Unpopular opinions thread

I'll start
>Doom is boring and never looked good. It doesn't appear 3D and the enemies look and act like a joke.
>Sonic the Hedghog is repatative, easy and not fun. b but it's fast!! so what it's just a run through game that doesn't get better as you progress.
>the MS was superior to the NES, and Mario aside, had the better titles.
>The SNES had better visuals and sound than the MD but the MD could handle more action on screen. Other than that it's only about titles.

>Doom is boring and never looked good. It doesn't appear 3D and the enemies look and act like a joke.
>like a joke

It's a video game. Honestly its apparent to me you weren't even alive at the time. I get not liking it but...how were these graphics a joke at the time? They were anything but. Grats on outing yourself, retard.

>Sonic the Hedghog is repatative, easy and not fun. b but it's fast!! so what it's just a run through game that doesn't get better as you progress.

Errors with this sentence aside, you can boil down every game to what they are at their core to make them sound like shit. This criticism of platformers is nothing new and doesn't really hold any merit. If you just hold right and only right you aren't going to clear the game.

>the MS was superior to the NES, and Mario aside, had the better titles.

kek, ok hipster-fag.

>The SNES had better visuals and sound than the MD but the MD could handle more action on screen. Other than that it's only about titles

That isn't an unpopular opinion. It's the common consensus and anybody perpetuating that dead Console War is just doing it for nostalgic value. Most people give the edge to SEGA for the SEGA Arcade games/Treasure games and to Nintendo for the 1st party lineup and Square Soft RPGS/Capcom games but in the end they both have great libraries.

shitty start for a shitty thread. great.

So, since the last thread died pretty fast I've gotta ask, is it just /vr/ getting faster and faster or did someone sage the thread?

I'm actually curious, too, it was on, like, page 7 or 8 last I looked a few hours ago, and usual thread speed doesn't result in dropping off that quickly.

It's possible someone was bumping old threads past it all of a sudden but I wasn't really watching the catalog.

I don't really know how it died so fast, I just came back home a hour ago, turned on the PC and it was dead, luckily I can keep an eye on it in the weekend so it's no big deal.

Still, I wonder if it's just /vr/ getting faster or some problem with 4chan as a whole.

A lot of the problem is people born much past 1990. They're the ones pushing for 6thgen and coming into retro games with a view based on them playing modern games.

Also the main demographic for eceleb shit.

I wish I could have met the guy who put that cabinet together. I had never seen anything like it and haven't since. Campground arcades were always my favorite part of "roughing it".

My family had a seasonal lot on a campground in Minnesota. They had a pool table, a T2 pinball table, a NeoGeo cab and cruising USA in the lodge. Then there was a separate building that had a shit load of games in it. SF2 CE, MK2, nba jam, and a bunch more I can't remember. That place was pretty awesome back in the day. The whole campground was pretty huge too. I think its still there, but prob different owners.

Looking for a little insight here. I'm a huge fan of Shining Force (both 1 and 2), I've played them both many times.

Has anyone here played both Shining Force and the Fire Emblem series? If so, which did you prefer? What did you like about Fire Emblem that you didn't like about Shining Force, and what did you like about Shining Force that you didn't like about Fire Emblem? What do they have in common? How do they differ?

I'm considering trying out Fire Emblem, but I don't want to sink 20+ hours into a game if it's not going to be something that I'll like.

Thanks in advance, /vr/.

I've liked SF since I was young but only recently started dabbling in FE. I guess some (all?) FE games have permadeath, and by my reckoning are a little bit more challenging. But overall they definitely scratch the SF itch, and I think that if they don't do it for you, you'll at least realize it before losing 20+ hours of your life.
>>
>>4051624

I like SF far more than FE for the characters and the tone.

If you're looking for a similar game to SF, you're better off playing FEDA: Emblem of Justice on the SNES.

Basically the only differences between them is the fact the PS version has load times while the SNES version doesn't. Also the SNES version isn't officially translated but emulation and flash carts are an option.

Nice, thanks
>>
PS1 and SNES are virtually identical, if you can play the SNES version with a patch since load times are reduced.

>>>4051331
>SNES version doesn't have load times
Untrue, they are significantly less than the PS1 version, but still exist.

The real option is PSP vs. SNES. PSP version has significant changes while keeping it mostly the same.

Big parts of the MSX games are impossible without a guide, so play those until you get really stuck then look up whatever you need to do. MGS is pretty easy, but you'll have to look up Meryl's codex frequency since you don't have the actual CD case.

Okay, so I've come to accept the following as optimal configurations: USA Tvs.

SNES: Svideo/CRT
N64: Svideo/CRT
Wii: Wii mode in Wii U/HDMI/LED
WiiU: HDMI/LED

Can't decide on the Gamecube though. General consensus is Gamecube emu on Wii console with Component isn't as good as native Gamecube via its rare component Cables. Game cube also came along at a unique time when things were just starting to transition from SD to HD. also taking into consideration that many GC games are 4:3. So, what is optimal here?

Component/CRT
Component/LED

I suppose this saem question could be posed for the PS2 hardware

Anybody used one of these Gert VGA666 adapters? I bought one and hooked it up to the GPIO pins on my RPi3b, put the requisite lines in the config file, and... nothing. No signal out at all. Disappointing to say the least.

>>
>>4049478
I'm gonna bust out the multimeter and check the pins when I get back from work today, but I cannot imagine what I could have messed up...

>put the connector firmly on the GPIO pins
>delete references to HDMI out on the config.txt
>insert the three or so lines that enable VGA out into the config.txt

That's seriously it. I'm hoping somebody else here has used one of these and can tell me if I've somehow missed a step.

Keeping the thread alive, I've had great success with composite out through the 3.5mm jack with a camcorder cable. Only issue is weird rainbow patterns appearing on jagged edges. Something to do with the colorburst settings.
>>
>>4049484
What kind of monitor are you trying to connect it with? Consumer TV or Computer CRT? Few CRT TVs support a VGA signal, it has a different frequency than Composite/RGB/etc.

>Only issue is weird rainbow patterns appearing on jagged edges.
Common Composite artifact, nothing to do with your Pi.
