What I was working on today:

The Atari 7800 ProSystem has the worst controllers ever devised by a man. They just SUCK. The original Atari 2600 controllers are worlds better. But what's best? Sega Genesis controllers.

A few people may not know this, but Sega Genesis controllers work perfectly with an Atari 2600 and an Atari 7800. Use the B button as your fire button. Those are *so* much better.

The only problem with this method on a 7800 is, the 7800 controllers had two buttons and about half of the games for that system require the use of button 2. Obviously the Sega Genesis controller has 3 buttons, so this should be no problem, right? On the two button games, yes, there is a problem. There are some differences between the way the Sega and 7800 treat that second button, so you have to build a circuit for it to work correctly. Well, here is the solution I made this plug this wire into the 7800, then the Genesis controller into the other side of the wire. The 7404 inverter chip takes care of all of the rest for you, I got the plans online.

Now when playing a 7800 game, Buttons B and C on the controller are working. I can now play Choplifter, Pole Position II, and Commando the way they're supposed to be played. (Choplifter is nearly impossible without button 2).

Awesome work! Love stuff like this. I wonder if its possible to make the 'A' button read as B+C simultaneously.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Took me about 45 minutes to do the first cable because I had to probe each wire to figure out what color wire corresponded to which pin. Now that I know what I'm doing, I can probably make one of these in about 20 minutes and I bought enough supplies to make 10 of them.

Wire: 3 foot 9-pin female to male D-sub from Monoprice item 4880

Chip: 7404 IC from Mouser

Project box: Hammond 1551NBK from Mouser

I bought a Game Gear of of craigslist. Wasn't working, just powered on. I recapped it and tried it again. This was my result. Any idea what I can do? Every game does something similar.

What are some programs that could be used to make retro-inspired games?

I'm aware of RPGMaker, Unity, not trying to do actual Z80

Anything like RPGToolkit? If anyone is aware of that program

I want to implement my own sprites, have a very, very large map (but it will look like an Atari 2600 game) and RPG is or is not necessary.

I understand some very, very basic concepts of programming because of Z80 but I'd like to avoid coding as much as possible

Any suggestions? Thank you

Save. A lot.

If you're outdoors, you should basically always be prone unless you're retreating.

If you're indoors, find the room with no windows and and camp the door.

Hey guys, I want to get into Daggerfall. What is the best way to play this game? Any mods you would recommend on a first playthrough? Does the .zip on Bethesda's website work on Windows 7? Help me out please.

The best way to play the game is to install it, load it into memory, and interact with it. Mods are unnecessary. DOS games do not natively run in non-DOS operating systems. All of these questions are answerable with 30 seconds in any search engine. There is in fact an entire FAQ page for this which will show up immediately upon doing so. You spent more time finding that screenshot than it takes to learn this information on your own.
>>
>>4235381
the release on bethesda's website comes with full instructions how to set it up with dosbox.

also this:

>You spent more time finding that screenshot than it takes to learn this information on your own.
the pic is a semi-rare prerelease screenshot. while it's easy to find if you know where to look, it certainly doesn't show up on google image search when you google daggerfall.

As a fellow newfag, I have to recommend this anon's advice:
>The best way to play the game is to install it, load it into memory, and interact with it. Mods are unnecessary.

Also, the installer that you can find on UESP does all the DosBox-to-Windows work for you during the install leaving you with a neat little icon on your desktop to double-click.

It also includes bugfixes. The game is complex and challenging enough without mods, but god damn do you need the bug fixes.

I thought about adding a game to my Retropie library and I normally don't have any trouble with this, but this one has me stumped.
I'm trying to play a MAME arcade game and none of the emulators seem to work for it on Rpi3. I can try to start it but it immediately backs out into the previous menu. Anybody know what Retropie emulator I need to play this?

You can replace 3 games from the official lineup
29 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
The only two games that I would have replaced would be Kirby's Dream Course and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts.

I would replace those two titles with:

Chrono Trigger

and

a tweaked version of Tetris Attack (Panel de Pon is on the Super Famicom Mini and the only reason we never got Tetris Attack re- released is due to the Tetris name in the title. They should either re- branded the game as Yoshi's Puzzle League or translate Panel de Pon)

or if they could not get a version of Tetris Attack on there

Wario's Woods (perhaps Nintendo's most underrated and overlooked puzzle games)

No other games nees to be replaced. The selection is pretty much perfect otherwise.
>>
Parodius, Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders for Kirby's Dream Course, Secret of Mana and FFIV (I'm not big on RPGs).

Japan was doing it in the 90s

basically says

Virgin PCE: loves anime, anime girls, wears velcro shoes, talks about Gundam, conservative, penis smells bad

Chad MegaDrive: bad boy, techno music, hygienic penis, Apple Cap, etc

MTG is more fun as /tg/ or Magic Online. LackeyCCG is pretty old and a good experience but I don't think it's old enough to be /vr/ material.
>>
This is the one where you can tap your opponent's lands for them during their upkeep step, causing mana burn and effectively locking them to single mana cost spells.

Pretty fun otherwise, though.

Any front mission fans here? Can I just start with the third game?
First game was really slow and kicked my ass and the second game looks great but the translation is a mess
45 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
still haven't played FM2 with the patch cause of all the broken videos. The project leader LegaiaRules had the translated vids with working audio on his channel but the dick nuked his channel and disappeared.

Not to mention all the untranslated bits outside of the missions, but I dont know how jarring the experience is while playing.

Loved FM3 and that fan-translation for FM5 was a lot of better than the the afterthought that was the subbing project for 2.
>>
1 is kinda shit
2 is the best in the series and one of the best tactics games ever made
Don't be intimidated by the sloppy patch, it's worth the trouble
>>
>>4234254
This is really disappointing because there is a text file that has the untranslated text with the patch file but the cutscenes aren't translated and the videos are gone
