THEY'LL BURY YOU IN A LUNCH BOX
Lllllaaadada!
NO! DON'T SHOOT! NO!
So I want to start Wizardry 6 right now. Is there any tips you guys can give me so I don't get too much fucked? I want to use the same party untill Wizardry 8, so I want optmize some stuff.
Also, I already played Wizardry from 1 to 5, but this one looks a lot more complex, so I'm a bit overwhelmed.
The main differences:
-class changing is useful. Your attributes don't drop to the bottom and your abilities are often more dependent on your skills.
-you can save anywhere but there is no safe heaven.
-you can't replace party members. You're stuck with what you start with. In particular your ways to revive are very limited for parts of the game so you'll probably want to reload instead of carrying around corpses.
The standard tip for beginners is to get a bard. They start with a lute that can cast sleep for free which makes the early encounters more bearable.
Carrying capacity is dependent on your starting strength so don't skimp on it. Spellpoint regeneration is also dependent on your beginning choices but less critical.

I like it, the music is nice and the game is so bad it's good. Old Polish jank.
I want to try the 'HardType' patch of this but I can't get it to work. Can anyone upload the iso?
Is it even any good? Is Castlemania dead?

you need
1. vanilla SotN NTSC-U iso
2. the HardType .ppf (playstation patch file)
http://www.insanedifficulty.com/board/index.php?/files/file/80-castlevania-symphony-of-the-night-hardtype/
3. ppf-o-matic (a program for using .ppfs)

hope this helps

I had problems getting it to work too. It turns out it's a bit of a sloppy/lazy hack and they didn't do it properly. They only hacked the game data, but didn't touch the error correcting data. So it won't work on Mednafen.
After patching the game normally, you need an additional program. Run ECCregen and it will patch the ECC data. After that it'll work.

>won't work on Mednafen.
Really? It works on my PSOne :)

There are a few different iso's out there. One of them will work, most won't. There's probably an MD5 hash or something to verify which is the right copy.
The copy I used was called, when i downloaded it:
Castlevania.Symphony.Of.The.Night.NTSC.US.cue/bin

He broke 6000 guitars...
What went right?
Definitely not you bringing anything interesting to this board
What is /vr/'s opinion on pic related? When I was a kid I played it at my cousin's house and loved it, but I got stuck on level 10 (the fire maze). I tried it recently but on a level between 15-20 I decided it was too tedious to continue (don't remember specifically why).

I'd rather play Oxyd (or the freeware version Enigma)

I loved this game as a tween, but I never beat it. The farthest I ever got was Cityblock.
Chip's Challenge 2 is good too. And it's retro!
Is this the best Metronicvania?

Trying to extract the music from Jumping Flash for PS1, stored as .str files. Tried a lot of programs like PSound, PSmplay, PsxMC, but none of them will read the .str files correctly. Not a lot of info online about the Jumping Flash files online, anyone else know?

You can get everything you want with jpsxdec.

That just opens a bunch of less than a second fragments
Just finished Commander Keen Episode 1.
Maze level with three ray guns at beginning was absolutely insidious.
Skipped the penultimate level because of the infuriating fire pit at the end.
Is this difficulty the joy of retro gaming?
