I remember this game and tried it once at a games store, it looked good but just didn't grab me. No wonder it was forgotten.

I played the demo. Also he had a cameo in LBA2.

I loved that game.

My SNES cannot play any Yoshi's Island cart. Why is that?

The SuperFX pins are broken? Are you sure it's not the cart itself?
>>
>>3931362
Well I tried a couple carts and both just loaded up the "Nintendo presents" Logo and then the screen went black and played the opening music on a never ending loop. Every other game I own (including StarFox which uses SuperFX) works..

What are your opinions on these two game series?

The series has become relevant recently because of the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (I know there's a thread for it up already) coming out and the upcoming release of the franchise's successor, Monster Boy.

I think they're great games but are unfortunately obscure because of their mindfucky series chronology. I also just learned that Whomp 'Em is like a spin-off of a spin-off of the original Wonder Boy.

To be honest, Super Adventure Island II might be the most underrated game I've ever played.

Extremely responsive controls, gorgeous graphics, nice music, and maybe the best localization of any game I've played on the Super Nintendo (which says a lot since the plot is very bare-bones but somehow has a lot of personality).
>>
Adventure Island games are great platformers. They were popular back in the day.
Wonder Boy 1 on the arcade was always popular, a classic, girls always liked it for some reason, and it was seen as a "girl game".
Even though I had a Genesis growing up, I just never came across the other Wonder Boy games. I played III and IV on Genesis later and they were great.
Adventure Island II, III, IV are all amazing games, must play.
New Adventure Island on PC Engine is a nice remake of the original, same simplicity with the timeless gameplay and a visual upgrade.
I have yet to play the SNES games, but I love the soundtrack of the first one (by Yuzo Koshiro) and the visuals too. The 2nd one seems to be really good, and more similar to the later Wonder Boy games.

>The game was purposely balanced so that, while the sidequests are optional to making the story progress, characters who did not improve their skills and experience by completing sidequests would be too weak to finish the game.[7]

Great "freedom" the game gives you. They sell it as a "you can do anything" game that if you don't like a quest just ignore it and quests have so many possible outcomes so you don't have to do them a certain way but it all boils down to the same thing, you're railroaded into doing them or you don't finish the game, simple as that. And while you're at it keep in mind the peaceful or stealthy solution gives you less exp than just going in and shooting everyone so that leaves you weaker too. For being such a great "role playing game" you sure are forced to play it how the devs wanted you to.

Was thinking about getting into this series, which order should I play them in? What are the best ones?

>which order should I play them in?
Any order you please, really. They're all loosely connected.

>What are the best ones?
SD3 and Secret of Mana if you ask me.
>>
>>3930574
Legend of Mana is kino. Play every single one up to Dawn tho.
>>
>>3930574
Play order is not really important as the story connection is vague if present at all. The series are tied by themes and aesthetics.

The first four games (the /vr/ ones) are widely considered the best ones.

Final Fantasy Adventure has two remakes, Sword of Mana on the GBA and Adventures of Mana on Android and ios. Sword is too convoluted (Adventure was a extremely simple game, part of its charm really) so if you have issues getting the GB game or don't like the black and white screen I'd suggest Adventures of Mana as it's the exact same original game, only with revamped graphics.

Secret of Mana has a very underdeveloped story and the gameplay is severely broken not only in difficulty but also in things like just getting around (your companions' AI gets stuck everywhere). It's a really fun game if you're playing with friends, which you can do on the SNES, and the graphics and music are really nice. If you're going to play single player only I STRONGLY suggest you get the Android/ios port unless you really hate playing on mobile or something, because it fixes all the AI issues and it controls a lot better, the menu is better, your "ship" controls better, it actually got the fix it needed. If you speak a language other than English, you will extremely benefit from this port too because every single other language has a much more robust, detailed translation.

Seiken Densetsu 3 for the SFC/SNES has an English patch, one of the oldest and most popular patches actually, and it's a blast because the story heavily changes depending on who you choose to have in your party. Gameplay wise you can tell it tried to fix Secret of Mana's most noticeable issues, but it added a few of its own too. Great game anyway.

Legend of Mana is very loose and the story and is more quest/scenario based. You build your own world map and take whatever quests you find. A very different experience, but also my favorite.

The rest of the games range from mediocre to lame.

Indeed, those are most excellent nuggets of information for those totally craving it. http://shmuptheory.blogspot.com/ This isn't updating anymore and I doubt it will in the future but I found it to be an excellent read. Check it out sometime, especially if you're looking to make a shmup of your own.

There's also hardcore gaming 101, but it's not really the best website as the site's author isn't the chillest individual most dudes or dudettes would dig hanging out with. The only reason I'm bringing it up is because the website has quite a few articles regarding retro gems, of which are also categorized in a way that makes it easy for someone to find something they might like to play.

These two are good for fighting games, despite not being 100% retro.

Is there PC CD-Rom software that is truly lost to history? How do you know when to stop looking?

Is there a bounty-hunting community somewhere where a person could pay to have old PC games tracked down?

I recently discovered that Image-Line, famous for the FL Studio line of music software, released adult PC games for the European market during the 1990s.

I have the names of the developers, programmers, and the titles of the games - but that's it. Googling these articles of information sends me in an infinite loop of copied text.

No screenshots, references on indexed forums, or hits on abandonware sites.

How would a motivated anon in 2017 successfully recover Belgian CD-Rom titles from the 90s?

The company, which was apparently called Private, doesn't even seem to have an online footprint at all.

Are we just fucked on some PC games, even if the moved tens of thousands of units?

Scary, isn't it? How a piece of media can just be lost to the tides of time forever if no one cared enough to archive it somewhere.

Maybe on porn forums...?

>mfw I'm not surprised Image-Line did this, when they more recently released a plugin called "Gross Beat" (meaning "big dick" in French)

The company still exists though, the rights can be bought, etc.
