What are your favorite homebrew games or demos, /vr/?
Have you tried your hand at making homebrew?

The closest you can probably get to that is playing King's Field in an emulator with texture smoothing.

I'm trying to play Gimmick off of an everdrive N8 and it seems to be missing the extra sound channels. I'm playing it on an original famicom.

It was my understanding that the sound channels work just fine on these.

>It was my understanding that the sound channels work just fine on these.
They do. But many different sound chips were used, all of them with different capabilities. The additional audio chips have to be emulated by the Everdrive, and not all of them are supported yet.

I think I remember reading that a recent firmware update allows for Sunsoft 5B audio, but I could be wrong.

Gimmick has extra sound chips. Guess your evercuck can't reproduce em.

Who plays more video games? People who buy physical and play on real hardware, or people who get digital and play on emulators or flashcarts?

This. Emulatorfags don't really play games, they hastily "test out" Roms with cheats and savestates then immediately move on to the next Rom in the list.

Do like an RPG or something. Even if something is hard you can just make your numbers go bigger until it's easy

Megaman 5 if you insist on going actiony

LucasArts graphic adventures might be a safe bet too. There's no failure state so even when you feel stuck you can just rub bits together until something fits.

We are two of soul, duderino. I'm shit at games too. watching Arino beat his head against the brick wall of game difficulty has inspired me somehow and now I can enjoy games I'm bad at much more

My Xenogears data got wiped when my PS3 died.

I'd really hate to play it all over again.

Is there any way to download a save file of where I was at in the game? If that is possible please tell me how to do it.

if you got a ps3 with cfw you might be able to retrieve the saves. PS1 saves are not encrypted on the ps3.
>>
>>3976839
I don't know what cfw is. And my PS3 is long gone.

I think it might be easier to download the save on my PC and play it on emulator but I don't even know if that is possible?

goddamn this game was so engaging, even if the controls and puzzles were pretty average/ unimpressive

just goes to show a successful game developer shouldn't be a shut-in autist who only plays other video games like everyone is nowadays, but should take inspiration from other media

unbelievably overrated game

I'm kinda confused about GB palletes, since I never owned the thing. The "real" colors look pretty crappy for most games, so I want some variety in there.
I know that GBC offered several color setups that you could switch between. However, I don't know where the game-specific palletes that you can choose in Gambatte come from. Are these "official" from somewhere, or made by the community?

I'm not familiar with that emulator. Does it choose a palette from one of 12? Or does it choose some other palette?

If it is the former, that is standard GBC behavior. The GBC has some sort of small ROM that contained information on the library of published GB games and appropriate palettes to choose for each.

If it is the latter, it the colors must have been chosen by the author of the emulator or the community.

It uses a different one for each game (pic related). Most of them look nice, but I'm curious where they come from
I first thought it might be the Super Game Boy enhancements, but after googling it those seem like different colors. Someone put effort into this stuff.
>>
>>3976115
OK, I see what you're talking about. Check out this article on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Color#Color_palettes_used_for_original_Game_Boy_games

Basically, in addition to the palettes in >>3976072, the GBC/GBA has some built-in palettes for certain games. If you insert Super Mario Land and don't press anything while the game is booting up, you get that special palette which makes the sprites red and the background blue. This is also why Pokemon Red's graphics look mostly red on a GBC, while Pokemon Blue looks mostly blue, despite them technically being monochrome GB games.

Gambatte uses those same built-in palettes. So yes, they're official.

Why are Sony Trinitrons such a common recommended CRT line? I know they're nice quality, I had one, but there are people who are so devoted to them and they get talked about so much that sometimes I feel like it's some sort of weird cult.

I don't mean to offend anybody, if you like them, that's fine, but it's not often that I'll see people reccomend a general line of CRT brands as much as I'll hear people talk about Sony.

It's probably the most recommendable, is all.
>>
>>3975367

maybe because Sony TV were common as fuck in the early 90's, and all those models have good quality image/sound. I have a kv-19ts20 and it still works despite multiple falls. Sadly is so old it only has coxial input, so is in my cellar collecting dust. I use a small Goldstar 14" TV. But it has some audio problems in video mode, i have to increase the volume when im playing games.
>>
>>3975367
They're pretty good quality, pretty reliable, and pretty common; so they get recommended.
