I used to play this game a lot on mame.
It's pretty fun, though it gets old quick. I was disappointed that they never made a sequel.
Post memories, observations about Time Killers.
They made a sequel called Blood Storm -

Not a sequel, spiritual successor!
>>4041501
It's the same damn gimmick lol
Still a terribly playing edge-lord fighter.
What is strange is that WeaponLord was also a "too-edgy-4-me" game, but plays so well it still has a following today.
i got some cheap broken controllers and the only one i hvent been able to fix is this one.
I guess someone tried to clean it but instead of using just alcohol they actually scratched the black contact pads on the board.
Is there a way to fix this?
>>4038779
>>4038786
is that a yes or a no?
im thinking about coating the exposed board with some conductive paste, but im not sure if it will damage the rubber pads with normal use, which i guess it will.
If im not able to fix it since the pad isnt worki ng at all, i think ill use use it for making an arcade stick. always wanted to make one for my Snes.
>>4038797
>i think ill use use it for making an arcade stick. always wanted to make one for my Snes.
good thinking, youre gonna waste the valud of an old controller on some conductive ink at the risk of the end result being still shit, might as well just use the circuit for something else
Finders/Keepers T H R E A D.
So yesterday while walking home i found this 21" KV-21T1D CRT next to a pile of bulk trash. And i am thinking to myself, this is mine, don't care if it doesn't turn on anymore it will be good for parts.
So i carried the little japanese fucker home, hooked an MD up, switched it on and rejoiced.
Everything is working fine. So now i have 3 Sony CRT's. One Hi Black, one Super Trinitron (this little fucker) and one FD Trinitron.
One never can have enough Sony CRT's. Also finders/keepers thread. What did /vr/ find lately?
nothing to be honest

This, but it was a nice find OP.

I've been wondering, what's the common technique for looking up words in Kana only games? How do you differentiate between same sounding homonyms?
>>4038740
Scene context, sentence context, and consideration of the target age group. If it's a game for kids, it's easy enough to assume they're not going to be throwing around a lot of difficult or uncommon words.
>>4038740
Common sense, generally.
Honestly, kana only is a poor choice for a first game, those titles only existed because of screen and memory limitations. You're much better off with slightly later children's titles that have furigana. Games aren't a great choice for learning, especially early on. When you reach an intermediate level with a few VNs under your belt, you'll find stuff like this completely trivial.
>>4038753
>You're much better off with slightly later children's titles that have furigana.
I've never found a retro game that uses furigana, not even in the 32bit generation.
I want to play Raiden II and DX, but have no idea what emulator to use. The rom I found doesn't work with the emulators I have.
It's been years since I've done arcade emulation, and the last version of MAME i used for that was from a shmup pack that came from here a few years ago. Can you help me out?
>>4038417
Use the version of mame that matches your romset.
>>4038439
The what now? How do I figure out which version of mame matches the romset I got?
>>4038417

What's a turn based strategy game on GOG that has short matches, like 30 minutes to an hour long? I love Civ and MoO and HoMM like anyone else but I need something fun like that I can play a full game of in short bursts.
I recommend Fantasy General, it's one of my all time favourites.
Worms, maybe?
>>4038059
you''l laugh, but some FLASH games would fill this really nicely
50 years
>50 years is a coffebreak turn-based strategy.

>I started to make this game after have played in Civilization and other “big” turn-based strategies a lot. They a perfect games, but sometimes they are too long. So I want to make a short TBS, but with all this things like nation choosing at the start and town management.
(its acutally html5 / javascript game, so you could run it on your phone, in any browser)
also civ-like, a dumb/silly one, but a good time waster
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/351605
simpler stratego with AI
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/443735
i also like this one as a full statego that you can play vs someone in person using a single device, if you have flash installed on your android

Saw a Sega Saturn NTSC 1st Model for $20 buck at a local yard sale.
Any reason I should go back and grab it? Came with two controllers, light gun, 4 games (Mortal Kombat 2, Daytona USA, GP Moto, sports game can't remember the title)
>>4038028
I'll pay you double that plus shipping to send it to me.
Or you know, buy it if you wanna play those games? Most of the good Saturn stuff is expensive as shit (none of those games are valuable) so you'll need to be willing to mod the system or shell out big bucks if you wanna play most of the other good games.
>>4038028
>>4038034
In all honestly I would do that if I knew it was gonna go to a good home. Hate to see it get go to the garbage can or the Christian thrift store. If it's still there yet I'll grab it.
ITT, post games/series you like that everyone else seems to hate.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was my favorite fighting game as a kid, way better than more "serious" fighting games like Street Fighter 2 or Fatal Fury/KOF/Garou/whatever. I'd never play MK competitively or anything but it's just fun as hell. Raiden was my main. UT-SAMAGAMAHAAAA!
>>4037384
I always thought I had weird taste til I came to 4chan. Thinking Links Awakening is the best Zelda, for example, is at least somewhat mainstream here.
>>4037394
I've never seen anyone say LA was the best. It's always one big OoT/LttP circlejerk.
>>4037384
I played the hell out of UMK3 on my Genesis, at the time I hadn't played any fighting game with that much content. Its great.
I think people are turning around on MK, partially because of the new games but I'm seeing more people look back on the 2d ones more fondly.
Has anyone ever bought a defective Nintendo, Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis from an official store in the 80s/90s?
Where would someone buy these products, how much were they worth? Where can I find a website of the top selling stores that sold these 3 products, I'm very interested in this era of gaming.
Nintendo Employee Training Video (1991)

