>Metroid 2 remake announced

>fucking 2
>worst of the 2D Metroids is what Nintendo deems to have priority
>AM2R was C&D'd because of this
>we could have had a new 2D Metroid instead
Sigh... we'll never have a proper follow up to Super Metroid, will we?
>>4057783
odd choice, maybe a response the fan made game.
>>4057783
if its the worst then isnt it the most deserving of a remake. Go back to /v/ seriously
I first played this game probably about 15 years ago, but me and my brother were only able to finish it using console commands and the gem glitch, plus other exploits like exporting a character from the tutorial in Candlekeep. At that time cheats were a novelty (gta III had just come out), so we weren't that inclined to beat the game fair and square.
So this time around I want to finish the game but without any of that shit, I actually want to learn the game mechanics and I want to learn how to build a good character and a good party whose abilities synergize well together.
I know the later dungeons get incredibly hard so any tips or build ideas would be welcome and since I've beat the game before you can't really spoil it for me so spoilers welcome.
I'm leaning towards just a plain old fighter play through, since I think it is the easiest class by far, but I've always wanted to do a mage playthrough, but mage class I always found to be hard as hell especially because of the spell casting limit and the chance to fail to copy spells down when trying to learn them ( not to mention how hard spell scrolls are hard to come by)

Does anyone know where I could find the original DOS version of Wizardry 1, namely the one where the inspect glitch is possible?
Also, Wizardry games thread I guess.
Why would you want that version?
>>4056550
Mainly curiosity, and the fact that I can't find it anywhere is just making me want it more.
>>4056553
Are you certain it's in the "DOS" version and not the Apple II?
Playstation codes question:
I remember ages ago playing Suikoden II. I found a GS/CB/etc code that affected game speed. If I pressed L2, the game speed went up drastically. And when I pressed R2, the game speed went back to normal. Here's the lines of code:
D006211C 0001
800E3574 0001
D006211C 0002
800E3574 FFE9
My guess is these are 2 Joker commands. My question is: since joker commands are universal, are game speed up/normal codes universal as well? Or, does every game have their own version of a speed up/normal code(s)? I'm trying to engineer a way to have this feature as a joker command for any/all PSX games.
IIRC Joker commands aren't universal. Some games share the same because they were developped with the same framework regarding the inputs.
Regarding the speed this is not at all an universal code for sure.

Don't get hit.
Does anyone still use them for your Game Boys? I want one that works for Gen 1 and Gen 3
If I buy a GBA link cable will it work on GB games like Pokemon Red?
Can pokemon red on GBA trade with a Gameboy Color Pokemon Red?
Also any good brands recommended
Yeah, if i remember right you can trade pokemon from gbc to gba and from gba to ds. But i dont think theres a way to trade from ds to 3ds.
Shouldnt be too hard to find a 1st party link cable, if you cant though, just pick up a 3rd party one. They work just as well, be careful though cause some 3rd party cables are flimsy as shit

If I buy a GBA link cable will it work on GB games like Pokemon Red?
Yes. There was even an adaptor to connect the GBA cable to an original Gameboy.
You cannot use a GBA cable to link GB/C games.
You cannot link 3rd gen with 2nd or 1st gen games.
I have a cable that normally works as a GBC cable, but has a small adapter at the end that makes it work with GBA games. Idk what it's called though.

I've searched, in vain, to find traces of the Castlevania 1-3 devs. No one, not even the Japanese, have any info on them.
It might take some people in Japan trying to hunt them down.
I've gone through facebook pages with similar names, but there are simply too many it's a needle in a haystack without any additional clues, and there's no guarantee they'd even be on facebook.
A lot of these game devs in the 80's were kids right out of University, so they were 20-30, which would make them 50-60 now. So they're likely still around and not dead.

Does anyone have any more bizarre 'official' retro depictions of Mario?
Hi /vr/!
I tried asking at /v/ for that but nobody gave me answer, so I figured that "retro games" board might be better place to aska bout classic M&M.
Which M&M should I buy at current GOG sale - 7 or 8? I already own 6. Or both are pretty similar?
Thanks for replies and sorry if thread is in wrong place. If thats the case, please just delete it.
Thanks again.
The cutoff point is 2000 so M&M7 released in 1999 is considered retro but 8 released in 2000 is not.
7 is very similar to 6 and 8 is still close. 3-5 are fairly different and 1 and 2 even moreso.

There's almost always a thread where you can ask these things if you check the catalog.

Wow, that shit is completely useless.
I liked the parallel universes guy better.
Anyone know any other retro games from the 8 or 16 bit era that was written in a compiled language such as C?
For example, I know that Sonic Spinball and Rockman Mega World was written in C, and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of well known homebrew games that were written in the same language as well.
What are some games that you enjoyed at the time or found impressive, but due to the passage of time and advancements in gameplay and graphics, you find upon playing them in this day and age that you do not enjoy the controls in comparison to control schemes that came afterwards, find that the gameplay was more tolerable when there were not games that do its concepts better than it, or that the art style and graphics are no longer visually appealing as the art style cannot stand on its own merits once they no longer have the advantage of being considered cutting edge and are not automatically impressive as a result?
What games did you enjoy at the time but don't like when you come back to them now, or in other wordswhat games aged poorly?
Games don't age, so none.
Why these versions ??
For journalists?
>>4049764
Yes, they are magazine previews.
>>4049764
I have one for Space Channel 5. I believe it was a review copy. Since the spiral is blue, I am assuming only PAL regions got copies like these. (My copy came from Europe as well.)

these look like special silkscreened disks for making up a story and sell super expensive on ebay to collectors who care more about plastic then content
