> Trigger: simple, somewhat childish story with broad and universal themes of heroism, friendship and adventure
> Cross: muh dreams / muh existential crises / muh ambiguous and or faulty memories / muh alternate dimensions / muh identity / muh fate
Is there a more spot-on example of the thematical shift that jrps underwent in the late nineties than the Chrono series?
Change is bad, I want games to stay the same forever. Hurr.
"Chrono Cross sucks because it's not Chrono Trigger" is one of the worst memes that has ever plagued the gaming imaginarium.
Are you implying that Trigger didn't have the same themes?
Pretty much every character in that story has an existential crisis or has a crisis of indenity, is it any coincidence that over half the characters assume different names? Marle, Frog, Robo, Magus? Trigger fans are the worst at even knowing what their "favorite" game is about
Lunar 2 or Phantasy Star IV?
Vote for the better game.

What the hell kind of sophies choice shit is this.
No, sir. I will not play your game. Instead I will be content in knowing I have multiple fantastic games to play.
I bid you good day.
>>4046619
Really? Lunar 2 is god tier status, PS IV is good tier status.
Phantasy Star IV is better as a game but Lunar is a more beautiful multimedia experience. Which you personally prefer is all you.
I'm finishing up this game and was looking for some other point and click adventure games from this era late 90's-early 00's. Any recommendations besides the obvious Myst. Prefer something puzzle or story driven.
Running a windows 98 VM so compatibility on older games will not be an issue.
I haven't played it but it looks right in your alley. I remember seeing it on the shelves back in the day.
The Longest Journey. Make sure you pirate it though, don't give Tornquist any money.
What the fuck happened to Konami during and after the 32-bit era, /vr/?
>Castlevania genre-shifted into some crappy RPG/adventure spin-offs
>Contra got outsourced to some terrible European developers
>they gave up completely on their beat 'em up scene
>Rocket Knight was forgotten completely
Literally the only franchise that made it out unscathed was Gradius/Parodius.
They went from being arcade focused developers to home console focused.
>>4045951
Rocket Knight? ROCKET KNIGHT?!? WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT ROCKET KNIGHT!!! WHAT ABOUT FROGGER? WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT GAME, HUH?!?
>tfw they have the Hudson library
Is the Neo Geo Pocket Color the most underrated platform?
Even among my friends who are pretty knowledgeable about games most haven't even heard about it let only played it. Yet it has a great lineup of some real hidden gems and far better graphics than the GBC
>Great lineup
>around 10 gimped beat-em-ups
>>4045695
twas grteat 20years ago, balled like a pro with it,dont forget to member the cool joystick
>>4045695
Aside from a decent semi port of sonic 2 and a bunch of watered down fighting games, the library was literally nonexistent
> "When we've dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much," says Ryan. "That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?"

They're smart? The PS4 demographic only cares about if their machine can stream and when the next CoD and GTA is coming out.
>publishers and console makers want you to believe that video games constantly get better so you keep buying their shit at the high price
... and you just realized that now? You're late.
Also noone cares. We all know this.
if ps2 never had it then nobody would be bitching
Yo I'm new to this board but I haven't seen any Twisted Metal talk, 2 was always my favorite, thoughts?

Shut up.

Youtuber reddit parrotor thinks 5th gen made 3d.

tm: head on is a direct sequel to 2 story wise but it's not retro
why are all western dev fighting games such fuckin garbage, /vr/?
>>4044080
right, mk sucks
Weapon Lord was good, Killer Instinct was good. And in modern era the West actually surpassed Japan.
What is the best Super Mario Word rom hack? In my opinion, it is "This Hack needs a Name". Every world is unique (candy world, Hell world, a mountain world with lightning featuring the Yoshis Island theme), the switch palaces are all different colors, yet it feels incredibly similar to the original while also feeling completely fresh and new. Not to mention the level design is actually fucking good. Hit me with some solid hacks, guys.
Super Demo World, for me.
Any recommended hacks where the difficulty is around the same level as the original rather than balls to the wall hard?
I like "JUMP".
It's difficult but not kaizo difficult.
>tfw
Is it true that japanese N64 controller had a better grease that kept the stick in good shape better than the USA/EU ones?
Anyway OP, just open the controller and make the routine maintenance and apply the grease yourself.
I don't recommend buying the GC-style sticks, they're not as precise as the original sticks.
so happy I've never had that problem
>>4043781
>not having played Mario Party
You missed out.
Commandos was the shit. Everybody liked that game. What is the closest thing to Commandos today? I don't even know what the genre is.
non-retro recommendations here?Silent Storm
The genre is isometric tactical strategy game
>>4042872
says 2004 on the tin. Why don't we have them today?
>>4042957
I do not question the ways of our Lord, I just play the games.
Hi all, what's a good portable console for emulators nowadays? Had a look around and a lot still recommend the psp, which would be great, unless there's other things out there with more of a unified interface
psp go
Check the archive, we have this thread weekly.

God really? I'm usually lurking on teh random board to notice!
So, this is really puzzling me, after reading al the RGB thread on /vr/..
Why america was stucked for many years with terrible CRT and awful cables?
>>4040436
composite is how the developers intended it
Because RGB is near irrelevant for a TV. Especially in a 1st world country like America were using a TV as a computer monitor was rare. Nothing really used it.
Svideo was the best relevant cable.
>>4040442
>Because RGB is near irrelevant for a TV
Yeah, was only used by console, VCR and DVD player
REALLY irrelevant
Why did Egg Man not use Metal Sonic to just destroy Sonic from the Start? Why dick around for 9 stages? Was he unsure of his capabilities?
Because it's a video game.
Also, that's mecha sonic, ackchuyally.
Why didn't Willy just pit all 8 robot masters at once against Megaman.
You just don't get it, Scott.

This is bullshit. I'm at Ultimecia, have 6/8 functions unlocked (all except Command and Draw), lvl 11-14. When I spam Zell's limit breaks, everything's fine until Griever uses that suicide GF attack and wipes my entire party. What do?
Not to mention, I don't get to fucking choose who my party members are when Ultimecia decides to pick 3/6 of my party members at random.
I'm at a lost here... Are the other phases even harder than Griever?
>>4039905
>lvl 11-14.
She won't have enough MP to cast spells and you will win by a landslide.
>>4039905
If you have Lionheart you should be able to win with just Squall and his limit break, games broken as fuck if you want it to be OP
