Let's pay homage to one of the grandaddies of the STG genre: Xevious.
This game seems to have a lukewarm reception with western players, but it's a classic in Japan.
What about you? Do you like Xevious?

I prefer Argus but yeah I like it. I like those simple old no-frills shmups

Gets redundant really fast but it not offensive or anything. Just a real quaint game that doesn't have a lot to talk about
>>
I like the rank system it has so the game can start throwing everything at you fairly quickly.

What are your thoughts on the King's Field games? I have been wanting to play one recently. It seems very few people have even played any of the games though.

I like them. They aren't perfect but I can't think of a single thing I'd change.

Just remember that the King's Field 2 you have pictured there is actually King's Field 3. If you want to get started from the first game, you have to download KF1, which has been translated into English already.
>>
>>4121676
Wait what? So is this as confusing as Final Fantasy before VII? Which would you say is the best one? I know that the fourth game isn't retro but that one might be the one I want to play most actually.
>>
>>4121684
I've never played the first one, but King's Field II (the first one in the US) is considered the best and is where I started. If you like King's Field also check out Shadow Tower, it's basically a continuation/evolution of the series by the same devs.

Am I doing something wrong here or are the fucking Cultists from Blood way too competent for the average FPS mooks? They have insane reaction times on Lightly Broiled.

General Blood thread, I guess?
I just finished playing through Episode 1 with BloodGDX and I'm already halfway through Episode 2. This game is really fucking good once it starts giving you enough ammunition to really play around. The first few levels of the first Episode you kinda have to scrounge all you can get or else you'll run out. Episode 2 is much more generous so far, even early on.

Haven't played much blood but my duke experience is similar. The pig cops are just fuckers. I think the game was just a product of being made by hardcore doomers that decided doom was too easy.
>>
>>4121169
>The pig cops are just fuckers
Uh, what? Pigcops have a huge wind-up time compared to Blood cultists and you can dance around them with relative ease. They don't even do that much damage unless they surprise you at close range. In Blood they get more accurate AND fire faster AND do more damage AND take more hits as you increase the difficulty.

>>4121110
It takes a while to get the twitch rhythm right. There are also patterns you can exploit, like how they come to investigate when you pop out around a corner, and how you can reliably stun them for a couple seconds with a bullet while you move closer or shoot a different enemy. Aside from that it's reflexes, angles, covers, and being really quick/accurate with your dynamite throws. To be really good at Blood you need to be able to switch to dynamite and throw it accurately almost like you have a modern quick-grenade key.

What's the first game you ever remember playing or at least the first game you remember seeing that maybe inspired you to pick up and play?

Let's talk about getting one credit clears in retro vidya. Any projects you guys working on at the moment?

I finally got a 1CC on E-Swat just a few minutes ago. The game is indeed easier than a lot of arcade games, but I just could not get it going.

I'm also working on Final Fight and The Punisher. In Final Fight, the farthest I've gotten on one credit was stage 5. It's rough, but I think with enough practice, I will nail it soon.

I cleared Black Tiger the other day which was grand. I'm not 100% consistent on it though.

I have taken up Gate of Doom but it is very difficult, I don;t know if I'll manage it. I cannot get past stage 3 and struggle badly on the boss of stage 2.
>>

Black Tiger is something else I'm working on, albeit on and off. Stage 4 and 5 are where I start to have trouble. Luckily, you can go pretty far in BT by memorization, so I know I can get it eventually.

wtf? the windows on the EPROMs are visible. you erase bits on EPROMs with UV light, and the sun is a good source of UV.

This shit looks Nigerian-prince-tier levels of scammy.

I can sell you my shitty EPROM cart for 5000 gil if you want one that bad. I'll even download a copy of a game that I did a quick graphics hack and text hack on to make it a "beta" version if you want. christ.

What do you think of THPS2 /vr/? I know it tends to be highly rated but I never see it talked about here.

Favourite skater? Favourite level? My choices have to be Geoff Rowley, seeing as he's from my city which amazed me when I was young, and a toss up between School 2 and Skate Heaven.

I literally dropped out of high school to play THPS1 with my best friend all day (and got in trouble/put on probation after a couple months). Once the demo for THPS2 came out it almost happened to me again.

Would the Dreamcast have survived if it had a DVD drive and you couldn't pirate games on day one?

>>
>you couldn't pirate games on day one?
The Dreamcast sold more software in its short life than the XBox one did in the same time. When the DC came out it was still very expensive to burn CDs/DVDs. Piracy in actuality wasn't that big of a problem.
>Would the Dreamcast have survived if it had a DVD drive
It would had been the cheapest non shit player out there and the fact that it had VGA out too would had been another selling point. I'd imagine SEGA wouldn't be able to keep them on the shelf.
