Could this be one of the most criminally underrated games of all time?
AVGN parroting retards don't recognize the pure gaming Ludo that is Silver Surfer
That soundtrack, Jesus Christ.
Name a NES game with better music, I dare you.No expansion audio allowed.
Is it just me who can't bring themselves to enjoy games where levelling up is required to actually stand a chance?
I can't play games like Diablo, or modern titles like Disgaea, because while playing, I always get to a point where I know for a fact that I am playing well and making the right choices in combat, but because I didn't kill some arbitrary amount of monsters to make the numbers next to my stats bigger, I'm not allowed to progress.
I just don't see the appeal of a system like this. If you want to make a game where a character gets stronger constantly, why not do what most games like that do, and slowly introduce new abilities, or powerups at key points in the story? That way, you can tailor the game to always be fair, instead of either being hard to the point of being impossible, or easy to the point of having no risk of death, merely because of the numbers next to your characters stats.
The gameplay in these games isn't skill based in the slightest because of this. It's entirely focused around how much you played, and not how well you played. I think it's silly. Even games like Warframe have this issue, where enemies a few levels higher just insta kill you and take no damage from your attacks.
At least in Dark Souls you can beat the game just fine at level 1, because skill actually matters, but so many older games don't let you even stand a chance.
Yeah it's just you
Also, some might argue that, the point is that your skill as a player doesn't matter, but the skill of your in game character does, hence the role playing.
To that I ask, how is that fun?
If I chose my character stats at the start of the game and they just stuck at that level, I could understand the role playing potential and replay value, but as it is, your forced into grinding enemies and just doing the same thing over and over to make numbers bigger in order to progress or learn things. It's not because you unconvered some secret that made you smarter, or that you found some weapon through doing a puzzle that made you stronger, it's literally just grinding until you have enough XP to level up.
I like grinding, it's almost relaxing for me.
/vr/ what do you think of silent bill 1 emulated like this? would you play it?
Do what you want (you will anyway)
Why don't you emulate my dick up your ass?
>silent bill
rpgs where you can name your party? also theres minimal dialogue of party members. examples: dq1-3, ff1-3, saga 1-3, mother 1-2, metal max
also who else used to put their crush as a party member?

I named Frog Kunt in Chrono Cross one time because I thought it was a funny word but didn't know what it was. My friend borrowed it and he told some other kids and they thought I was a weirdo. I've used the default names ever since.
SMT 1 lets you name your MC, his bitch and the alignment heroes.
>>3992038
First time playthrough is always with default names, second go around is where you start to fuck around.
>Famitsu gave the game 26 points out of 40.
Are Famitsu just plebs? This game fucking rocks.

Famitsu is the IGN of Japan. They give scores on reputation alone. They're a joke of a publication.
Even the Japs looked down on 2D games with SNES like graphics.
https://web.archive.org/web/20000604182722/http://www.new.co.jp:80/
Their old website. Archive didn't save a few pages. Are they just gone forever?
They ran a score contest. Are these scores any good? Prizes were iMac G3 for first, minidis players for 2-3.
I'm about to launch Xenogears. Never played it. Now is my chance.
Did you guys like this game? Anything I should know before I get my feet wet?
>>3991904
Its a pretty good game. The camera angles are pretty bad and disc 2 is a mess. But it has great music, really fun gameplay and an interesting story. I'd say most of the hype is nostalgia, but if you like psx rpgs, you should really dig Xenogears.
I guess if you should know anything, its that there are a decent bit of missable items throughout the game. Most of them don't matter, but if you're a completionist it might perturb you later on finding out.
>>3991928
I'm not too anal about getting everything. I just want to enjoy it.
>>3991928
>hype
>hype
Hype can't be nostalgia. Hype is something marketing and media does.

