I'm so exhausted by all the fighting over what game is best in the same fucking series.

Can you people ever just circlejerk over your favorites without starting small wars with each other?

>decide I want to play some PS1 and PS2 classics
>get a FMCB modded PS2 with HDD
>try to use OPL to open some PS1 games
>discover that OPL only is designed for playing PS2 games
>discover that the only way to launch PS1 games on a modded PS2 is by using an emulator called popstarter
>an emulator
>on a console
What is even the point? You might as well just use your PC at that point. Does anyone know why there aren't any applications that allow you to play PS1 games on the actual hardware?

>Does anyone know why there aren't any applications that allow you to play PS1 games on the actual hardware?
Maybe because a modded PS1 is 20$.
>>
You can also use psxlauncher with a case mod that lets you swap discs. This is easier to accomplish on the slim and you have to burn the games
>>
>>4058842
Having a complete collection of PS1 you can simply launch from a harddisk would be ideal tho.

Any idea what this is about? Got an e-mail from Atari linking to the site earlier today.

Was thinking it's just another Atari Flashback, but it has an email address for developers who are interested in developing for the new platform at the bottom to request info. Is Atari getting back into the console game? I kind of doubt they have the money or tech to compete...

Sounds silly imo.. Steam has very good versions of most Atari games it would just be a novelty item trying to cash in on Nintendo success

So where is the video link?

I cannot find anything for Ataribox on YouTube.

This is nothing new, back in the day they pulled all Mario roms for all sites and it even turned into a meme in the rom hacking scene how noobs would constantly ask for the Mario World rom. I don't play shittendo games anyway so fuck it. Not a big loss.

Previous thread >>3992971

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

What was the reason for Nintendo to release different versions of the console in Japan and west?
Didn't they do the same with SNES as well?
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I'm pretty sure in the case of the NES they made it look that way because it was positing itself as an 'entertainment system' rather than a video games machine, and as such they wanted it to look more akin to a VCR or something.
>>
>>4066248
For the NES it's pretty simple, thanks to the crash nobody wanted to buy a game console so they changed the design, added ROB and the lightgun, and marketed it as a toy.

For the SNES as far as I know it's just stylistic differences to try to appeal to the tastes of the region.
>>
Mostly trying to appeal to Ameriburgers. Nintendo had Mattel design the NES with the purpose of making it look like a "serious" piece of electronic hardware like a VCR hence the way the carts are inserted like video tapes.

They also did it to control of regional imports by completely changing the game cart shape.

Pretty much the same reason for the SNES but no longer feeling the need to make it like a VCR

Man, check all of that OUT. I'm happy with the final product but gosh, the first version of the game is a specimen of itself. Completely different main characters, completely different POWs... What do you think, /vr/? I wish we could play a build of it or something.

What to say, I'm really glad they added Marco and Tarma because as they were there was too much generic soldiers with different uniform color.

>teleroboxer gets shit on for being a virtual boy game
>arms has the same gameplay and is loved by everyone
Why does everyone forget about teleroboxer, or just magically conclude that it's shit for being on the virtual boy? It's a very fun game. and before a dumbshit janitor flags this as not retro, I'm only using arms to illustrate how obscure teleroboxer is
28 posts and 5 images submitted.

virtual boy didn't sell very well. most people only know that it exists and couldn't name a single game for it.

When did people bash on Teleroboxer?
I've heard it's one of the few good games of the VB
>>
>>4065762
It's mostly dumb retro hipsters who have never been anywhere near a virtual boy who are the ones who shit on it because everyone says that it was shit. This applies to the virtual boy as a whole too
