Any decent SCART to HDMI scalers on a budget?
I can handle a little lag and maybe not the best picture quality, but a jump up from composite on a HDTV would be nice.
S-Video to HDMI would also be an option, if the price is good.

I got this in the mail today. I won this game, instruction manual, map and box in an auction for €61. I see they usually go for €150-160. The battery still works.

I feel I made an incredible great purchase. I've never owned this game (only the NES Classics version on GBA) and I've never really played it. And no, I'm not a reseller, I'll keep this forever. I'm very excited to finally play this game for real.

>owned port
>never really played it
>spent 61 eurodollerydoos on a CIB copy of original
I'm not understanding this logic.
>>
>>4111685
I did not like the port because it is not in its native aspect ratio. Also, I'm not a big fan of holding a small GBA right in my face when I can sit on my couch and play the game the way it was meant to be played on TV.
>>
>>4111706
But you hadn't played it in it's native aspect ratio

If the presentation is stopping you from enjoying the game, it sounds like you might not like the game itself.

This may be a stupid question but I recently discovered Waku Waku 7 and I really love it.
But there was something that caught my attention. In the vid you can see Slash fighting Fernandez and I want to know how they did the flashing color effects. Like Fernandez' outline and Slash's sword. I found their sprites on the snk wiki but is it really just a bunch of sprites with different colors or is it some fx going on here?
If it's some effect I would like to know the technical term so I can look up more about it as atm I'm not too familiar with computer graphics jargon.

> I found their sprites on the snk wiki but is it really just a bunch of sprites with different colors or is it some fx going on here?

Nah, it's just they wanted to keep the effect in the "rip" most likely. The actual in-game effect is palete shifting, one of the oldest tricks there is:

Basically, games gave each graphic resource a limited color palette with a certain number of "entries" (usually way more restrictive for sprites) and while the number of entries was limited, each one could represent any color from a large master palette while still being applied to the same part of the image. Therefore, you could create several versions of the same image using very inexpensive numerical data instead of a full blown new bitmap (like with enemy variants in classic jRPG's) or create a function that would modify the color cyclically on the fly to create cool effects like halos, waterfalls, metallic reflections, etc.

It's a neat technique, and it's mostly gone in modern game development because most engines have no color limitations at all and just use true color bitmaps

Either the PS2 version or N64. The PS version is okay, despite the graphics being downgraded, but it has a playable 2D level.

I will start with one that will be very difficult to top. Especially the main theme.

I bought the game from the bargain bin just for the music. Despite the gameplay being meh, the music alone made it better. I think it uses the Genesis sound chips well, which very few can do.

2 things...

1. I always loved Accolade games for Genesis

2. Genesis did terrible voices but fantastic chiptunes. Why?

If Dreamcast mini was a thing, like the NES and upcoming SNES mini, what games would you put on it?

I'll start with a few I'd want to see:
Power Stone
Soul Calibur
Crazy Taxi
Jet Grind Radio
Daytona
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2
Resident Evil Code Veronica

So what would you add vr?

What is the best port of OutRun? I tried the Genesis version but it's dreadful
32 posts and 7 images submitted.

Just emulate it through MAME. It also got mostly arcade-perfect ports for the Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2 and 3DS. As a last resort, the GBA version.
>>
>>4108981

Sega Ages on Saturn. The Genesis port isn't terrible though. Check out Turbo OutRun and OutRunners if you want to see what a bad port looks like.
