This, it's why Segafags are always 2edgy4me.
Rich kids with intact, loving families had Nintendo consoles growing up. Children of divorced parents had Sega, and eventually moved onto Sony

Imo, Human was a very creative company. I think they were one of the best developers on Super Famicom.
>>4024448
They also did some board game RPG thing that was actually surprisingly decent, and a street ball/basketball game that was OK. IIRC I think they also did Kabuki Quantum Fighter on NES.
Genuinely my favorite dev on SNES and almost inarguably THE most underrated developer EVER.
Exact did one of the best 3D games on the Sharp X68K computer, Geograph Seal.
On PS1 they did Jumping Flash, which is often cited as one of the first 3D platformer games, predating Super Mario 64, as well as the sequel Jumping Flash 2 in 1996, the next year they did Ghost in the Shell also for PS1, a very unique game that mixes homing-missile shooting and walking on walls and ceiling.
These guys got some really great ideas in terms of 3D games, but they dissolved after GITS. Different memebers went on to work on different projects within Sony Computer Entertainment, one of them did Robbit Mon Dieu (basically Jumping Flash 3, except it wasn't as good as the first 2 games).

I'm just a regular shlub who likes to play spaceship shootin' games in my spare time. How does your personal best compare to mine?
First up: Dodonpachi
Score: 6,699,550
This is the Saturn version, arcade mode, no adjustments to difficulty or continues or anything
Next up we've got Border Down. Don't know why I went for the lazy "A_ _" initials for my personal best, but there you go.
Score: 21,886,767
This is on a Dreamcast, arcade mode, standard everything as far as options/variables go.
As an aside, the initial screen music is comfy af: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_IJ3gIVZHw
Doing Thunder Force 4 next. The Genesis cart doesn't actually save high scores when you power down the system, so this screenshot is from the Saturn version. Even then this might not be my absolute best since my Saturn lacked a battery for a good portion of the time I was playing the game heavily, but at least the one time I did play it after I got the battery it was an All Clear so its probably close to my best.
Since its the Saturn version, its also a little harder because there's no slowdown. Again, all stock as far as options go - just powered on the game and pressed start.
Score: 1,402,760
This is another one with really chill initial entering music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuZ9EhSA6xk
Last up for now is Salamander.
I've beaten the NES version of Life Force a few times, but I dont have my NES hooked up and I assume it probably doesn't save high scores anyway, so here is the Saturn port of Salamander. Haven't beaten this bastard yet, but its not for lack of trying. In my high score run, I got to the last hori level.
Standard settings - 1 credit, 3 lives, whatever the stock difficulty is.
Score: 537,900
I might try to dredge up my other Gradius high scores, they aren't anything to brag about but I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything.
What is the ps1 equivalent to Zelda?
in terms of legacy and how popular it was at the time? FF7. in terms of gameplay? nothing. Alundra is a zelda clone but is more like the 2D ones. no ps1 games did 3D the way mario/zelda did really.
I do prefer the psx library now but n64 was great too
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
That depends on what you mean by "equivalent."
Post certain levels or parts in games that you remember being unsettling, creepy or weird that may or may have not been intentional.
that's actually pretty funny desu

The hole is a bit too big though, and the interior looks ike something out of Life Force or X-Multiply.

Sup, boys. Im from UkraineCлaвa Укpaїнi!and I apologize for my English.
I want to make (next lazy vaporware) a single-player oldschool shooter where the plot appears in 1998 year. Idea: stylize the game for the games of that yearUnreal, HL and Q2. About engines: Q2 immediately disappeared - the game is planned for large open spaces, but idTech2 is not friendly with them. The choice remained between the UE and the Goldsrc. Or maybe finding a modern platform (Unity?) and worsening picture.
In short:
1. What advise to choose? Previously I worked a bit in the old game editors, in 3DMax work well.
2. Where can find more information about "next-gen technology'98"? I need a competent list of innovations, technologies and so on.
I'm not sure why you'd want to pick UE or Goldsource over one of the limit increasing ports for id tech 2. Something like Arcane Dimensions is impossible in goldsource.
apology for poor english

