Post stupid shit your fucking friends did back in the day.

>Dude, I have [game].
>You do?! Holy shit, I'll be right there.
>Go to friend's house.
>Sweet game. Can I have a turn?
>Oh, I only brought you over to watch me play this game, but I'll let you think you can play. I'll get 5 turns, then you get 3, and then tomor--
>Fuck you, I'm going home.

One time when I was a kid I buried a copy of Wolverine Adamantium Rage in a playground because I thought it would make some kid's day if they found it like hidden treasure and got to play a free game.

Zelda 64 was kind of fun when I was a kid, but I booted it up recently with a new game and quit before Kakariko Village. Way too much exposition in that game. If you have that much dialogue, at least use it to develop characters with interesting motives. You could argue that it's a game for kids, but Pixar develops for children too and create works that everyone can appreciate.

Ocarina has too much exposition without any real payoff for it. Characters end up repeating themselves and cutscenes are unskippable.

Can somebody explain to me in simple words how they were able to get videogames on little microchip strips in the 80s?

A cartridge in it's most basic form is just a convenient way to plug a ROM chip into the CPU of a console.

ROM is very simple. You give ROM a number called an "address", and it returns a number that is the "data" at that address.

Because we are working with digital electronics, these numbers are specified as binary numbers. For old ROM chips found in carts, the bits for both the address and data numbers have a direct mapping to the pins on the ROM.

For example, let's say we have a ROM that can take a 15-bit address and returns 8-bit data, for a total of 2^15-1 bytes of memory. In that case, there are literally 15 address pins on the ROM chip labeled A0-A14 and 8 data pins labeled D0-D7. The pins are directly connected to the contacts on the cartridge.

Everything gets reduced down to a number on a computer, both data and code alike. Loosely speaking, a computer is designed to execute instructions by keeping track of the address of the instruction to execute (called the "program counter" or PC), fetching the number at that address, interpreting the number as an instruction, executing that instruction, incrementing the PC, and doing it all over again.

In this way a game can be stored on a ROM, which a console can read to execute code and get data.

there might be a chip-select pin or output-enable pin on a ROM chip too, but those are minor details.

make sense?

I've been looking at this series and wondered what people considered the best game in it.
There are a bunch of them on GOG and I was wondering which one I should get.

Also, favourite moments with these games.

Anyone?
>>
They are one of those series that if you do like the gameplay, the only way to know is to buy every single one. I own Army Men 3D and Army Men: Team Assault World War. I think that both are mediocre, but Id love to find one that gives the definitive experience. My plan was to eventually get them all and then choose for myself. Considering they are so cheap, i dunno.
>>
My favorite is 3:Toys in Space. Fun series overall, I really like the multiplayer mode with bots. Army Men Sarges Heroes 1 & 2 are great games but not available on PC I think.

What happens if you miss boxes in a level?

Also what do you think of the Crash remaster trilogy?

There is some kind of problem with the last cut scene where helicopter drops the Rocket Launcher,it starts 10 seconds before the countdown ends.
Countdown ends before the cut scene is over.

Google turns up nothing, how to fix this since I cant even finish the game.

sonic is good but it's not an answer to smw at all. smw is about exploration and has a large overworld, feels more like a grand adventure. sonic is more an answer to super mario bros.

Looking for a big, epic, non-rpg action adventure game on retro consoles. Doesn't even necessarily have to be a Zelda-like, just a big engrossing action adventure game. Help pls

Surely modern day remakes of old favourites can only be a good thing? Did Vicarious Visions do it properly?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
The new Crash does seem pretty good but poorly done remakes cheapen the legacy of good games q.v. many modern films that completely ruin formerly good things.
>>
I don't see the point, the originals looked and played great.
>>
>>4118589
>Same levels
>Same gameplay
What's the point again. Remakes are only good when they add something significant to the original.

Most games didn't use the keyboard though, they used the shitty joystick that only had one button, which meant you had to jump by pressing "up".
