What is the best way to run this game? I tried running it in DOSbox but couldn't get the sound to work. How is the Sega CD version?
DOS version - install.exe will create dune.bat or comm.bat
make sure bat file has "SDB2207" (for SoundBlaster)
mine looks like this -
@echo off
logo
duneprg ENG VGA SDB2207 EMS 386

Buy a 386DX.

>DOSbox
Anything but that. Don't waste your time with the SCD or Amiga version though.
Is this map helpful?
>>4014859
I guess.
Personally I don't think AOL is the kind of game that needs an overworld map.
It's only Death Mountain and the dungeons that I get lost in.
>>4014859
Yeah I guess if you're <5 or a retard. Seriously this is one of the easiest and least complicated overworld games.
It helps knowing where the invisible entrance tiles are hidden.
I'm looking for an old school RPG kinda like Earthbound or maybe a Pokemon rom hack to play? Doesn't necessarily have to be old school, could be fairly recent.
any good suggestions?
>like Earthbound or maybe a Pokemon
So terrible and bug ridden?
Lost Magic
>>4014449
preferably
>System Shock gets high resolution and mouselook patches
>this game is forever stuck with even worse controls and GBA-tier resolution using only a quarter of the screen
IT'S NOT FUCKING FAIR. When will this be corrected?
https://github.com/hankmorgan/UnderworldExporter
It's getting there, but there's a lot of codebase to cover, so it takes time.

I'm a faggot and used an UW2 screenshot by mistake, but it's not much better.

That's pretty nuts, crazy how Unity can be used.
Anyone here want to have a retro puyo puyo thread? I've been playing a lot of Tsu recently, but i can't into chaining well enough yet to pass the 2nd or 3rd floor. Talk about strategy and cute girls.
I started this series first on the gear game.
I practiced until I created many combo.
But CPU alway break my combo easily.
>about to execute a 5+ chain
>garbage puyo falls in the exact column (out of the 6) that I really really didn't want it to
Can we have a recent pickups thread?
besides ALttP what should I pickup next for the SNES?
>PALshit
A trashcan and some trashbags.
>2017
>buying PAL shit
It's okay OP. These people can't handle the idea that you'd grab something that used to be sold regularly. One day they might figure out that some people just enjoy the games and they'll try to add something to the conversation instead of bitching about someone else's collection.
Anyone have .cdi files of the dreamcast sakura taisen games? I can only find .gdi files

Bump
/vr/ isn't for pirating requests.
>>4012397
Just get the original games, series had huge sales, so all games are 200-500 JPY.

What RetroArch cores and settings do you use?
Especially for the ps1 because I need to get mine workkng properly
NES: Nestopia
SNES: bsnes-mercury-balanced
N64: ParaLLEl but I tend to not emulate N64
Sega 8-bit/16-bit: Genesis Plus GX
32x: PicoDrive
Saturn: I've used both the Yabause core and Mednafen core, not sure which is better desu.
TG-16/TC-CD: Mednafen fast
PS1: Mednafen software. Hardware fixed perspective correction and upscales beyond 2x w/o slowing down your machine but I don't care about those features personally.
>>4008914
Protip: don't use retroarch. Mesen, higan, fusion and mednefan are all you need.
>>4008960
Not if you want good video/audio sync.

The first rpg I ever played, also still one of my favourites.
Rented it. Never beat it. Still meaning to get around to it one of these days.
This game was ugly as fuck even back in the day.
>>4022756
>Ugly
The Battle graphics are way above most of ps1 rpgs at the time. Heck, you can see your equipment changing throughout the course of the game.
Does that retro game store near you have your favorite game on sale /vr/?
>>4021714
No, I bought it and now all they have is shitty sports games, unless you wanna pay $50 for a copy of Pokemon Blue with half the label missing.
said store doesn't exist
>>4021714
I wouldn't know. I have a retro game store walking distance to me but the guys who run it are such elitist and provide the worst service I have ever experienced that I refuse to go in there. Instead I choose to only buy from the stores that are like an hour away but actually will acknowledge my existence if I ask a question.
So I'm going to play through the original Final Fantasy for the NES. What can I expect? I remember trying to play this a couple of years ago but getting stuck early on. Apparently you were supposed to grind low-level monsters for a while which never occurred to me. Will I need a strategy guide to get through it considering its age, or does it explain itself well?
>>4019937
>Will I need a strategy guide to get through it considering its age
If you're used to hand holding I guess you could have problems. But do try to think for yourself. NPCs will give you hints about where to go next, and new areas become explorable in a probably obvious order most of the time. Nothing is very obscure in Final Fantasy, unlike some other games from the time. What not to expect: cutscenes outright telling you 'go to spooky place, get thing'.
As for grinding... I dunno about you being 'supposed to grind', but you're not likely to need to grind more than once in the game, around Elfland and the Marsh Cave. Even then, it's more about learning to control your resources in dungeons than it is gaining experience points.
Always keep a stock of 99 potions
>>4019937
Don't grind at the beginning. You'll end up wasting all your gold in the first town.
If you're new to JRPGs from this era, you might need a guide from time to time. The NPCs can be vague, and you're meant to explore. That can be daunting if you aren't used to it.
me too
well you know zelda is kindof a faggot haha
In the past I felt as if ambiguity was a big part of 90s video games, especially RPGs and MMOs.
I see modern games try to replicate 'ambiguity' in by being vague to the point of misleading, implicating incredibly unneeded difficult mechanics or just poorly designed landscapes.
What I miss from retro games is the purposeful, yet well thought out vagueness. The real types of ambiguity that felt as if you were piecing part of a story or an objective together.
Pic related: A game I believed that used ambiguity beautifully to grow it's experience and immersion.
Can anyone else suggest some other games that have this ambiguous feeling?
Ironically enough you worded that post so vaguely I don't understand what you mean.
>>4016523
I thought the same, and i don't think UO is a good example of a retro experience.
There was absolutely nothing good about being "ambiguous" in games like EQ where players were forced to trade items that represented hundreds of hours of effort to NPCs at random in an attempt to progress a quest that might not have even been fully implemented.