>>4037232
By the SNES/Genesis era, you could walk into almost any store and buy one. Liquor stores sold consoles, department stores had kiosks, fucking gas stations sold them sometimes.
>>4037232
>Has anyone ever bought a defective Nintendo, Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis from an official store in the 80s/90s?
No i was too young back then to remember anything my earliest memories go back to 2001/2002 and it depends on what you mean by official store as well.
When it comes to defective products it mostly is a game of chance it sure has happened but i do not know the rates of it and when it happened i'm damn sure both the companies fixes the mistake
>Where would someone buy these products, how much were they worth?
How do you know it is defective from the beginning and not due to accident?
>Where can I find a website of the top selling stores that sold these 3 products, I'm very interested in this era of gaming.
Walmart had video games, toys r us had video games, kb toys had video games, kmart had video games, sears had video games etc.
>>4037398
I remember supermarkets having them even when it was far past the 90's (back in the PS2 slim days).
So you're asking how much a broken console is worth?
Not much, unless it's an easy fix then just what someone will give you for parts.
Could anyone in possession of a Snake's Revenge Tiger Handheld plese give me a high quality picture of the printed background, the surrounding artwork, and another picture of the game started up so the UI is visible. The reason I am asking is because I want to attempt to recreate the game in GameMaker Studio to further familiarise myself with the engine before I get to work on making a real game.
Thank you.
>>4034685
This is like the least likely request I thought I'd ever see on /vr/
kudos for your project though
Hol' up, hol' up. Is you sayin Snake's Revenge Tiger Handheld aint a real game??
Are there any kind of MAME styled emulators for Tiger games? I am sure gaming historians would want to preserve such games.
>>4034685
Cool project, bumping for a rare request.
>ywn get another Castlevania game with top tier sprite art and perfect level design again
something perfected in your eyes doesn't need a sequel.
You probably will, but it will be fan made or a spiritual successor and everyone will hate it even if it was better than your favorite Castlevania game.
I mean, it looks nice, but I never liked how Simon looks like a soccer player. Better than the PS1 bishounen I guess.
Lets talk about these games.
Best to worst
>bonk's revenge
>super genjin 2
>bonk 3
>bonk 1
>super bonk
extra
>zonk
if there are others I haven't played them.
these games are all fucking cigarette commercials for kids minus the cigarettes and I hate them
all of them are fucking donkey kong country, except not as charming, but retaining the shallow and repetitive game structure with worthless collectables and bonus levels and other stupid shit
>>4066398
to be fair bonk is probably better if only for not having literal hundreds of spinning barrels in it
>>4066398
>these games are all fucking cigarette commercials for kids minus the cigarettes and I hate them
Wut. Explain.
game mechanics that ruined the game for you
trying to wall jump in super metroid in a snes emulator for android is the most exasperating shit ever. i swear
>>4066150
You've ruined the game for yourself by trying to play an action game with touchscreen controls.
>>4066150
It is legit finicky. Replayed it recently thinking I would be able to do it easy now that I'm older but nope.
Doesn't ruin the entire game for me though. Don't even think you need it to finish the game in the first place.
>touchscreen control
>emulators
>in an action game
The only one to blame is yourself, OP.
>>4065743
make snake's hitbox smaller, remove sidescrolling sections
suddenly it's a good game
tell a genie to make the game itself as good as the OST
>>4065767
Both things that could be done in a romhack.
But I don't see any hacks online, weird.
SNES component. Better or whatever?
>>4065410
Does it also work with N64 and GCN?
>>4065614
No, dumb summer poster. N64 doesn't output RGB or component signals, and GC outputs a digital RGB signal which needs a DAC to turn into component, so only official cables work on it.
>>4065650
Well excuse me, Mr. high and mighty.
The SNES doesn't output fucking component either, so I was curious if it the converter chip in the cable would also work with the other consoles.
And what if I RGB modded my N64?
Would it work then?
All I know is that OP posted a pic of a component cable for the SNES.