Also Quake 1 and 2 support trenchbroom.
So I'm quite a fan of my Saturn but I've run into a wall with my library. That is, a pay wall, where all the games I want to play are far too expensive.
So I've been looking into methods for playing burned discs or otherwise pirating games but there seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions on the best method for this. I'm looking to spend as little as possible and to endanger my laser as little as possible also.
Are there options to load from USB or anything? What mod-chips might I need? What's the cheapest option?
>>4012102
>endanger my laser as little
Bull unless someones comes with proof (that's isn't in word alone)
anyway, you really have 2 choices
1. modchip it
2. use Pseudosaturn Kai
>>4012102
three options, in order of desirability:
>rhea/phoebe (expensive, very hard-to-get due to moderately high demand for such a low production product)
replaces the disc drive completely with an SD slot
>modchip
directly boots burned games, leaves the cart slot open
>pseudosaturn (cheapest, easiest, doesn't work with a small handful of games)
replaces the firmware on an Action Replay, boots burned games

Right? Super Mario Galaxy is so much better. They should have made the camera more like the one in Super Mario Galaxy.
Also the graphics are so bad! IT should look more like GTAV! And you should be able to shoot hookers.
I can't believe Nintendo made this gay kiddy game instead of a badass awesome game.
Also, why doesn't it have motion controls? Nintendo really dropped the ball.
>>4010963
SMG is so much better though
Shut up.
What is the most ultimate, official, /vr/-approved CRT look when it comes to shaders? I've been trying Lottes and Geom, and while they look cool for a while, I feel like there might be something more ultimate, official and /vr/-approved out there. What's terrible is that after playing with these for a considerable amount of time, going back to the sharp pixellated look I used to love just doesn't feel right either.I don't have room for a real CRT either.
Never gonna give you up edition
This is the thread in which we discuss comfy portable game systems, such as the GameBoy and GameGear.
Think of this kind of like a Game Boy general, except handheld systems from any manufacturer can be discussed, be they from Nintendo, Sega, Atari or any obscure off brand, as well as LCD games. Portable consoles like the Turbo Express and Nomad can be discussed as hardware, though game discussion belongs in their respective consoles' threads. Discussing clones are also welcome so long as the other criteria are met.
Discussion of handheld repairs, mods and aftermarket add-ons are also welcome, though for more in-depth repair advice the repair general is recommended.
Handheld emulator boxes (Dingoo, JXD S7800B, modded PSP, etc.) are a gray area. When they are discussed it should be in regards to their use for the emulation of retro games.
Thinking about making some pastebins to put in /rhh/ OPs going forward. Like an FAQ for each major system, including a list of their top games. Open for ideas.
Nothing comfy about that piece of shit Game Gear. Neo Geo Pocket or Wonderswan were far comfier.

GG was the comfiest to play in bed, by far. Even a good external light for the Gameboy was generally not very pleasant to deal with.
By modern standards the GG's screen is pretty ugly but in the 90s there wasn't anything better to compare it to.
I've been playing Tetris DX on computer VS mode. How the hell do I win on medium difficulty?
Hope they don't mind I make a quick deposit.

What are your favorite tables?
Is it better to buy seasons or just individual tables?
>>3922720
>Is it better to buy seasons or just individual tables?
Depends on which tables you like. You should download the free versions and decide what you really like, then do the math to figure out the savings. I will advise against buying the PRO versions, as the added cost isn't worth the little bit of extras you get.
Favorite table is Creature from the Black Lagoon, by the way.
>>3922880
I bought the first two seasons and then I bought Fish Tales and The Addams Family.
I like lots of the tables: Creature from the Black Lagoon, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, Elvira and the Party Monsters, Scared Stiff, Attack from Mars, Cactus Canyon, Theatre of Magic, Champion Pub, and Cue Ball Wizard. I am not a big fan of the really old ones. I bought Fish Tales and Addams Family because of nostalgia since I played them a bit when I was a kid.
Have quite a few favorites from this: Addams Family, Black Knight 2000, Twilight Zone, Scared Stiff, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Centaur, Cirqus Voltaire
Love the theming of Star Trek TNG, but I can never aim for shit on that board.
