>Have gigabytes of retro vidya on my hdd.
>I dont even play, sometimes for a few minutes but thats it.
The vidya collection is important to me because its my anchor, its my place in this world, I dont have anything or anyone else.
Thats it, the only thing I know and the only I have, the glue that keeps me together, my familiar place in this alien world.
>I dont even enjoy playing vidya anymore, I just hope there will be a day where I pick up lion king or something just sit there and play it like there is nothing else in the world gnawing at me.
>Admitting vidya dont bring me happiness made me sad, if not vidya what else is in my life apart fear, anxiety, hopelessness, loneliness, debt, no hope for a better tomorrow, not even chance at it.
Just wish for at least a day I will be able to kickback and enjoy some vidya

I am not alone like this, am I?

Man FFTA has a cool idea for a tutorial level. A snowball fight is a good way to teach you the basics of the game isnt it?
>>
>>3967296
Yeap, just like real life you think its still tutorial but there is a stone inside snowball.

And just like real life in how you can gang up on the class bitch and try to knock him out with snowballs

Does anybody here speedrun any retro games?

I watched a video of four speedrunners racing in Super Mario World last night and it was... surprisingly cool.

I'd like to try Super Mario Bros. 3 speedrunning. How do I get started on it beyond just "try and beat the game fast?" I mean, I know that's part of it but it seems like there's a broad gap between being good at a game and being insanely fast at beating it.

try to copy stuff you see in a run and practice/memorize it. if a certain part is too hard, make something up yourself that you can do until you're good enough for the faster strats. go to http://www.speedrun.com/smb3/forum and ask questions. join the discord, make friends in the community, people are usually eager to help.

getting into speedrunning is pretty easy.

I've been trying to play through retro JRPGs in chronological order, but I've hit a snag on an MSX2 game called Dark Siders, an RPG that only just predates Dragon Quest and seems to have some light eroge elements.

Either I'm a total retard, or it just won't emulate properly, because I can't get past the title screen. I'm betting on the former.

If anyone here has ever played this (or wants to play it), and knows how to get it to run, I'd love to know more about it since it has absolutely zero documentation I can find either on the English or Japanese net.

Rather, the title is actually just "Dark Sider", singular.
I messed that.
>>
If you're using an emulator to play it, try a different emulator? Maybe make sure the rom is not read-only (it might be trying to create a new save file in the disk image? I don't know. Not that familiar with MSX emulation)

If I can read Japanese, is the Kanzenban of Code Veronica the best SD version to play? I like the idea of having my health on the VMU but if the later releases added yet more content and weren't just ports of that edition then I'm not sure which I want to prioritize.
>>
>>3957779

it would be the best dreamcast version to play for sure. from what i understand it's essentially code veronica X on the DC.
>>
>best grill

For the retro games: Jill in Nemesis.

In the entire franchise: delicious blonde Jill booty queen in 5.

Dragon Quest Thread

We're too slow of a general to be on /vg/. This has been discussed multiple times, and always ends the same way.

The only Dragon Quest game I'm playing right now is Dragon Quest V, which is retro, but I think everyone in these threads have played it, so I don't really have anything new to add about it. Dragon Quest XI is always going to get brought up in these topics no matter what, because people are excited for a new mainline console Dragon Quest game.
>>
>>3917217
You can't just bend the rules on one board because you don't fit in another.
>>
>>3917221
Relax. I'd say 90% of discussion here is retro. The 10% that isn't retro shouldn't destroy these threads. If the first post wasn't about XI, you wouldn't even be here complaining right now.

Redpill me on Ecco the Dolphin, /vr/.

Legitimately one of the most insane but absolutely brilliant games I've ever heard of.

>aliens
>time travel
>ancient beings as old as the ocean
>flying future dolphins

Where did this insanity come from?

Also if emulation isn't an option for me what's the best way to play?

This image has always fascinated me. It's clearly an edit of a real photo of people posing in front of a helicopter. They then edited it to to make them appear to be the STARS members, and added the serial number to the heli.

After 20 years, has no one found the original? My feeling is that it's central/south American police or army.

>>
The helicopter looks real but their pants look painted.
>>
>>3978049

They would have traced over the people. The background and Heli were left untouched.
>>
>>3978041
It was probably staff members or something. Though I wouldn't know for sure, since I've never actually looked into an actual picture.

Are there any older games you love but are afraid to play again? Afraid that it's really crap and you're blinded by nostalgia.
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
No, I've already played and revisited all games from my childhood, also, in the end, all games I really liked from childhood are still good, nostalgia can only go so far Also, nostalgia is wrongly used these days, you don't like an old game from your childhood because you have "nostalgia", you get nostalgia because you see a game from your childhood that you haven't seen since you were a kid, that's what causes the nostalgia effect. If you already remember a game, it's not nostalgia anymore. Nostalgia needs that kind of surprise or "Ohhh I didn't remember this!" factor
>>
I'm terrified that Beyond the Beyond is not as good as I remember it.
>>
I still enjoy the games I liked as a kid
I also don't enjoy the games I disliked as a kid, but I'm more forgiving for their flaws and try to see something positive in them
being afraid of playing games is silly

I never got into pet raising myself. But you should raise them as far as you enjoy it. In retrospect, I think that is the kind of perspective that duly fleshes out Legend of Mana as an experience.

Def agree with this although Cybernoid should be played on 8-bit micros. The NES port was absolute ass
>>
the NES port of Galaga is actually pretty good and cheap, if you don't mind old-old school.

Similarly, 1942 and 1943 are fun.

Also, all retro SHMUPS are affordable thanks to the magic of ~ emulation ~
