all time).
Raiden 2 takes everything thats good about the first game and adds a ton of style on top. The toothpaste laser makes its debut here too.
Raiden DX is like a huge remix of Raiden 2. You'll definitely get more of it if you have played the second game, but imho the stage design, secrets and enemy placement make the game much more interesting. I would compare it to Metal Slug 2 vs Metal Slug X.
Raiden 3 is a really odd game. Unfortunately I can't say it's very good. It's worth some time if you're curious, and it's very easy to get (it's on steam).
Raiden 4 is a great game. There's no reason not to have this in your collection. Overkill adds a ton of stuff, there's a ridiculous amount of content in this game.
I haven't played Raiden 5 because I don't own an xbox one. The soundtrack is really good though.
The Raiden Fighters series of games are their own weird thing. The first game was going to be called Gun Dogs but they changed the name to capitalize on the Raiden brand. They're super fast and intense games with a really involved medaling system.

raiden fighters jet on mame takes like 3 million seconds to load up, anybody know why?
What are some gaming fansites you used to visit?
I'm pretty sure SMBHQ was the first website I ever went on.

Is this going to be one of those threads where you guys bring back dark memories of my youth?
In 1996 the big hit in Japan was the emergence of a Tomagochi - a simple video game with three buttons, the purpose of which is to educate and care for an electronic pet. The name in Japanese was "demanding love egg", and the author is a 31-year-old Japanese woman, Aki Maita, who sold his concept for an electronic animal of Japan's largest toy manufacturer Bandai Corporation. Release tomagochi was held on November 23, 1996, sales in Asia and the United States brought the company more than $ 240 million.

Are you a dinkychink or street-shitting paid poster who copy/pastes shit from the internet?
Ok
Even when I was 8, I knew this fad was a shitty waste of money
A long, long time ago, you might recall we found Osamu Sato's game "Chu-Teng", which was lost media.
Then, a year later, we found "Garage: Bad Dream Adventure", which was also lost media.
However, we've done nothing to find the OTHER lost games by Osamu Sato; the two Rolypolys games. And I think it's about time we did something about this. Mostly for both how long it's been, and because Sato's actually releasing a new album, so why not?
>>3905540
Zeddas 3 is top priority.
No one wants to play baby minigame simulator + Sato art.
>>3906795
still happy I donated $40 to the recovery auction for Garage.
I want HG101 to die, however. Bunch of idiots.
I actually read some articles on the internet talking about /vr/'s landmark discovery of Chu-Teng.
From HG101 article
>Similarly to how some films didn't survive the test of time or war, Chu-Teng was thought to have disappeared - it had become a "lost game". Well, that's what fans thought before some guys from 4ch's /vr/ board - who can do great stuff when they don't spend their time insulting each other - decided they would put their hand on this game, whatever the costs.
Classic. Can't believe I was in that thread. I feel like I'm part of shitty internet nerd history now.
Also holy shit I had to delete and resubmit this post a few times because I'm an idiot at formatting.
What's the best Bomberman for multiplayer?
Spiral Knights
5 with the extra stages

>What's the best Bomberman for multiplayer?
Let me preface this by saying I haven't played every single Bomberman title in existence, namely due to lack of access to certain platforms. Based on what I have played, Bomberman '94 seemed to have a lot of features to keep multiplayer battles from getting boring too quickly. If I'm not mistaken, this is the game that introduced Rooi / Loui / however the hell the creature's name is translated back to English.
There's a Genesis / MD port under the title Mega Bomberman, but some anons have complained about slowdown with that version. I haven't played it long enough to notice. The GEN / MD version is the only one localized to English, though.
I started laughing so hard when I saw the Wind Fish was a whale.
Fish aren't whales, Nintendo.
Was there any quality control on this game at all?
Japanese don't know science.
It seems like an autistic thing to care about
>>3900292
That is what made it a twist. Whales don't come from eggs, either.
References to the "wind fish" in the game seemed mysterious, because it's hard to imagine a magical godlike fish that can dream. If it had been called the "big fucking whale" you would've been picturing it the whole time and it would lose its mythological wonder. Whales are actually intelligent and invoke the impression of a Leviathan, so the wind fish appearing that way is appropriate.
Think of it as an ancient name based on a dead language or something. It's evocative but ultimately metaphorical.
What do you guys think is the best original Game Boy game? Post your pic and a short sentence explaining your choice.
>Donkey Kong
Best twist beginning in any game, filled to the brim with content, tight controls and interesting puzzles
DK94 is a good contender and honestly can see how it can be considered the best.
But this little beast right here takes the spot for me.
Donkey Kong was great, but it has little in the way of replay value. After you collect all the bonus items from every stage, what else is there to do?
Pic related is fun to replay since there's a number of different party configurations you can use. The large amount of beneficial glitches also make for some interesting runs.
>>3899084
Did you actually play the GB version? There are over 100 levels. You actually beat em all? This game is nothing like the original. It's more like a contained puzzle-based Mario lite.
Redpill me on Persona.
It's SMT+HS but before they mixed in the social aspects to gameplay or even went to third person dungeons.
>>3894754
First two are great.
3 and onwards are garbage waifu simulators.

Ah you're right. It does look like EarthBound.
As expected of the hands-down, indisputably greatest mangaka of all time.
Is there a good reason why these games have a separate button for missiles?
Sometimes you don't really need your missiles and want to save them for precise strikes.
>>3910679
No it's nothing but pure artificial difficulty.
Option.
How many of you for whatever reason played portables more often over consoles and computers (be they PCs, MACs, etc.)?
Game Boys, Game Gear, Tiger Handhelds, TI-83 calculators, Neo Geo Pocket Color... hell, even Sega Nomad and NEC TurboExpress if you could afford them.Do you still get in this situation?
Whenever people talk about the songs from the NES original MM2, in the back of my head I recall the songs from this fucker. Even though it's technically "rockman world 2" in japland, it was the first MM2 I personally knew. Imagine my surprise when I eventually played the NES game years after playing the GB game and got an entirely different soundtrack. Even the songs from MM1 on GB were still similar to MM1 on NES which I actually had played around the same time of release.
The worst part about this is thatI actually liked MM2gb's soundtrackand this was years before stuff like rushjet1's remixes existed.
Yes
I had older siblings so getting my own thing that I could hide in the corner and play was a godsend.I also really liked MMII as well as the other GB games
of course not. even as a kid, I recognized that handhelds were infinitely more casual than consoles and computers, therefore not worth purchasing many games for.
Mega Man 2's soundtrack was technically good, but it was ruined by a shitty programmer fucking up the music engine. You can find videos on YouTube that have it corrected, and the music is actually really good.