This is the #5 highest rated Mega Drive game.
What's your experience with the Langrisser series?
>>3991640
>This is the #5 highest rated Mega Drive game
Too bad it has a superior PC Engine CD version
>>3991648
Der Langrisser has one of the best branching paths I've ever seem, puts even wrpgs to shame, but I still like the light path route better in this one.
>>3991678
>puts even wrpgs
Hahahaha, no.
Hey /vr/,
Not sure what board to post this in, but I have a situation going on. As of right now both me and my mother are going through issues with depression during our own respective lives. We do not live together, but I come over almost weekly to help her around her and her husband's home. I want to be able to have something memorable for her and when I was younger I would read out loud text-based games which she found amusing. During her recent bout of suicidal thoughts I was unable to see her so I sent her shitty quality videos of me playing Super Mario RPG (as we are both Mario fans) to her as I read the dialogue in different voices. It actually helped quite a bit.
Long story short I would like to be able to record the footage and but over it, but I have no fucking idea how. Any advice where to start? Plenty of Lets's Play fags can do it but I just want to figure out how I can at least record emulator footage properly.
Any help is appreciated anons.
I'm just going to apologize in advance for all the shitty responses you are most likely about to get.
>>3991298
Use fraps, record audio with audacity, add commentary to video with windows movie maker.
I dont know of anything besides Camtasia which is only free for 30 days. You're probably better off asking the technology board.
Hope everything turns out well for the both of you.
>play old squaresoft game that was never released in the west that everyone says is good
>its a mediocre slog
I really need to stop falling for this.
>have bad taste
>blame others for it
Treasure of the Rudras is a game with cool ideas, but it's not great. It's just got some interesting systems in it to go along with its very nicely animated sprites. I don't think I've ever seen anybody praise it super highly.
You should try Live A Live, OP. It's got way more variety.
>>3991245
I really wanted to like it because the mantra system is great, and I love the sprites, but the story is too bloated and the pacing is terrible. Too many walls of exposition that tell me a bunch of shit I already learned in another scenario. May just be the translation though. I dunno. Maybe I'm just burned out on games with random encounters after all these years.
>You should try Live A Live
I tried it out a long time ago but never could get into it. Might give it another shot.
>console action RPG with isometric view
Who thought this was a good idea?
Really now, I suck at this, any tips other than "practice, practice, practice"?
Isometric view with controls that still follow top-down directions. Garbage.
>>3991074
>Who thought this was a good idea?
A person who looked at the Mega Drive D-pad and realised it was practically made for isometric games.
> any tips other than "practice,
Yeah, a lot of impossible looking jumps are much easier than they look. You'll try to do crazy twists and turns in the air only to eventually find that what you needed to do was jump in a straight line.
>>3991104
How to spot somebody who played with a keyboard.
>>3991104
It works fine, just takes some time to adjust to it. Its different, sure, but its not broken by any means.
Its a real solid overlooked title that just needs a little bit of investment. Once you get the hang of that, its really solid.
Love the title.
What's the fungiest NES bootleg
>>3990858
>fungiest
I'm getting to old for this underage millennial/gen Y slang shit.
>>3990861
yeah, wtf is fungiest, the fun and ugliest?? it would be ok if the fuckin words made sense.
>>3990894
He wants the game that has the greatest degree of relation to mushrooms
This game is such a comfy game, gotta love Pallet Town.
>>3990696
the entire aesthetic of the game is fucking cozy, gen 2 has its own feel, and gens 3 onward swap out the comfy for borderline anime characters and graphics you could see in any other game. Most Pokemon "fans" nowadays only like waifushit and competitive play, it makes me sick
I never could get into this series, it's so boring. I feel like a contrarian whenever people talk about GameBoy RPGs and I like a bunch except Pokemon.
>>3990720
That's because you are boring.

I used to watch it before heading out to school in the mornings -- had to wake up an hour earlier to manage it.
>>3990423
I totally would've watched this if I were a bit older than 7 months. I miss when there were television shows, like this one, that felt as if they were made for kids and by kids.
>>3990423
Man. Video Power wasn't on in my area. At least I don't think it was, I never saw it until the internet age. But I do remember watching Stunt Dawgs and Power Rangers before school. Remember kids, Sizzle's so hot she's even got a flame.
>>3990423
Man, I wish there was like a dedicated twitch stream just for old 90s cartoons and shit. Would be great for background noise and stuff.
Was the pussy worth it?
I was surprised by how hot she was. I'm willing to put up with a lot when it comes to good animation.
