Besides Livia-A-Live and (I guess) Shenmue what are some other martial arts RPGs out there?
Hybrid Heaven mixes 3D fighting gameplay and wrestling in a blend of real time action with menu-based commands with a deep leveling up, upgrade and customization system.
It also has elements of third-person shooting and action-adventure while navigating the levels. It's not your average JRPG.
Super Chinese
Tengai Makyo
Unfortunately I think the closest you're going to get to one all about martial arts is the wrestler guy from Chrono Cross, Pokemon, and unarmed moves in SaGa games.
Any idea what he's been up to?
I've seen him in at cons clinging on to what little celebrity he has left. It's really sad.

He moved to live in Boy George's pants permanently. Don't expect to see him again.
Which one /vr/?

Thief for the fun robberies
I usually go fighter, having to defeat at least one of every type of enemy in the game to get 100% quest completion rating is really satisfying for me.

I'm surprised they didn't call the fighter "hitty guy", or the thief "kleptomancer"
Bombproof Edition
This is the thread in which we discuss comfy portable game systems, such as the GameBoy and GameGear.
Think of this kind of like a Game Boy general, except handheld systems from any manufacturer can be discussed, be they from Nintendo, Sega, Atari or any obscure off brand, as well as LCD games. Portable consoles like the Turbo Express and Nomad can be discussed as hardware, though game discussion belongs in their respective consoles' threads. Discussing clones are also welcome so long as the other criteria are met.
Discussion of handheld repairs, mods and aftermarket add-ons are also welcome, though for more in-depth repair advice the repair general is recommended.
Handheld emulator boxes (Dingoo, JXD S7800B, modded PSP) are a gray area and should be discussed only in regards to their use for the emulation of retro games.

I would just like to say that I found Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land for GameBoy at a Goodwill recently, game only. It was in the kitchen appliances section in a basket mixed in with, like, egg beaters and hand mixers. But I don't have a GameBoy to play it on. My original one from 1990 is in my parents house somewhere, I think, but I've never found it yet. Just a PSA. Look in places besides the Media section in Goodwill for games and consoles. You never know. Oh, it was 2 dollars, btw.
>>3990680
Someone probably stashed it there to pick up on sale day or something.
It's a well known tactic used by the terminally cheap.
>>3990690
That seems reasonable to me. You're probably right.
It's fanservice. The character is telling the player that she's available as a waifu.
>>3990270
But I want a responsible, career-minded waifu.
>>3990283
>not wanting him to breed you too
lmao faggot
How was it?
I tried the first part here http://laingame.net/ and liked it. Might play the rest one of these days.
>>3990182
This. Assumed it would just follow the amine but it doesn't and is darker.
>>3990463
>implying SEL isn't already dark
What's the appeal of 80s PC games? I've always saw them as inferior to arcade and console games. The whole decade really only has a handful of standouts.
It was a time of creation, during which new game mechanics and even genres kept emerging.
The vast majority of games from the 90's which are praised for their innovation, you can find those "innovations" in 80's computer games.
Random example, NPCs with a schedule, which do different things depending on which day it is or the time of the day. Everyone says it was revolutionnary when Zelda did it on N64, but you can find in La AbadÃa del Crimen in 1987.
Also, before Alone In The Dark, before even Sweet Home, there was Zombi, the first true survival horror (just not named like that at the time obviously), inspired by the movie Dawn Of The Dead. But noone cares and claims "Sweet Home was the first survival horror" even then it isn't even one, because Sweet Home was on NES, and Zombi on PC.
Worst even, Ubisoft rebooted Zombi, came out at the launch of the WiiU, but even that didn't help get the original known better. It was on computers, nobody cares.

