How can you not love him?
It's an injustice that we got a Street Fighter The Movie game, but not a Super Mario Kino game.

This. Nintendo would shut it down in a heartbeat but I'd love to see a fan made run n gun based on this movie.
Favorite:
>Actraiser
It sped up the time in the Sim mode which is a big improvement. It moved some of the music around, which I'm okay with. It also changed the name of the villain and hero, from "Satan" and "God" to "Tanzra" and "The Master". This was probably censorship based, but having unique name for the Demon is better than generic Satan. JP cover art is way better than USA.
Least favorite:
>Kunio-Nekkestu series
Half the games were never localized, and the ones that were, all had separate names. Thus the series could never gain any traction in the West as they were all unrelated games. River City Ransom, Super Dodge Ball, Renegade were early titles. River City Ransom moved the location from Tokyo high schools, with teenage delinquents to the American city of "River City", and changed the outfits fo the cast from stylish school uniforms to jeans and T-shirt. I could live with them transporting the story to America IF they had all the same series name. Character also have different names in each. This means that all future attempts to revive the series are stuck with "River City" as the name as that's the most famous incarnation of it.

>Actraiser
You completely omitted how they toned down enemy damage CONSIDERABLY and made spikes that used to be one hit deaths in the Japanese version just normal hazards. And no, playing in professional mode does not restore these changes.
>>4113243
Soul Blader became Soul Blazer. I get this change since to the Japanese "Blader" is meant to refer to a guy with a blade, but it sounds to an English speaker more like a guy on roller blades. Also one of the rarer cases where the Western box art is way better looking .
Grill at the end had her anime art style face changed to a more Westernized style.

Honestly, Ryu in Street Fighter II Turbo is the most difficult boss I have ever encountered.
It makes Ghosts 'n Goblins a walk in the park for me.
In fact I can beat Ghosts 'n Goblins but I gave up on Ryu.
he just spams hadouken. if I block it, it eats away my life. if I jump he uppercuts me or jump kicks as well (which for some reason always results in him hitting me, never the other way around).
I just can't. Even when I'm close he goes into overdrive and fucks me nevertheless.
fuck Ryu and fuck Street Fighter II Turbo
Stop playing the CPU in fighting games.

tank controls were never good
Used to despise them, then I played TRAG, Vampire Hunter D, Dino Crisis 2, Soul of the Samurai, now I love them.
What kind of submarine games have tank controls?
Maybe Silent Hunter?

64 or Hero? Whoever hid away the golden cards in 64 needs to serve lifetime in jail for crimes against humanity. If whoever did it is already dead then have the rest of their bloodline carry the sentence, because SOMEONE needs to be severely punished for this bullshit
Still can't believe I found all 100 cards without a guide. This will be my greatest achievement in life.
Wouldn't it make more sense to compare 64 to second attack? Hero was made by another team.
This game is the true heir to Adventures of Lolo, and nobody knows about it despite it being far superior. It was released in Japan only for SNES and GBC, but there is a translation patch out there (and the only important text is in the main menu).
Basically it is sokoban plus Lolo-esque enemies and an incredibly creative game mechanic that leads to intricate tricks. You can blow bubbles of three different sizes (amazing right) . Each size takes a different amount of time to tick down and pop, and when a bubble pops it pushes adjacent bubbles/blocks one tile away. There are 3 difficulties, totaling 100 levels.
This game is obscure enough as is, but is also VERY VERY difficult once you get to the master levels, and to succeed you have to push the game mechanics to their limits. I have never played a puzzle game that made me so thoroughly master the mechanics of every tile, enemy, and bubble trick. For an example of a late-game level solution, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCgeuGB9Nzk
The levels in the two different versions are nearly identical, but there are a few important distinctions between them. The SNES version has the advantage that you can view the entire level on screen without scrolling, but the GBC version is superior imo thanks to actual saves instead of a password system, level selection screen, and HIDDEN 20 LEVELS.
Let me emphasize that: there are 20 extra hidden levels in the GBC version that I don't think ANYONE (other than the devs) knows about... I played through the GBC version a while back, and after completing the 3 story modes a 4th difficulty was unlocked in Free Play mode with 20 additional extra-hard levels that I have yet to complete. I can find no mention of these levels online. Not to mention the difficulty level was untranslated by the patch I used, indicating that the translator was also unaware of these levels.
Anyways, this thread can be about this hidden gem, or about action puzzlers in general.
Here is some more info on the game: https://snescentral.com/article.php?id=0990
Apparently there was a prototype of the SNES version for Europe, but it was never released.

My niece was playing that recently on her PS2 (she had a pirate SNES emulator disk.)
This is exactly the sort of game I've been looking for to play on the go
so i just picked up a dreamcast (specifically pic related) for $70
my two questions are
a) did i get scammed?
b) what are some must have games that are ridiculously expensive yet?
>>4112681
Without any games? Yes you did.
>>4112691
what would have been a good price for one. It had a fresh clock battery, tested, black controller, and all the cables. Bought it from my local game shop so i dont mind paying a little more to help the store, but what should i have paid for it
>>4112694
Like 40 is the standard, but I understand the wanting to help the shop. Did you get a VMU?

Why do my Saturn and PS1 modchips almost never work? Is it the CDs? I've tried tons of brands and burned discs at different speeds but at the end of the day there's like a 25% chance of the game actually booting
Low quality CD-Rs, laser out of whack/in need of adjustment to actually properly read the CD-Rs, or quite possible in the case of the Saturn, bad rips?

Many potential reasons with a single root cause.

What Japanese games that were never brought over to the West does /vr/ recommend? I'm currently studying the language and feel comfortable enough to finally get around to playing some.

Can't recommend Mizzurna Falls enough, off the charts amazing game, the script has been translated but no one knows when it's gonna get inserted since the hacker is a hack who juggles multiple projects at once with zero communication.
If you want something solid to play and practice your Jp, look no further.
All of them as our superior Japanese overlords cannot do wrong.

Saturn and arcade hardware. I kick myself for not buying a Saturn in the 90s.
Who's looking forward to seeing this prick get fucked up in this exact scene but with modern day graphics?
>>4111313
/vr/ told me re2 is shit so I don't care desu. Too linear, too much ammo, too easy bosses, thus not a real survivor horror game, just a crappy action game but with bad gameplay. Not looking forward to re2.
