i just got an n64, any good games for it?
>>3986904
no sorry should have got a PSX
If you're only just now getting a new retro console and have zilch of a game collection, the answer is always "buy a flashcart."
>>3986910
Seriously. If you haven't started a collection yet, don't. Get a flash cart. Same experience, way cheaper, way more convenient.
This is always the answer.
ITT: nostalgic vidya music

Do you know of any games aside from pic related that are like ethereal fairy tales in video game form? Please no bully.
I've been in to astyanax lately, there's an annoying/helpful fairy too.
>>3986683
Ethereal fairy tale is an odd way to describe Ocarina of Time...
If you can be more specific...

He probably means how magical and mysterious the universe in OOT is. The goddesses, the triforce, the sacred realm. You only hear of those things, but you (Link) never sees any of that himself. I always pondered about the Sacred Realm in OOT when I was a kid, wondered how it was, if it was even a physical place.
Do you think that Sega could of still been a bigger game company if they focused more on their home consoles than their arcades? Their cabinets where dominating the 90's and it was only until recently I played a ton of them growing up. Games like Daytona USA (ARC) were fantastic too play/look at that I was bummed it had a pretty lackluster home port (I know power between arcades > home port is different) but I feel it would of benefited more if there was more put in the home ports.
Maybe I'm just misinformed why they really did that but this has always baffled me.
Daytona on Saturn is OK, I don't think any of the 5th gen systems could have managed Daytona closely to the arcade version, none until Dreamcast.
Still you got games like VF2 and Sega Rally that were just better ports.
I think Sega focusing only on their consoles would have held back their potential. No home system could have managed Virtua Fighter in 1993, not even the Neo Geo, or any consumer computer available at the time. It was a real arcade experience, you just couldn't get that at your home unless you were legit rich.
Sega was great at home systems too, the real reason for Sega sinking was the PlayStation, not any silly "sega of japan were evil and were boycotting the company" rumors.
Sega was struggling with a strong opponent.
>>3986421
Dreamcast was practically identical to Naomi arcade hardware with arcade perfect ports of AM2 titles out the ass and that didn't save it. Ditto for Genesis, based on the successful System 16. The main reason Saturn's ports are lackluster by comparison is that its sister arcade hardware the Model 1 wasn't super prolific although I personally love Wing War and Star Wars Arcade was huge, I guess it must have been some licensing issue that kept it from coming to Saturn - and lack of link-play for Wing War maybe?
>>3986421
Arcades were just as profitable as home consoles back then and also the only field Sega was really the king at, that's like advocating for post Snes Nintendo to drop out of the handheld market.
Seriously though, this is goddamn amazing. Find a copy if you can. SkyNet version lets you run the original game at a higher resolution!
You can't say no to that face...
>>3986408
You don't know that there was an actual STALKER game in the 90s? That series is older than you think
lol

haha epic

More like a false prophet but close enough, I guess.
One of the things I love about games is when there's this fully-realized setting with all these little details and you can tell it's something the creator spent a LOT of time on, probably even independently of working on the game.
Britannia in the Ultima games (especially the Enlightenment trilogy) just has so much love put into it. It feels like a real place. And back in the day there were the maps and such that came with the games. I think one even came with an ankh.
I adore the Wing Commander series with its focus on different ship types and the preferences of the various pilots, as well as the ongoing war and its implications for people, and all the little things they did that probably didn't sell them a single extra copy but ensured that those did play the game would come back to it again and again. Like the ranking system in the first game, or the flavorful-as-fuck manuals.
Spiderweb Software is another great example. One dude makes those games all by his lonesome (he hires artists and musicians; his wife handles the website and business side of things) and the places feel so real despite the graphics not being incredible.
I love Fallout, but it doesn't quite hit me the same way; I'm not sure why.
Anyway, what are some other good /vr/ games where you get to experience something rich and filled with detail, and where the more time you invest the more there is to get out of it? especially if one person or a very small group created it.
Albion is such a lovingly crafted RPG. I think it should be a lot more well known than it is.

OP here. It's on my to-play list. I'll move it to the top. Thanks for the recommendation.

Planescape: Torment? There's a helluva lotta world-building in there. I know it's based on a pre-existing setting, but I think the game ended up reflexively changing things about that setting because of how involved the developers were.
Were the Might & Magic series as involved in world-building? Each game had new geography, but there was a meta-setting that the games were collectively embedded in.
I remember the Soulblazer/ Illusion of Gaia/ Terranigma series had very detailed worlds that you would explore. Well, Soulblazer not so much, but it was a fun action game. the other two were much more epic.
I need help. I used to have a demo game when I was a kid, but broke the cd accidentally and no matter how hard I try I can't find that game.
It was a mecha game, battle scenes were anime like, but turn based. Game was 2d from birds eye view, you move icon of your character like chess on map, when you encounter another robot, fight scene starts. There was a generic battle music at fight scene. You can't intervene the fight but you can select which move your robot should do.
Shortcut of the game had robot helmet(I think it was blue or gray), and had a long name but one word. It's an unpopular game as I can't find it since years.
Sounds like every SD Gundam game ever
>>3986035
it wasnt a SD Gundam game tho, that's the problem

try r/tipofmyjoystick on reddit

Hell yeah.

As a concept they made my lil weiner hard as a kid. I didn't understand or even know about copyright and how that might impede making cross over games. I always wanted them to put Duke Nukem into other games

sega saturn discussion
can I get a quick rundown on this guys?
Playing Shining The Holy Ark right now as my intro to the series, is 3 a good follow up once I've finished?
>>3985861
I think so. Probably helps that Holy Ark is actually a prequel to 3.
>says she wants to take me for a ride
>doesn't say where to
>>3985671
> you'll never play an ultimate MvsC 2D compilation with not only every character but also every stage instead of 3D OC bullshit, helpers, variable team sizes and combinable gameplay elements from the entire series
Dude it's a metaphor

Nerf the you-know-whos
I've been looking for a game i played a long time ago but cant find it. It was a 2d shooter platformer probably from the 1990.
I think you were playing as a kind of duke nukem guy. american badass with huge guns.
Think you were killing robots, not sure about that.In the game i played you moved a lot. The places were big with many levels (i mean vertical levels). Also there was an helicopter attacking you at one point. Anyone knows what that could be?
>>3985667
Oh i also remember there were cameras watching you that you could destroy. And the antigonist was watching you with them.
I thought we already had a "lost connections" kinda thread
Helps if you can remember the platform. Just sounds like Duke Nukem 2 to be honest
maybe not the helicopter bit

contra 3?
A cartridge release for the 1997 SFC Stellaview (satellite broadcast download) game Kaizou Ningen Shubibinman Zero (also known as BS Shubibinman or BS Shockman) just appeared for pre-order on Amazon Japan.
Seems to be from the same people behind those recent 8-bit Music Power games for Famicom.
Looks like it's part of that Masaya/Extreme licensing stuff that's been going on lately. They put some misc stuff on Wii U VC and Project EGG this year.

Is it as bad as I've heard? I'm convinced that the segments I've seen online are shopped because I refuse to believe that anyone could publish anything in that state

Does this man look like he could put out a decent book?

Where can a fella like me also see these so-called segments?

OP started a thread and abandoned it in under 5 minutes. Wow. What's that saying they have about OP? Always being a... something?