You're talking about pretty simple games none of which are genre defining. That why they're forgotten.
>>3990149
Console and arcade games are what was really simple. You couldn't do any complex games due to lack of storage, saving or controls that required more than a handful buttons.
Many classic games were made for computers first and later ported to consoles or even arcades like Choplifter. Everyone with a computer could make and distribute games for them and many classic developers started with computer games in the 80s.
Post a retro game you beat recently. I beat Boogerman last night. Short but decent.
Overall really fun but a major thing i don't like about it is it's one of those games where you feel like as you are running to the right you feel really close to the oncoming shit and things just pop out of nowhere and hit you. Even when you take it slow things off screen sometimes hit you and it's like ghosts and goblins so you get hit twice ur done unless u upgrade yo shit! so sucks to lose progress to some bullshit and it happens sometimes even while going slow.
Beat Streets of Rage 2 for the first time ever just two days ago! Normal difficulty, Axel and had to use a continue in the middle of the Mr X fight.
Still I feel pretty good. I'm not good at games so it feels like an achievement. Gonna try for a different character/no continues later on

>it's one of those games where you feel like as you are running to the right you feel really close to the oncoming shit and things just pop out of nowhere and hit you
Uhh, slow down I guess? I made the mistake of playing the SNES port first so I can agree to some extent
Original MD game sounds way better and has a wider field of play
>>3990073
That game is better on the Genesis
Just beat Maximum Carnage yesterday

>>3989963
Can't fix what's ugly by default, the game.
Why is this game so good?
Also, what's your preferred route? I finally beat the game with RRLR today, so I'll try some other ones.
I still relish the time I played the deluxe cockpit Outrun at Funspot in NH.
The hills are pretty bad.
More of a Super Hang-on guy
What can I expect?
Are they seriously claiming copyright for something they didn't license?
>>3989660
Oh that's just silly
>>3989660
didn't even notice lol, what fucking retards
This game is fucking horrible
only fun in the game is throw the knife.
>>3989607
Get the knife
Get the knife
Get the knife
And finally
Get the knife as it is the only way to even try to beat the game.
This is my favorite retro game
So I ask, why anon? Why do you feel this way?
did you own any piece of merch related to retro games as a kid? Still have it?
Share with us.

I purchased the original soundtrack to pokemon the first movie at a flea market last month. If that counts.
>>3989490
The one with the M2M song? Sweet.
>>3989491
yes actually. I replaced the jewel case with a new one because the one I got was kicked to shit. Still though not bad for a dollar.
My shelf is also to smaller for gamecases the likes of xbox or ps2 so things just about this size are pretty perfect.
What would I need to remake a game in 3D? I can program but I have no experience in game making. I can draw and I sort of know how 3D modelling works as I've had a few experience in Blender.
I'm a fan of the Lunar series and I want to remake Eternal Blue. There will be significant rewrites as I don't think the story was on-par with Silver Star; it really felt like a forced sequel. Game will be non-profit, free.
>>3989478
There might be some legal trouble, and as you don't have the source code, you're gonna have to magic number a lot of shit. I would say go for it if you really, really, really want to do it but don't do it as a "fun project".
>>3989478
Here's an idea for free, instead of remaking someone else's work, why not try creating your own, you talentless piece of uncreative shit.
>>3989478
>What would I need to remake a game in 3D?
a lot of spare time. with infinite time, you would be able to read manuals of popular game engines, watch youtube guides, google and search stuff on stackoverflow if you're stuck, and slowly piece this thing together
my question though is, why? you should just make your own game that just plays like your favorite. you can get in a lot of trouble these days messing around with IPs that aren't yours. If you make your game you can sell it too. Be smart and original like the Freedom Planet guy
What are you're preferred ways to play less than legal games on disc based systems? I'm wanting to play PS1 games and I can' t decide on the best method on playing "back-ups".
Also general flashcart and other back-up methods thread.

Emulation on a CRT monitor with a dualshock 3. For PS2 and OG Xbox I have modded consoles.
I've been looking into a modchip for my Playstation, though I also need to learn how to solder.
Until then, I use the Goldfinger swap trick with backups to varied, usually poor results.
