I found Rockman 8 on the Saturn for a good price, is it playable for a Gaijin such as myself?
Also, import-friendly thread?
Yeah the story is horrible, you aren't missing much.
What about stuff like menus?

You should learn some basic kana or figure out by trial and error. No big deal.
Not sure if many people here will have played Hardwar (1998) but recently one of the original developers has been posting on a Hardwar forum about how he may do some updates for the 20th anniversary.
Personally I would like to see a Linux port or the source to be released but it would just be nice to know other people here have played it too.

really wanted to enjoy this, loved everything about it except actually playing it.
>>3965925
Summed up my feelings about the game pretty succinctly.
>>3965873
First time hearing about it, but from what I just read, it looks like a great game.
Will have to check it out in the future.
Just set up RetroPi for my 5 year old niece to get into gaming but the controllers that came with it are massive pieces of cheap shit.
Whats a good set of third party USB controllers I could use? 8Bitdo stuff seems recommended, but so does buffalo. Normally I would just use Wii Classic controller through bluetooth but I want something plug and play for a 5 year old to use.
8bitdo really put me off when I looked up their website and it was in ching-chong English. It's like they're yet another sketchy Hong-Kong knockoff company.
I haven't used one myself, but I've heard nothing but bad things about 8bitdo's dpads.

Which do you prefer?
Probably X-Men vs. Street Fighter, it's the only one I get to play against human opponents often. I do love the announcer in MSHvSF, and I like playing as the Darkstalkers characters in MvC2.
All kusoge.
MvC1 because 2 is a nigger fest. The others aren't even worth mentioning.

I hope it was free, seeing as Nintendo is for babies and man children who run away when they see blood because they are immature babyfags and can't handle a deep, dark, serious game like I can. Sega and Sony had games that reflected the inner darkness of my soul from having two Christmases since my parents were divorced, while Nintendo did kiddy shit because nintentoddlers are fucking babies who never had to rough it in high school like real people, like me, who had to deal with bullies and preppy douchebags since they didn't understand my real power...
I just picked up and modded a Wii as an all in one retro system. I'm pretty impressed except that I get diagonal lines showing over the picture when I play via component on any LCD.
Is the Wii video out just naturally a bit grainy or is there something wrong with it?
A close up of a black portion of the screen
The Wii is not an HD system.
Also get a CRT; the Wii supports 240p.
>>3964230
I know that it's not HD, but I wasn't expecting so much noise.
Also, I have a crt and hate it.
So... ive had a Snes PCB for making repor s for almost a year, and i want to use it for making a cart for a friend on his birthday.
He likes ebatmups, and from what i know he only has Capt Commando and Turtles in Time.
I can fit up to two 27c322 chips on the board OR 4 games in total.
So far ive chosen Iron Commando and King of Dragons which will take one of the chips.
So could you suggest me some good rare or unknown beatmups for the Snes?
Ninja Warriors is one of the best beat em ups on the SNES.
I'd also suggest Sonic Blast Man. It's a bit slow and too hard for its own good, but I love that game and the character (which I knew from the arcade game, which is a real punching game). It's an average beat 'em up but that's not bad.
There are a few japan-only games that were good but can't remember their names now.
>>3964224
>here are a few japan-only games that were good but can't remember their names now.
Iron Commando is one of them, my friend talks about it everytime we play toghether.
Thanks for the suggestion anon.

I'm not even going to pretend I'm capable of fixing it. I'll just smile and say "Good luck, John!"
Hey /vr/, I have a bit of an odd one for you.
For reasons I can't describe, I just woke up today with a strong urge to play some live action Japanese FMV games. I don't know much Japanese. And I didn't even realize they existed until I googled on this whim. However, I came up pretty short. I found a VN with some live action cutscenes and amazing music (Another Mind):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVtM33gUKD0
And another one, which seems to be a proper live action FMV action game, complete with awful CGI and a ridiculous story, called ALIVE.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia5GlOzOaV0
So my question is, what live action Japanese FMV games are out there? Are there any that someone who understands only basic japanese can play? And are any on Japanese PSN? It would be even cooler if I could play it on my vita.
That ALIVE game is so cool I watched almost all of it on YouTube last year, really long but made me wish for eng subs. Dont even need gameplay, it fits right in with those sci fi action b-movies you'd find at Blockbuster.
>>3963149
If it's possible to rip the video files and edit them back in with subtitles, I would love to help with a fan translation effort.
Because who else would translate a PS1 live action FMV game?
I tried looking up 実写げー, but I'm not sure it's the right term. What else could these be called?
Are there any good video games that deal with magic in a realistic way?
i.e., having to gather herbs and perform rituals and stuff?
Some(?) Ultima games require reagents, but I don't think they used rituals
>>3963118
>magic in a realistic way
Nigger. Nothing realistic 'bout magic.
>magic
>realistic
Why do I get the feeling this is Alqaeda Trannyleaf posting without a tripcode?
What are some of your favorite retro first person dungeon crawlers? Turn-based, real time, grid-based, free movement, doesn't matter, just post 'em.
A personal favorite of mine is The Legacy: Realm of Terror. It's a horror themed dungeon crawler that manages to have a genuinely unsettling atmosphere and some good puzzles. Despite being marketed as a game based on Edgar Allan Poe's works, it's definitely got way more influence from Lovecraft, and I think it captures the tone of his works really well, a lot better in fact than many games based directly upon his fiction.
