Post the very first known appearance of some games. Screenshots, videos, even mentions.

I'll start Zelda 64 techdemo, before Ocarina of Time development actually started. I wish I could get a better look at Link, so I could model it on 3ds max.
https://youtu.be/oav_0MiyJpA

Accordingly to interviews in The Legend of Zelda - Art & Artifacts, the initial art for the Zelda 64 project was supplied by the same anime studios responsible for the art of the previous games. I believe that's why the very first 3D Link was so close to Zelda 1 and 2 Links.

Nah, the stuff they outsorced to animation studios in the first 4 games was mostly promotional/packaging artwork and illustrations, created *after* the in-game visual style was already in place, not first stages concept art or anything (though they did ask for test pieces when they were beginning work on OoT before they decided to keep everything in-house)

I assume Link looked like earlier Links in those demos because... that's how Link used to look? It was not like today; a striking new visual look to get people's attention was not a priority, as the exhausting pre-release hype information drip was still not an industry standard practice. Radically changing link into a bishonen was a pretty big leap, and it took a person who knew he wouldn't lose his job to take it.

Why do the new generations not appreciate Turtles In Time? I asked for opinions on /v/ and all the children there flipped their shit.

I don't think they need to appreciate it. I have no clue what the kids these days like. In my time, Turtles was aggressively marketed to the kids, and it worked. The SNES version of the game improved upon the arcade version greatly in terms of mechanics plus offering some more content, and it was one of the early titles for a new system to be excited for in its day. I had lots of fun with the game, and the kids can have fun with whatever they play now.

Take Chrono Trigger and Lunar for example. I am perfectly fine having only played the SNES/SFC of CT and Sega Mega CD version of Lunar. However there were improvements in later iterations of the same game like animated cutscenes, additional dungeons, and characters staying around which was not my experience and have yet to experience for myself, and I am fine with that. The kids get to experience better on the PS but I am at peace with the version I played. I do not require kids to appreciate the games I played, they can enjoy their newer and in theory better games.

I suppose the musou games are sort of like the modern equivalent of the brawler (belt scroller) genre. Coupled with a franchise for kids, I suppose the modern one they would like is that RWBY game. Maybe you can ask them about it.

>>3926676
Because many of us bought TMNT for the nes as kids, and it put us off to playing any other TMNT game.

I remember buying that game like it was yesterday, fuck the underwater sections, and fuck that game. Good music though.

Even as a little shit I remember thinking, ''why the fuck are they all red?''

Been sick over the Easter long weekend playing a lot of Densha De GO! and so I was wondering:

What other non-music retro games used novelty controllers in a way that was actually fun like this?

I have that. It's pretty good, but it has a lot of problems. For some reason some of the games are NTSC and others are PAL, so depending on your system they'll run at the wrong speed. Also, sometimes they're in English, sometimes Japanese. There's no consistency, and you never really know what you're getting.

If I were you, I'd get this 143-in-1 cart instead, as it's far better:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NES-143-in-1-Best-Games-Cartridge-100-WORKING-USA-Canada-Version-/172621327950?hash=item2831086e4e:g:P-kAAOSwDmBY5SQb

I should note, this cart is NTSC only, and it looks like you're in the UK. So you'll either need an NTSC NES or a PAL NES with a 60 Hz switch mod.

Thanks. I'm actually in Portugal but I use the UK Ebay to buy stuff online, sometimes I use the US Ebay to compare prices. I'll try to buy one that is in PAL B.

Hey /vr/ lets share some of our best old ass MMO moments, feels, wastes of life time, ect.
Including but not limited to Tibia, OG Runescape, The 4th coming, Haven and hearth, Shin megami tensei imagine, ect.

Tibia moment: One of the first I've played, made my first MMO buddies set up a plan to meet up for a dungeon crawl together. I was super excited and mad freshman so bought some items and began rushing over to meet up when I got stuck in a square with walls facing N,E,S,W and no idea how I did it or how to get out. Begged players who went by to tell me or help me and all I saw was "LOL". Missed my rendezvous and never saw my buddies again. Actually cried real tears.

The 4th coming: Been playing this one for many years probably about 30 others play and its been that way forever. No one ever talks to me. I'm a shadow that grinds for the rest of its existence or mine which ever ends first. Its great.

AV Famicom.

I like the "toaster's" pad better though. Never liked the dogbone.
>>
>>3924659
If you aren't too retarded to composite or RGB mod your toploader or can get someone to do it
then the Toploader wins by miles if you ask me.
The Frontloader is pretty much an unfixable piece of shit thanks to the cartridge port and the only reason people still want them is nostalgia.
Sure you could get one of those blinking light wins nowadays but then you'll have to deal with the fact that these grip cartridges like the devil and the plastic housing of the Frontloader leaves you like 1cm of cartridge to actually pull on.
Even so, the objectively best console variation to get still is the AV Famicom with an adapter if you wanna play NES stuff.
>>
>>3924659
The toaster NES.

Given that it has been modded with the region free mod, ENIO Expansion Board and most importantly, the Blinking Light Win.

NESRGB mod is optional depending on whether you want the clearest picture or not.

You can be happy with just composite and most people think that NESRGB is a meme.

It is still the prettiest looking NES unless you count any of the Famicom.

The Famicom is still superior and I recommend an original Famicom with the very simple composite mod or the NESRGB and you may also want an NES controller to Famicom expansion port adapter.

A message to the janitor of /vr/: I like you. I think you're doing a very good job. Sometimes you don't delete bad threads but you keep good threads clean from distractions and for that I'm grateful.

I suggest a space quest thread to celebrate the nice janitor's nice work.

I liked the Space Quest II VGA remake.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long before Infamous Quests releases that update it sorely needs. All it needs is a little polish.
