Growing up, I had what was for us Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3. Then one time a friend of mine came over and told me about Final Fantasy 7 being in development. I was adamant that wasn't possible because there had only bee 3 games so far. We argued until it actually came to blows.

I don't consider Yoshi's Island a main Mario game (even if it was titled SMW2 in the west and "Super Mario: Yossy Island" in Japan). Obviously it's part of the Mario universe and it has a lot of visual cues that reminds of other main Mario games (especially SMB2USA and SMW) but the gameplay is so fundamentally different that I find it hard to compare it to the main titles.
You know, kind of like Wario Land, its title was SML3: Wario Land, has visual elements that reminds of games like SMW and SML2, but it's clearly a spinoff, same with Yoshi's Island for me.

I've also been considering getting a PSP again for the sake of emulation. It can still take memory cards but the lack of a UMD drive for super cheap PSP games is a bummer (and not /vr/ but whatever). Wish I knew more about the GO and emulation but I've never even touched one myself.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on this but I'd be surprised if the thread isn't deleted soon.

a psp was acceptable like 10 years ago.

Get a n3ds for portable emulation. Its signicificantly better than a psp in every way (except ps1 which isnt perfect on psp)

PSPGO is very small and has dualshock 3 support. Theres also a very expensive cradle that lets you charge and video out at the same time. Expanding the storage is expensive though.

The model 2 and model 3 have bigger screen, are more comfortable, and can use micro sd adapters.

I do just that.

1 - Some Pong machine that my brother bought used. It was very generic and all the writings were in german (I'm not from Germany BTW). It was one with all these Pong variants with stylized men for the various sports, and the volume of the bleeps did hurt my ears
2- Commodore 64 - Panther (pretty good)
3- Playstation 1 - Medievil. Bought the console during a summer with my very first wage

But seriously, I liked that aspect. A small-scale version is like a link to the past: You get the 3 pendants and beat agahnim, but then you find out oh wait you're only like 20% done with the game
