Does anyone else think FF4 was the worst Final Fantasy? It's so goddamn linear. I have no idea why it's so fondly remembered,

Dat final boss music theme

because it had nice characters

They barely had any personality.
Replaying this game right now. Comfy times are to be had.
Post some Legends.
WOOOOO DEBUG ROOOOM
Japanese Rockman 64 had the best cover-art.
>>3931867
Aw, you have no idea how much I adore that art. It evokes such a feeling of fun and adventure inside me... And the game lives up to those feelings too!
>she will never summon you to her side
>you will never be a noble Einherjar
>she will never Neibelung your Valesti
Anyway this game is greatespecially if you emulate and fast-forward through the cutscenes.
The time limit sucks balls and just encourages you to minmax
>>3933743
The time limit is irrelevant if you aren't bad at videogames.
Anyone else think the original SMB has better aesthetics than any of the other Marios? Its visual style is just so cool and appealing, whereas I dont find the other games anything special
>>3930890
I feel that was about 2/Doki Doki.
>>3930890
it's pretty good. i like smw's too. idk which I like more. theyre both great for different reasons.
im not really a fat of modern nintendo art style though. its just gotten way too kiddy now. smb was more trippy than anything else... it really looks like something out of an lsd dream
It's great, unique and distinctive, but I don't think it's necessarily the only good one, or that the other Mario games don't have at least equally merits. I think 2USA, 3 and World all have their own style as well, and each feels like a different take in the Mario universe, which is great (and it's kinda what held back the New series in non-retro times).
I personally like Super Mario World's aesthetics the most (which also inspired SML2 and Wario Land, the later being one of my all time favorite games).
I think I like SMB1 the least if I have to compare it to the other retro Marios, however, I don't think it's not cool and not appealing, because it is, and it's special, but I think so are the other games, and in many ways improved on SMB, simply due to programmers being better at doing graphical enhancements.
SMB1 is cool because it's the least cheery or cute one of the bunch, everything about the game is so industrial, lots of metal blocks everywhere, soil made out of blocks, construction-site objects like the floating platforms, borrowed from Donkey Kong.
It had its dreamy moments (sky bonus stages), but it was mostly very barren and simple, but masterfully done so, it looks good. It's just the one that appeals the least to me.
Aside from ebay and local thrift shops what places do you look to find your retro games without being scalped, /vr/? I want to start a full ps1 game collection without paying £50+ for non-rare vidya on ebay
also post collections if you want to share yours
flea markets, yard/garage/street sales, the occasional visit to gamestop's website or buybacks if I feel like gambling, and the occasional gun show
here's my piss1 collection I guess
I don't get that "full collection" mentality - most games were always crap to earn quick money.
Also lot of great games are JP-only, which means you'll inevitably need to use ebay. Unless you plan to visit japan and shop on otaku markets.
I'm trying to play this wonderful game in english, please help!
>inb4 emulators
It's simple.
You go out and buy this.
>>3930863
expensivee, I'd have to get real lucky to find that for cheap. It'd probably be easier for me to just learn Japanese
>>3930881
Well the only other way of playing it on a real console then would be to replace the maskrom on that japanese cart with an english one like it's explained here http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/cheaper-super-mario-rpg-cartridge/. That's how I made my NTSC copy of Kirby Super Star.
Of course this requires some parts + tools and actual competence with a soldering iron.
Is this game good?
I heard it's super hard..
pretty cool
combat is ass though
>>3930426
It's not hard. You can literally kill all the city guards at the start of the game, actually the game manual says you to do so, to get comfortable with controls.
But the game is great

RPG made outside Japan in a nutshell
I have a DKC2 cartridge with a few problems;
>label sticker is faded
Looks like I can buy a replacement sticker from retrogamecases, or is there a better alternative?
>save file occasionally deletes itself
I assume this is battery related? Perhaps a simple battery swap will fix this?
>cartridge is yellowing
Is it easy to just by a replacement surrogate cartridge case? Where from? I hear retrobrite makes the plastic brittle or something
>>3929963
>save file occasionally deletes itself
Typically when the battery is dying it usually doesn't stop all of a sudden. Sometimes they will still kindof work but not consistently. Sometimes when you boot it up only one save is gone. Replacing the battery should fix this. Also keep in mind that I have had carts that would wipe saves if they don't boot properly so make sure everything is very clean and will load before you try booting it.
>>3929967
okay, the cartridge is actually second hand, so I'm hoping there is no irreparable problem with it. Maybe it needs a clean

That's really up to you. Each vendor has their own way of printing labels. Be sure you find out what resolution they print at or find out before hand.
>save file occasionally deletes itself
>I assume this is battery related? Perhaps a simple battery swap will fix this?
It might be the battery or the S-ram finally dying. A battery is the right place to start. I know though that DKC2 is VERY finicky when it gets dirty and some times can trigger a copy protection screen that wipes the saved games.
>cartridge is yellowing
>Is it easy to just by a replacement surrogate cartridge case? Where from? I hear retrobrite makes the plastic brittle or something
Again it's up to you what you want to do. Retrobrite might take a few treatments but if you're getting a new label, it might just be better to get a new case as well and save the labor.
ドーン!
Since Warau Salesman got a new anime this season I figure now's a good time to check out the mega cd game.
For those of you that have watched a few episodes of the show, you were probably pissed off at the conclusion of some episodes. The special thing about this game is definitely how you can actually alter the ending to some of those stories!
Here's the rom: https://mega.nz/#!T4d01QzY!PKz3V7n1Q6iPflzffwDZbK1ab8jv4YudarwZZDMK0dM
I'd recommend a play. It's pretty cool. Like an interactive anime!
Note: I've been running into crashes. I'm not sure if this is the emulator's fault or if this is a bad dump.
>>3929287
Pretty interesting but its just three episodes with some QTEs occasionally. Its just okay honestly.
Though that's cool to hear it got a new series, it seemed pretty interrsting and had potential as a horror anime.
>>3929287
This game needs a translation bad!
>>3930095
The lack of subtitles makes it impossible. It'd need a dub and boy am I not looking forward to whoever wants to try and do an english Moguro voice.
Anyone have experience with putting together arcade sticks/cabinets? I want a true 4-way stick that connects via USB, but nobody sells one. They're all for fightfags.
The solution appears to be building one yourself from a stick, buttons, encoder board, and putting them inside a wooden box or something. It doesn't seem too hard but if anyone has done this I'd be interested to know how it went and if there's anything I should know before I start.
I was looking at the the GGG leaf pro stick.
I built a 4 player mame cabinet and trackball back near 12 years ago when I was 13. Just going off of forums and youtube tutorials. It's super easy to do a simple stick wiring with a usb card. Just read up a lot before you order parts and research as much as you can.
>>3929063
youtube tutorials for building mame cabinets didn't exist in 2005.
>>3928947
I'm fairly sure my Seimitsu LS-32 came with a 4-way restrictor plate. It's a trivial mod, just take it apart, unscrew the 8-way plate, screw it back on in the 4-way position.

Which videogames capture the closure of the 16b era? That is, a game that displays the tricks and state of the art, but just before the whole thing passed away in favor of 32b?
>>3922787
Literal cuckold
Vectorman 2, unless you consider things like SNES SFX chips as a definitive part of the era. I don't.
>>3922793
Vectorman looks like SHIT.
There has not nor ever will be an RPG as intellectually stimulating as Xenogears.
